Directions, where my practical part of thesis lead me, is preset moment "now", its understanding in different disciplines and also empiric examination of collision between the time of inside quality and time, which has set independent scale into our world - chronological time. Motive for choosing such topic is mainly my own experience, but it is also reaction to contemporary tendencies in art scene, which (by my opinion) are turning away from present. The outcome of this interest is a video Uchopit okamžik/hold the moment ( 08'30 '' , 2016) filmed at studio keying screen accompanied by audio commentary. The second video Natáhnout okamžik/extend the moment ( 01'00 '', 2016) is a video recording of my own experience with time. I came out from my own experience and also resources and nonfiction of the phenomenological texts by authors such as Emmanuel Lévians or Jan Sokol.

Geometry of the Late Gothic Portal in Handlová Church

    No full text
Gothic architecture is one of the oldest surviving architecture in Slovakia. The Church of St Catherine of Alexandria in Handlová was built in the High Gothic period of 1360 - 1370; its main stone portal belongs to the later phase of 1502. The paper focuses on architectural features and geometry of this late gothic portal. The portal has a geometrical construction clearly based on the square of 2670 × 2670 mm. The division into thirds is applied in the details of the intersecting stone mouldings. Conclusions of the geometrical analysis suggest that the ratio of width to height of the entire portal could be close to 2 : 3 or 5 : 8 to suggest some consideration, but it was not a primary goal to attain precise ratios. The stone cutter just followed many times repeated geometrical procedure - square and the pointed arch, based on it

Environmental Education and its Potential to Support Conservation Activities

    No full text
The extinction of species is often induced by human activity and local communities play therefore a key role in the sustainability of any conservation program. Many conservation programs consequently urge a need to include an education component alongside their conservation actions. Literature review summarizes the problematics of environmental education of biodiversity conservation programs and its evaluation. It namely focuses on link between environmental education and pro-environmental behaviour; specifics for environmental education for developing countries and conservation activities; potential of outdoor excursions within environmental education; and evaluation of environmental education programs. A series of environmental educational programs are being held in order to support conservation of critically endangered Western Derby Eland managed by Czech University of Life Sciences and Directorate of National Parks in Senegal. New programs will be performed in 2015 and evaluated in 2015 and 2016. The thesis aims to evaluate the impact of the environmental education program for school children in the surroundings of the Bandia reserve where conservation of African charismatic fauna takes place, with critically endangered Western Derby eland as conservation flagship. Using the 2-Factor Model of Environmental Values it will be investigated whether there is a positive link between increased environmental knowledge and change of attitudes. Secondly, the outdoor excursion will be compared with multimedia presentation in class settings in terms of effectivity on long term-remaining knowledge and change of attitudes towards nature conservation. The socio-cultural background (urban x rural areas) and previous experience with wildlife of respondents will be assessed for its impact on environmental knowledge and attitudes towards wildlife

Geometrical analysis of Palesch family chapel in Kľačno, former Gaidel in Western Slovakia.

Oval and elliptic spaces are one group of central plans, used mainly in sacral architecture and palaces. Paper deals with geometrical analysis of one of the smaller representatives of the neoclassical sacral architecture with oval plan - Palesch family chapel of Virgin Mary in village Kľačno in Western Slovakia. Oval and elliptic forms are not so often used in Slovak historical architecture and they are almost always connected with foreign influence and knowledge brought form Vienna, Paris, Pest, Eger and other education and praxis localities of the builder or architect. This uncommon oval form used in the small chapel is therefore certainly of interest from the point of view of architecture and geometry

Entasis, upward curvature, columnar inclination and several other manipulations or deviations from the strict geometrical rules were known in Ancient Greece and Rome and some of them - entasis could be taken as example - were used up to the beginning of the 20th century in eclectic and historicizing architecture. The article mentions historical texts about entasis from Vitruvius up to Renaissance works. Mainly Vignola’s description of proper and elegant way of how to construct columnar entasis curve of the Tuscan and Doric order columns is discussed in detail and expressed mathematically
