The effect of temperature on nickel solubility in silica saturated fayalite slags from 1523 to 1623 K

    No full text
The solubility of nickel in silica saturated fayalite slags has been measured at 1523 K and 1623 K through equilibration with liquid Ni-Au-Fe alloys and CO2/CO gas. Solubility in weight percent is expressed as a function of oxygen pressure and activity of nickel and the data combined with previous measurements at 1573 K to quantify the effect of temperature on nickel solubility and to estimate the heat of solution of NiO in silica saturated slags

The activity of iron in low-iron liquid (Ni + Au + Fe) and solid (Ni + Fe) alloys at 1573 K

The activity of Fe was measured in liquid (Ni + Au + Fe) alloys (0 to 0.2 mole fraction of Fe) and solid (Ni + Fe) alloys (0 to 0.27 mole fraction of Fe) by individually equilibrating with iron silicate slag of known wüstite activity, and (CO2 + CO) gas mixture of known oxygen potential. For (Ni + Au + Fe) alloys, the activity of Fe showed negative deviations from ideality at most compositions studied, and for (Ni + Fe) alloys, marked negative deviations at all compositions studied. The latter result gave an activity of Ni, calculated from the Gibbs-Duhem equation, which was less ideal than reported previously
