Characterizing entanglement by momentum-jump in the frustrated Heisenberg ring at quantum phase transition
We study the pairwise concurrences, a measure of entanglement, of the ground
states for the frustrated Heisenberg ring to explore the relation between
entanglement and quantum phase transition associated with the momentum jump.
The groundstate concurrences between any two sites are obtained analytically
and numerically. It shows that the summation of all possible pairwise
concurrences is an appropriate candidate to depict the phase transition. We
also investigate the role that the momentum takes in the jump of concurrence at
the critical points. We find that an abrupt momentum change rusults in the
maximal concurrence difference of two degenerate ground states.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Correlational Analysis of Sarcopenia and Multimorbidity Among Older Inpatients
BACKGROUND: Sarcopenia and multimorbidity are common in older adults, and most of the available clinical studies have focused on the relationship between specialist disorders and sarcopenia, whereas fewer studies have been conducted on the relationship between sarcopenia and multimorbidity. We therefore wished to explore the relationship between the two.
METHODS: The study subjects were older patients (aged ≥ 65 years) who were hospitalized at the Department of Geriatrics of the First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between March 2016 and September 2021. Their medical records were collected. Based on the diagnostic criteria of the Asian Sarcopenia Working Group in 2019, the relationship between sarcopenia and multimorbidity was elucidated.
RESULTS: 1.A total of 651 older patients aged 65 years and above with 2 or more chronic diseases were investigated in this study, 46.4% were suffering from sarcopenia. 2. Analysis of the relationship between the number of chronic diseases and sarcopenia yielded that the risk of sarcopenia with 4-5 chronic diseases was 1.80 times higher than the risk of 2-3 chronic diseases (OR 1.80, 95%CI 0.29-2.50), and the risk of sarcopenia with ≥ 6 chronic diseases was 5.11 times higher than the risk of 2-3 chronic diseases (OR 5.11, 95% CI 2.97-9.08), which remained statistically significant, after adjusting for relevant factors. 3. The Charlson comorbidity index was associated with skeletal muscle mass index, handgrip strength, and 6-meter walking speed, with scores reaching 5 and above suggesting the possibility of sarcopenia. 4. After adjusting for some covariates among 14 common chronic diseases in older adults, diabetes (OR 3.20, 95% CI 2.01-5.09), cerebrovascular diseases (OR 2.07, 95% CI 1.33-3.22), bone and joint diseases (OR 2.04, 95% CI 1.32-3.14), and malignant tumors (OR 2.65, 95% CI 1.17-6.55) were among those that still a risk factor for the development of sarcopenia.
CONCLUSION: In the hospitalized older adults, the more chronic diseases they have, the higher the prevalence of sarcopenia. When the CCI is 5, attention needs to be paid to the occurrence of sarcopenia in hospitalized older adults
Exponentially Complex Quantum Many-Body Simulation via Scalable Deep Learning Method
For decades, people are developing efficient numerical methods for solving
the challenging quantum many-body problem, whose Hilbert space grows
exponentially with the size of the problem. However, this journey is far from
over, as previous methods all have serious limitations. The recently developed
deep learning methods provide a very promising new route to solve the
long-standing quantum many-body problems. We report that a deep learning based
simulation protocol can achieve the solution with state-of-the-art precision in
the Hilbert space as large as for spin system and for
fermion system , using a HPC-AI hybrid framework on the new Sunway
supercomputer. With highly scalability up to 40 million heterogeneous cores,
our applications have measured 94% weak scaling efficiency and 72% strong
scaling efficiency. The accomplishment of this work opens the door to simulate
spin models and Fermion models on unprecedented lattice size with extreme high
precision.Comment: Massive ground state optimizations of CNN-based wave-functions for

Characterization and prediction of permanent deformation properties of unbound granular materials for Pavement ME Design
The objective of this study is to characterize and predict the permanent deformation properties of unbound granular materials (UGMs) for Pavement ME Design. First, laboratory repeated load triaxial (RLT) tests are conducted on the UGMs from 11 quarries in Texas to measure the permanent strain curves. The shakedown theory is applied to evaluate the permanent deformation behavior of the selected UGMs. It is found that using Werkmeister's criteria to define the shakedown range boundaries is not suitable for the selected UGMs. Under this circumstance, new criteria are proposed to redefine the shakedown range boundaries for the flexible base materials in Texas. The new criteria are consistent with the current Texas flexible base specification in terms of aggregate classification. Second, the mechanistic-empirical design guide (MEPDG) model is used to determine the permanent deformation properties of the selected UGMs on the basis of the measured permanent strain curves. The determined permanent deformation properties are assigned as target values for the development of permanent deformation prediction models. Third, a series of performance-related base course properties are used to comprehensively characterize the UGMs, which include the dry density, moisture content, aggregate gradation, morphological properties, percent fines content, and methylene blue value. These performance-related base course properties are assigned as the inputs of the permanent deformation prediction models. Fourth, a multiple regression analysis is conducted to develop the prediction models for permanent deformation properties using these performance-related properties. The developed models are capable of accurately predicting the permanent deformation properties of UGMs. Compared to other prediction models (e.g., simple indicators-based models and Pavement ME Design models), the developed models have the highest prediction accuracy. It is also found that the Pavement ME model-predicted permanent strains are much lower than those measured from the RLT tests. This demonstrates that the current Pavement ME Design software substantially underestimates the rutting that occurs in base course. Finally, the developed prediction models are validated by comparing the predicted and measured permanent strains of other four base materials. The obtained R-squared value of 0.81 indicates that the developed models have a desirable accuracy in the prediction of permanent deformation properties of UGMs
Twofold Structured Features-Based Siamese Network for Infrared Target Tracking
Nowadays, infrared target tracking has been a critical technology in the
field of computer vision and has many applications, such as motion analysis,
pedestrian surveillance, intelligent detection, and so forth. Unfortunately,
due to the lack of color, texture and other detailed information, tracking
drift often occurs when the tracker encounters infrared targets that vary in
size or shape. To address this issue, we present a twofold structured
features-based Siamese network for infrared target tracking. First of all, in
order to improve the discriminative capacity for infrared targets, a novel
feature fusion network is proposed to fuse both shallow spatial information and
deep semantic information into the extracted features in a comprehensive
manner. Then, a multi-template update module based on template update mechanism
is designed to effectively deal with interferences from target appearance
changes which are prone to cause early tracking failures. Finally, both
qualitative and quantitative experiments are carried out on VOT-TIR 2016
dataset, which demonstrates that our method achieves the balance of promising
tracking performance and real-time tracking speed against other out-of-the-art
trackers.Comment: 13 pages,9 figures,references adde
Variations in photoprotective potential along gradients of leaf development and plant succession in subtropical forests under contrasting irradiances
The successful development of photosynthetic organs is the basis of plant growth and community development. To reveal photo-acclimation to high irradiance in tree species during the course of leaf development and plant succession of subtropical forests, photosynthetic efficiency and photoprotective compounds were analyzed in young and mature leaves of three mid-successional tree species (Castanopsis fissa, Castanopsis chinensis and Schima superba) and three late-successional tree species (Machilus chinensis, Cryptocarya chinensis and Cryptocarya concinna), grown in 100% full sunlight (FL) or 30% of FL (low light, LL). Young leaves of the two species groups exhibited lower chlorophyll (Chl) content, Rubisco content, net photosynthetic rate (Pn), carboxylation efficiency (CE), effective photochemical yield (ΦPSII), photorespiratory electron flow (JO), but higher dark respiration (Rd), and ratios of carotenoids/chlorophylls (Car/Chl), anthocyanins/chlorophylls (Anth/Chl), flavonoids/chlorophylls (Flav/Chl), phenols/chlorophylls (Phen/Chl) and total antioxidant capacity/chlorophylls (TAC/Chl) than those of mature leaves, regardless of growth irradiance. Young leaves of both species groups demonstrated a higher flexibility of Anth/Chl, Flav/Chl, Phen/Chl and TAC/Chl in response to different light conditions than mature leaves. Flav/Chl in young leaves of late-successional group was remarkably higher than that of mid-successional group under the same light conditions. There was a negative correlation between antioxidant-dependent photoprotective potential and photosynthetic efficiency in young and mature leaves of the six tree species grown under either FL or LL. Our results explain partial mechanisms that lie behind the replacement of communities in subtropical forests: highly integrated photoprotective potential allows young leaves of shade-tolerant late-successional species to develop smoothly into mature organs under high irradiance. This work was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation

Factors influencing cognitive function in patients with Huntington's disease from China: A cross-sectional clinical study.
BACKGROUND AND AIM
Huntington's disease (HD) is an autosomal dominant inherited neurodegenerative disorder caused by CAG repeats expansion. Cognitive decline contributes to the loss of daily activity in manifest HD. We aimed to examine the cognition status in a Chinese HD cohort and explore factors influencing the diverse cognitive domains.
METHODS
A total of 205 participants were recruited in the study with the assessment by neuropsychological batteries, including the mini-mental state examination (MMSE), Stroop test, symbol digit modalities test (SDMT), trail making test (TMT), verbal fluency test (VFT), and Hopkins verbal learning test-revised, as well as motor and psychiatric assessment. Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression models were applied to investigate the correlation.
RESULTS
Only 41.46% of patients had normal global function first come to our center. There was a significantly difference in MMSE, Stroop test, SDMT, TMT, and VFT across each stage of HD patients (p < .05). Apathy of PBA-s was correlated to MMSE, animal VFT and Stroop-interference tests performance. Severity of motor symptoms, functional capacity, age, and age of motor symptom onset were correlated to all neuropsychological scores, whereas education attainment and diagnostic delay were correlated to most neuropsychological scores except TMT. Severity of motor symptoms, functional capacity, and education attainment showed independent predicting effect (p < .05) in diverse cognitive domains.
CONCLUSION
Cognitive impairment was very common in Chinese HD patients at the first visit and worse in the patients in advanced phase. The severity of motor symptoms and functional capacity were correlated to the diverse cognitive domains
Abnormal expression of miRNA-122 in cerebral infarction and related mechanism of regulating vascular endothelial cell proliferation and apoptosis by targeting CCNG1
Objective: To analyze the value of serum miRNA-122 expression in the diagnosis, severity, and prognosis of Acute Cerebral Infarction (ACI) and the correlation mechanism of serum miRNA-122 on the proliferation and apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells in ACI.
Method: A total of 60 patients with ACI who were admitted to the emergency department of the Taizhou People's Hospital from January 1, 2019, to December 30, 2019, and 30 healthy controls during the same period were selected. General clinical data of all patients at admission were collected. Including age, sex, medical history, and inflammatory factors (C-Reactive Protein [CRP], Interleukin-6 [IL-6], Procalcitonin [PCT], Neutrophil Gelatinase-Associated Lipid carrier protein [NGAL]). The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score at admission and short-term prognosis (the Modified Rankin Score [mRS]) score at 3 months after onset were recorded. The expression level of miRNA-122 in the serum of patients with ACI and normal controls was detected by reverse-transcription quantitative Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-QPCR), and the correlation between the expression level of miRNA-122 in the serum of patients with ACI and the level of inflammatory factors, NIHSS and mRS scores were analyzed. The expression levels of miRNA-122 in the serum of patients with ACI, normal people, and Human Umbilical cord Endothelial Cells (HUVECs) cultured in a blank control group were detected by RT-QPCR and statistically analyzed. MTT and flow cytometry was used to compare the proliferation and apoptosis of vascular endothelial cells in the miRNA-122 mimics and inhibitors transfection groups and the corresponding negative control group. The mRNA and protein levels of apoptosis-related factors Bax, Bcl-2, Caspase-3, and angiogenesis-related proteins Hes1, Notch1, Vascular Endothelial Growth Factors (VEGF), and CCNG1 were detected by RT-QPCR and Western blot. Bioinformatics methods predicted CCNG1 to be the target of miRNA-122, and the direct targeting relationship between CCNG1 and miRNA-122 was verified by a dual-luciferase reporting assay.
Result: Serum miRNA-122 expression in patients with ACI was significantly higher than that in healthy controls, with an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.929, 95% Confidence Interval of 0.875‒0.983, and an optimal cut-off value of 1.397. The expression levels of CRP, IL-6, and NGAL in patients with ACI were higher than those in healthy control groups, p < 0.05; miRNA-122 was positively correlated with CPR, IL-6, NIHSS score, and mRS score. At 48h and 72h, the proliferation rate of HUVECs cells in the miRNA-122 mimics group decreased and the apoptosis rate increased. Cell proliferation rate increased, and apoptosis rate decreased significantly in the groups transfected with miRNA-122 inhibitors. The mRNA and protein levels of pro-apoptotic factors Bax and caspase-3 were significantly increased in the miRNA-122 mimics transfection group, while those of anti-apoptotic factor Bcl-2 were significantly decreased compared to those of the control group. The expression of Bax and Caspase-3 decreased, and the expression of anti-apoptotic factor Bcl-2 increased in the transfected miRNA-122 inhibitors group. mRNA expression levels of Hes1, Notch1, VEGF, and CCNG1 in the miRNA-122 mimic transfected group were significantly decreased, while mRNA expression levels in the miRNA-122 inhibitors transfected group were significantly increased. Bioinformatics showed that there was a miRNA-122 binding site in the 3′UTR region of CCNG1, and dual luciferase assay confirmed that CCNG1 was the target of miRNA-122.
Conclusion: Serum miRNA-122 increased significantly after ACI, which may be a diagnostic marker of ACI. miRNA-122 may be involved in the pathological process of ACI and is related to the degree of neurological impairment and short-term prognosis in patients with ACI. miRNA-122 may play a regulatory role in ACI by inhibiting cell proliferation, increasing apoptosis, and inhibiting vascular endothelial cell regeneration through the CCNG1 channel.
ATP-Responsive and Near-Infrared-Emissive Nanocarriers for Anticancer Drug Delivery and Real-Time Imaging
Stimuli-responsive and imaging-guided drug delivery systems hold vast promise for enhancement of therapeutic efficacy. Here we report an adenosine-5'-triphosphate (ATP)-responsive and near-infrared (NIR)-emissive conjugated polymer-based nanocarrier for the controlled release of anticancer drugs and real-time imaging. We demonstrate that the conjugated polymeric nanocarriers functionalized with phenylboronic acid tags on surface as binding sites for ATP could be converted to the water-soluble conjugated polyelectrolytes in an ATP-rich environment, which promotes the disassembly of the drug carrier and subsequent release of the cargo. In vivo studies validate that this formulation exhibits promising capability for inhibition of tumor growth. We also evaluate the metabolism process by monitoring the fluorescence signal of the conjugated polymer through the in vivo NIR imaging
