    Prawns and other crustaceans contribute about 15% of the total marine fish landings in India. Our present annual production of prawns is over 100,000 tons, ranking next only to that of the U.S.A. Large quantities of prawns are preserved by sundrying after previously boiling in salt solution for the internal market as well as for export to Ceylon, Burma and Malaya. A relatively small fraction is sent in ice to inland towns by rail or other conveyance. It then becomes binding on our part to make the best use of this natural bounty without any wastage whatsoever.     The paper deals with some of the recent achievements made towards finding out ways and means of proper handling, transportation, preservation by different methods of processing, economic utilization of the byproducts and equitable distribution of our fishery products. Hygienic methods of handling fresh fish on board, proper icing procedures, improvements in existing containers and ' evolution of cheap and rew~ ones including methods for long distance transportation, reported recently, have been briefly reviewed. Procedures for preservation of our important food fishes and shell fishes by freezing, canning and dehydration including curing have been summarised.     As one of the activities of the NASA/MSFC Pump Stage Technology Team, the present effort was focused on using CFD in the design and analysis of high performance rocket engine pumps. Under this effort, a three-dimensional Navier-Stokes code was used for various inducer and impeller flow field calculations. An existing algebraic grid generation procedure was-extended to allow for nonzero blade thickness, splitter blades, and hub/shroud cavities upstream or downstream of the (main) blades. This resulted in a fast, robust inducer/impeller geometry/grid generation package. Problems associated with running a compressible flow code to simulate an incompressible flow were resolved; related aspects of the numerical algorithm (viz., the matrix preconditioning, the artificial dissipation, and the treatment of low Mach number flows) were addressed. As shown by the calculations performed under the present effort, the resulting code, in conjunction with the grid generation package, is an effective tool for the rapid solution of three-dimensional viscous inducer and impeller flows

    Clinical comparison of different cardiovascular risk scores for cardiovascular risk prediction in Indian patients

    Background: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the main cause of mortality and disability in India. Early and sustained exposure to behavioral risk factors leads to development of CVD. The present study was conducted to compare different cardiovascular calculators for CVD risk assessment models in young Indian patients presenting with myocardial infarction.Methods: This study included 85 patients with myocardial infarction (MI). Their predicted 10-year risk of CVD was calculated using three clinically most relevant risk assessment models viz. Framingham Risk score (RiskFRS), American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association (RiskACC/AHA) and the 3rd Joint British Societies risk calculator (RiskJBS).Results: RiskFRS recognized the highest number of patients (15.4%) at high CVD risk while RiskACC/AHA and RiskJBS calculators provided inferior risk assessment but statistically significant relationship. RiskFRS and RiskACC/AHA (Pearson's r 0.870, p<0.001).Conclusions: RiskFRS seems to be as most useful CVD risk assessment model in young Indian patients. RiskFRS is likely to identify the number of patients at тАШhigh-riskтАЩ as compared to RiskJBS and RiskACC/AHA

    Two Dimensional Quantum Mechanical Modeling of Nanotransistors

    Quantization in the inversion layer and phase coherent transport are anticipated to have significant impact on device performance in 'ballistic' nanoscale transistors. While the role of some quantum effects have been analyzed qualitatively using simple one dimensional ballistic models, two dimensional (2D) quantum mechanical simulation is important for quantitative results. In this paper, we present a framework for 2D quantum mechanical simulation of a nanotransistor / Metal Oxide Field Effect Transistor (MOSFET). This framework consists of the non equilibrium Green's function equations solved self-consistently with Poisson's equation. Solution of this set of equations is computationally intensive. An efficient algorithm to calculate the quantum mechanical 2D electron density has been developed. The method presented is comprehensive in that treatment includes the three open boundary conditions, where the narrow channel region opens into physically broad source, drain and gate regions. Results are presented for (i) drain current versus drain and gate voltages, (ii) comparison to results from Medici, and (iii) gate tunneling current, using 2D potential profiles.     Time-Dependent Warping, Fluxes, and NCYM

    We describe the supergravity solutions dual to D6-branes with both time-dependent and time-independent B-fields. These backgrounds generalize the Taub-NUT metric in two key ways: they have asymmetric warp factors and background fluxes. In the time-dependent case, the warping takes a novel form. Kaluza-Klein reduction in these backgrounds is unusual, and we explore some of the new features. In particular, we describe how a localized gauge-field emerges with an analogue of the open string metric and coupling. We also describe a gravitational analogue of the Seiberg-Witten map. This provides a framework in supergravity both for studying non-commutative gauge theories, and for constructing novel warped backgrounds.Comment: 32 pages, LaTeX, references adde
