Text-based Emotion Aware Recommender
We apply the concept of users' emotion vectors (UVECs) and movies' emotion
vectors (MVECs) as building components of Emotion Aware Recommender System. We
built a comparative platform that consists of five recommenders based on
content-based and collaborative filtering algorithms. We employed a Tweets
Affective Classifier to classify movies' emotion profiles through movie
overviews. We construct MVECs from the movie emotion profiles. We track users'
movie watching history to formulate UVECs by taking the average of all the
MVECs from all the movies a user has watched. With the MVECs, we built an
Emotion Aware Recommender as one of the comparative platforms' algorithms. We
evaluated the top-N recommendation lists generated by these Recommenders and
found the top-N list of Emotion Aware Recommender showed serendipity
recommendations.Comment: 13 pages, 8 tables, International Conference on Natural Language

Cascaded multilevel inverter for vertical stabilization and radial control power supplies
This paper presents the analysis and topology selection for the power supplies of the two DTT equatorial in-vessel coils for plasma vertical stabilization and fast radial control. The physics requirements and assumptions are analyzed in order to identify the system specifications. Since the basic configuration with two independent power supply circuits is too vulnerable to fast plasma events as disruptions, a circuit configuration including both coils is introduced. Two successive solutions, with three or two power converters, are proposed to supply such a common circuit. The adopted topology, based on cascaded H-bridge converters with IGBTs, is simulated by means of a simplified circuital model, that also consider the plasma disruptions. The simulation results show that vertical stabilization and fast radial control functions can be simultaneously achieved with two identical power converters and a passive imbalance branch by using a specific current control scheme
Hybrid vehicle drive with synchronously modulated dual inverters
Analysis of operation of propulsion electric drive system with asymmetrical six-phase induction motor, supplied by the battery and fuel cells, has been performed. Power conversion part of the drive includes two neutral-point-clamped inverters, controlled by algorithms of synchronised pulsewidth modulation (PWM), providing both continuous phase voltage synchronization and common-mode voltage cancellation in the system.
Dual inverters with synchronized PWM for photovoltaic generation
Analysis of operation of photovoltaic system on the base of dual inverters with synchronized pulsewidth modulation (PWM), supplied by two strings of photovoltaic panels and connected to a grid by a three-phase transformer with the open winding configuration on primary side, has been performed. Algorithms of synchronized PWM are based in this case on continuous control of the switching frequencies of two inverters as function of magnitude of the DC-links voltage, providing both continuous voltage synchronization in each inverter and in the load, and also an improvement of operation of photovoltaic systems during solar irradiance fluctuation.

The combined diabetes and renal control trial (C-DIRECT) - a feasibility randomised controlled trial to evaluate outcomes in multi-morbid patients with diabetes and on dialysis using a mixed methods approach
Background: This cluster randomised controlled trial set out to investigate the feasibility and acceptability of the “Combined Diabetes and Renal Control Trial” (C-DIRECT) intervention, a nurse-led intervention based on motivational interviewing and self-management in patients with coexisting end stage renal diseases and diabetes mellitus (DM ESRD). Its efficacy to improve glycaemic control, as well as psychosocial and self-care outcomes were also evaluated as secondary outcomes.
Methods: An assessor-blinded, clustered randomised-controlled trial was conducted with 44 haemodialysis patients with DM ESRD and ≥ 8% glycated haemoglobin (HbA1c), in dialysis centres across Singapore. Patients were randomised according to dialysis shifts. 20 patients were assigned to intervention and 24 were in usual care. The C-DIRECT intervention consisted of three weekly chair-side sessions delivered by diabetes specialist nurses. Data on recruitment, randomisation, and retention, and secondary outcomes such as clinical endpoints, emotional distress, adherence, and self-management skills measures were obtained at baseline and at 12 weeks follow-up. A qualitative evaluation using interviews was conducted at the end of the trial.
Results: Of the 44 recruited at baseline, 42 patients were evaluated at follow-up. One patient died, and one discontinued the study due to deteriorating health. Recruitment, retention, and acceptability rates of C-DIRECT were generally satisfactory HbA1c levels decreased in both groups, but C-DIRECT had more participants with HbA1c < 8% at follow up compared to usual care. Significant improvements in role limitations due to physical health were noted for C-DIRECT whereas levels remained stable in usual care. No statistically significant differences between groups were observed for other clinical markers and other patient-reported outcomes. There were no adverse effects.
Conclusions: The trial demonstrated satisfactory feasibility. A brief intervention delivered on bedside as part of routine dialysis care showed some benefits in glycaemic control and on QOL domain compared with usual care, although no effect was observed in other secondary outcomes. Further research is needed to design and assess interventions to promote diabetes self-management in socially vulnerable patients
Adiposity impacts cognitive function in Asian populations: an epidemiological and Mendelian Randomization study.
BACKGROUND: Obesity and related metabolic disturbances including diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia predict future cognitive decline. Asia has a high prevalence of both obesity and metabolic disease, potentially amplifying the future burden of dementia in the region. We aimed to investigate the impact of adiposity and metabolic risk on cognitive function in Asian populations, using an epidemiological analysis and a two-sample Mendelian Randomization (MR) study. METHODS: The Health for Life in Singapore (HELIOS) Study is a population-based cohort of South-East-Asian men and women in Singapore, aged 30-84 years. We analyzed 8769 participants with metabolic and cognitive data collected between 2018 and 2021. Whole-body fat mass was quantified with Dual X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA). Cognition was assessed using a computerized cognitive battery. An index of general cognition ' g ' was derived through factor analysis. We tested the relationship of fat mass indices and metabolic measures with ' g ' using regression approaches. We then performed inverse-variance-weighted MR of adiposity and metabolic risk factors on ' g ', using summary statistics for genome-wide association studies of BMI, visceral adipose tissue (VAT), waist-hip-ratio (WHR), blood pressure, HDL cholesterol, triglycerides, fasting glucose, HbA1c, and general cognition. FINDINGS: Participants were 58.9% female, and aged 51.4 (11.3) years. In univariate analysis, all 29 adiposity and metabolic measures assessed were associated with ' g ' at P < 0.05. In multivariable analyses, reduced ' g ' was consistently associated with increased visceral fat mass index and lower HDL cholesterol (P < 0.001), but not with blood pressure, triglycerides, or glycemic indices. The reduction in ' g ' associated with 1SD higher visceral fat, or 1SD lower HDL cholesterol, was equivalent to a 0.7 and 0.9-year increase in chronological age respectively (P < 0.001). Inverse variance MR analyses showed that reduced ' g ' is associated with genetically determined elevation of VAT, BMI and WHR (all P < 0.001). In contrast, MR did not support a causal role for blood pressure, lipid, or glycemic indices on cognition. INTERPRETATION: We show an independent relationship between adiposity and cognition in a multi-ethnic Asian population. MR analyses suggest that both visceral adiposity and raised BMI are likely to be causally linked to cognition. Our findings have important implications for preservation of cognitive health, including further motivation for action to reverse the rising burden of obesity in the Asia-Pacific region.
