    Enhancement of Transparency and Adaptability by Online Tracking of Enterprise Processes

    Enterprises are seeking novel approaches to reduce cost in complying with regulations and requirements from original equipment manufacturers. Consequently, enterprises are investing in manufacturing execution system (MES) solutions for realizing these requirements. However, most of the MES solutions do not support processing of real-time process data acquired from shop floor for online monitoring and control of enterprise processes. Further, monitoring of enterprise processes can be classified into online tracking and passive tracing. In the contribution, a framework is envisaged for online tracking of enterprise processes based on MES concepts. This framework has been validated in an industrial scenario

    Current-sheet formation in incompressible electron magnetohydrodynamics

    The nonlinear dynamics of axisymmetric, as well as helical, frozen-in vortex structures is investigated by the Hamiltonian method in the framework of ideal incompressible electron magnetohydrodynamics. For description of current-sheet formation from a smooth initial magnetic field, local and nonlocal nonlinear approximations are introduced and partially analyzed that are generalizations of the previously known exactly solvable local model neglecting electron inertia.     This paper outlines the clinical application of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) for the assessment of treatment outcomes and discusses current work to superimpose digital dental models and 3-dimensinal photographs. Superimposition of CBCTs on stable structures of reference now allow assessment of 3-dimensional dental, skeletal, and soft-tissue changes for both growing and nongrowing patients.     Fluid Simulations of Three-Dimensional Reconnection that Capture the Lower-Hybrid Drift Instability

    Fluid models that approximate kinetic effects have received attention recently in the modelling of large scale plasmas such as planetary magnetospheres. In three-dimensional reconnection, both reconnection itself and current sheet instabilities need to be represented appropriately. We show that a heat flux closure based on pressure gradients enables a ten moment fluid model to capture key properties of the lower-hybrid drift instability (LHDI) within a reconnection simulation. Characteristics of the instability are examined with kinetic and fluid continuum models, and its role in the three-dimensional reconnection simulation is analysed. The saturation level of the electromagnetic LHDI is higher than expected which leads to strong kinking of the current sheet. Therefore, the magnitude of the initial perturbation has significant impact on the resulting turbulence.Comment: 20 pages, 9 figure

    Herbivore Gender Effects on Volatile Induction in Aspen and on Olfactory Responses in Leaf Beetles

    Hybrid aspen (Populus tremula × tremuloides Michx.) is a fast-growing tree species used for short-rotation forestry in northern latitudes. Aspen species have a rich herbivore fauna, including defoliating leaf beetles that induce emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) when feeding on aspen leaves. We investigated the differential induction of VOCs by male and female Phratora laticollis leaf beetles feeding on hybrid aspen and the differences in the orientation of beetles in response to gender-specific induced VOCs. The hypotheses for the study were (1) the VOCs in the headspace of plants infested with beetles of the two genders individually and in mixed aggregates would vary subtly, and (2) foraging adult beetles would be able to detect differences in VOC blends and use them to fine-tune their orientation choices. In Y-tube bioassays, both females and males preferred VOCs from leaves damaged by one gender (females or males) over undamaged leaves. However, if leaves were damaged by a two-gender population, neither females nor males indicated a preference over volatiles of undamaged leaves. Leaves damaged by both beetle genders simultaneously had significantly increased green leaf volatile (GLV), benzenoid and homoterpene emissions compared to undamaged leaves. Emissions of these compounds possibly indicate higher herbivore pressure and a higher risk of attack by parasitoids and predators and could thus be the cause of the lack of beetle preference. Our findings provide new basic information on gender-based host plant selection by herbivores and may be helpful in the development of sustainable biogenic VOC-based herbivore-control methods for intensive short-rotation hybrid aspen production

    First observation of spin-helical Dirac fermions and topological phases in undoped and doped Bi2Te3 demonstrated by spin-ARPES spectroscopy

    Electron systems that possess light-like dispersion relations or the conical Dirac spectrum, such as graphene and bismuth, have recently been shown to harbor unusual collective states in high magnetic fields. Such states are possible because their light-like electrons come in spin pairs that are chiral,which means that their direction of propagation is tied to a quantity called pseudospin that describes their location in the crystal lattice. An emerging direction in quantum materials research is the manipulation of atomic spin-orbit coupling to simulate the effect of a spin dependent magnetic field,in attempt to realize novel spin phases of matter. This effect has been proposed to realize systems consisting of unpaired Dirac cones that are helical, meaning their direction of propagation is tied to the electron spin itself, which are forbidden to exist in graphene or bismuth. The experimental existence of topological order can not be determined without spin-resolved measurements. Here we report a spin-and angle-resolved photoemission study of the hexagonal surface of the Bi2Te3 and Bi{2-x}MnxTe3 series, which is found to exhibit a single helical Dirac cone that is fully spin-polarized. Our observations of a gap in the bulk spin-degenerate band and a spin-resolved surface Dirac node close to the chemical potential show that the low energy dynamics of Bi2Te3 is dominated by the unpaired spin-helical Dirac modes. Our spin-texture measurements prove the existence of a rare topological phase in this materials class for the first time, and suggest its suitability for novel 2D Dirac spin device applications beyond the chiral variety or traditional graphene.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

    Cardiovascular-renal axis disorders in the domestic dog and cat: a veterinary consensus statement

    OBJECTIVES There is a growing understanding of the complexity of interplay between renal and cardiovascular systems in both health and disease. The medical profession has adopted the term "cardiorenal syndrome" (CRS) to describe the pathophysiological relationship between the kidney and heart in disease. CRS has yet to be formally defined and described by the veterinary profession and its existence and importance in dogs and cats warrant investigation. The CRS Consensus Group, comprising nine veterinary cardiologists and seven nephrologists from Europe and North America, sought to achieve consensus around the definition, pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of dogs and cats with "cardiovascular-renal disorders" (CvRD). To this end, the Delphi formal methodology for defining/building consensus and defining guidelines was utilised. METHODS Following a literature review, 13 candidate statements regarding CvRD in dogs and cats were tested for consensus, using a modified Delphi method. As a new area of interest, well-designed studies, specific to CRS/CvRD, are lacking, particularly in dogs and cats. Hence, while scientific justification of all the recommendations was sought and used when available, recommendations were largely reliant on theory, expert opinion, small clinical studies and extrapolation from data derived from other species. RESULTS Of the 13 statements, 11 achieved consensus and 2 did not. The modified Delphi approach worked well to achieve consensus in an objective manner and to develop initial guidelines for CvRD. DISCUSSION The resultant manuscript describes consensus statements for the definition, classification, diagnosis and management strategies for veterinary patients with CvRD, with an emphasis on the pathological interplay between the two organ systems. By formulating consensus statements regarding CvRD in veterinary medicine, the authors hope to stimulate interest in and advancement of the understanding and management of CvRD in dogs and cats. The use of a formalised method for consensus and guideline development should be considered for other topics in veterinary medicine

    Uncertainty estimates and L_2 bounds for the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation

    We consider the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky (KS) equation in one spatial dimension with periodic boundary conditions. We apply a Lyapunov function argument similar to the one first introduced by Nicolaenko, Scheurer, and Temam, and later improved by Collet, Eckmann, Epstein and Stubbe, and Goodman, to prove that ||u||_2 < C L^1.5. This result is slightly weaker than that recently announced by Giacomelli and Otto, but applies in the presence of an additional linear destabilizing term. We further show that for a large class of Lyapunov functions \phi the exponent 1.5 is the best possible from this line of argument. Further, this result together with a result of Molinet gives an improved estimate for L_2 boundedness of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation in thin rectangular domains in two spatial dimensions.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figure; typos corrected, references added; figure modifie
