Elastic anomaly of heavy fermion systems in a crystalline field
An elastic anomaly, observed in the heavy fermi liquid state of Ce alloys
(for example, CeCu and CeTe), is analyzed by using the infinite-
Anderson lattice model. The four atomic energy levels are assumed for
f-electrons. Two of them are mutually degenerate. A small crystalline splitting
is assumed between two energy levels. The fourfold degenerate
conduction bands are also considered in the model. We solve the model using the
mean field approximation to slave bosons, changing the Fermi energy in order to
keep the total electron number constant. The nonzero value of the mean field of
the slave bosons persists over the temperatures much higher than the Kondo
temperature. This is the effect of the constant electron number. Next, the
linear susceptibility with respect to is calculated in order to obtain
the renomalized elastic constant. The resulting temperature dependence of the
constant shows the downward dip. We point out the relation of our finding with
the experimental data.Comment: submitted to J. Phys.: Condens. Matter, please request figure copies

Determination of the hydrogen and helium ion densities in the initial and final stages of a plasma in the Large Helical Device by optical spectroscopy
Emission line intensities in the UV and visible wavelength range have been measured in the initial and final stages of a discharge in the Large Helical Device (LHD) [O. Motojima et al., Phys. Plasmas 8, 1843 (1999)]. From these results combined with T_e and n_e, which are determined spectroscopically, the ionization and recombination fluxes of hydrogen and helium are estimated in the region of high line emissivities. The temporal behavior of line-averaged n_e which is evaluated from these fluxes is found to be consistent with the results of the interferometer measurement. This implies that in such transient stages of the plasma the temporal variation of n_e is dominated by the atomic ionization-recombination processes rather than the particle transport or diffusion. On the basis of that characteristic in LHD, the line-averaged ion densities for hydrogen and helium just before the termination of the plasma heating are determined. Thus, a method of the density determination of the fueling gas and of the ash is suggested for future fusion devices
Signatures of Baryogenesis in the MSSM
We revisit the electroweak baryogenesis within the context of the minimal
supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), studying its potential collider
signatures. We find that this mechanism of baryogenesis does not give a new CP
violating signal at the -factories. The first circumstantial evidence may
come from enhanced or mixing. If a light right-handed scalar top
and Higgs are found as required, a linear collider represents the best
possibility for confirming the scenario.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures. Minor typos fixed. Reference Adde
KEGG Atlas mapping for global analysis of metabolic pathways
KEGG Atlas is a new graphical interface to the KEGG suite of databases, especially to the systems information in the PATHWAY and BRITE databases. It currently consists of a single global map and an associated viewer for metabolism, covering about 120 KEGG metabolic pathway maps and about 10 BRITE hierarchies. The viewer allows the user to navigate and zoom the global map under the Ajax technology. The mapping of high-throughput experimental data onto the global map is the main use of KEGG Atlas. In the global metabolism map, the node (circle) is a chemical compound and the edge (line) is a set of reactions linked to a set of KEGG Orthology (KO) entries for enzyme genes. Once gene identifiers in different organisms are converted to the K number identifiers in the KO system, corresponding line segments can be highlighted in the global map, allowing the user to view genome sequence data as organism-specific pathways, gene expression data as up- or down-regulated pathways, etc. Once chemical compounds are converted to the C number identifiers in KEGG, metabolomics data can also be displayed in the global map. KEGG Atlas is available at http://www.genome.jp/kegg/atlas/
