Antiresonant hollow core fiber with octave spanning bandwidth for short haul data communications
We report an effectively singlemode tubular antiresonant hollow core fiber with >1000nm bandwidth and record-low loss of 25dB/km, fully connectorizable with SMF28. We demonstrate penalty-free data transmission at wavelengths of 1065, 1565 and 1963nm
Nonlinear optics in wavelength-size waveguides: how far can the conversion efficiency be pushed?
When their size approach the wavelength of light propagating in them, waveguides exhibit favorable properties such as high nonlinearity and strong confinement. These properties have been used for a variety of nonlinear effects, including supercontinuum generation, second-, third- and one-third- harmonic generation, pulse shaping and nonlinear switching.Although simulations predicted conversion efficiencies well in excess of 30% for most of harmonic generation, experiments showed conversions of a fraction of a percent, at best. This talk will discuss harmonic generation in wavelength-size waveguides and limitations to the practical achievement of theoretical efficiency. In particular, intrinsic surface roughness due to thermal surface waves frozen during fabrication provide a constantly changing detuning from the ideal phase matching conditions, considerably reducing the overall efficiency for waveguides longer than 1mm

Technology and implementation science to forge the future of evidence-based psychotherapies: the PRIDE scale-up study
Objective: To report the interim results from the training of providers in evidence-based psychotherapies (EBPs) and use of mobile applications.
Design and setting: The Partnerships in Research to Implement and Disseminate Sustainable and Scalable Evidence (PRIDE) study is a cluster-randomised hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial comparing three delivery pathways for integrating comprehensive mental healthcare into primary care in Mozambique. Innovations include the use of EBPs and scaling-up of task-shifted mental health services using mobile applications.
Main outcome measures: We examined EBP training attendance, certification, knowledge and intentions to deliver each component. We collected qualitative data through rapid ethnography and focus groups. We tracked the use of the mobile applications to investigate early reach of a valid screening tool (Electronic Mental Wellness Tool) and the roll out of the EBPs PARTICIPANTS: Psychiatric technicians and primary care providers trained in the EBPs.
Results: PRIDE has trained 110 EBP providers, supervisors and trainers and will train 279 community health workers in upcoming months. The trainings improved knowledge about the EBPs and trainees indicated strong intentions to deliver the EBP core components. Trained providers began using the mobile applications and appear to identify cases and provide appropriate treatment.
Conclusions: The future of EBPs requires implementation within existing systems of care with fidelity to their core evidence-based components. To sustainably address the vast mental health treatment gap globally, EBP implementation demands: expanding the mental health workforce by training existing human resources; sequential use of EBPs to comprehensively treat mental disorders and their comorbid presentations and leveraging digital screening and treatment applications.

Association of CSSM066 and ILSTS011 microsatellite markers and thyroglobulin gene SNP with backfat in Canchim cattle
Canchim, a synthetic breed of cattle derived from the Charolais and Zebu group has been used in the beef-cattle industry in Brazil as an alternative for intensifying production. One of the main concerns with this breed is its poor fat deposition and consequently, there is an effort to increase the performance for this trait. The thyroglobulin gene is located in a QTL region for fat deposition, and reports describe the influence of a polymorphism in the 5´ leader sequence of that gene on marbling and subcutaneous fat thickness. This study analyzed the association of this polymorphism in the thyroglobulin gene, as well as of two flanking microsatellite markers, CSSM066 and ILSTS011, with backfat thickness in 987 Canchim beef cattle. The CSSM066 and ILSTS011 microsatellite markers have a effect on fat thickness in the studied populations. However, this trait did not have association with the polymorphism of the thyroglobulin gene, which suggests that other genes of bovine chromosome 14 may be responsible for the variation in this trait
