    Perimenstrual symptoms and it's management - Assessment with Menstrual Distress Questionnaire -

    月経周期の変化に伴う多様で複雑な月経周辺期の症状を,出来るだけ単純で基本的に共通した変化として捉え,症状に適した対応を検討することを目的として本研究を行った。月経を有する22~45歳の女性34名に対し,Menstrual Distress Questionnaireの即時的回答法を用いて月経周辺期を[痛み],[集中力],[行動変化],[自律神経反応],[水分貯留],[負の感情]から構成された35症状6領域で縦断的に追究し,以下の結果を得た。 1.月経周辺期の症状を縦断的に比較検討した結果,Moosのデータと近似した日本人のデータを示した。 2.月経周辺期における領域の推移では,身体的症状で構成される[痛み領域],[水分貯留領域]の2領域が精神的症状で構成される他の領域に比べ,常に上位を占めていた。以上の事より,月経周辺期の生理的変化に伴う精神的愁訴は,身体的変化によって誘発されている可能性が示唆された。Each of 34 women rated their experience of 46 symptoms on a six-point scale separately for the premenstrual, menstrual, and intermenstrual phases of her most recent menstrual cycle. The 46 symptoms were intercorrelated and factor analyzed separately for each phase. These symptoms were divided into six clusters of symptoms, such as pain, concentration, behavioral change, autonomic reaction, water retention, and negative affect. Pain and water retention were composed of physical symptoms, were always at higher position than three clusters of menstrual symptoms in perimenstrual change. Thus, mental symptoms in perimenstrual physiological changes were might be induced by physical changes

    AbstractAlpha-synuclein is analyzed in physiological conditions by CLEANEX-PM methodology, in which the amide-proton exchange can be monitored at millisecond scale. The relationship between kex and [OH]− is confirmed as a linear correlation with slope 1, indicating EX2 regime. There are significant residual structures at the N- and C-terminal regions. The structure at the C-terminal region is more stable than that of the N-terminal region. The middle part including NAC region is not completely protected. The data acquired at various pH and mixing time conditions followed by linear fitting give accurate information about residual structures

    The E3 Ubiquitin Ligase Activity of Trip12 Is Essential for Mouse Embryogenesis

    Protein ubiquitination is a post-translational protein modification that regulates many biological conditions [1], [2], [3], [4]. Trip12 is a HECT-type E3 ubiquitin ligase that ubiquitinates ARF and APP-BP1 [5], [6]. However, the significance of Trip12 in vivo is largely unknown. Here we show that the ubiquitin ligase activity of Trip12 is indispensable for mouse embryogenesis. A homozygous mutation in Trip12 (Trip12mt/mt) that disrupts the ubiquitin ligase activity resulted in embryonic lethality in the middle stage of development. Trip12mt/mt embryos exhibited growth arrest and increased expression of the negative cell cycle regulator p16 [7], [8], [9], [10]. In contrast, Trip12mt/mt ES cells were viable. They had decreased proliferation, but maintained both the undifferentiated state and the ability to differentiate. Trip12mt/mt ES cells had increased levels of the BAF57 protein (a component of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex) and altered gene expression patterns. These data suggest that Trip12 is involved in global gene expression and plays an important role in mouse development

    Evolutionary inactivation of a sialidase in group B Streptococcus

    Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of bacterial sepsis and meningitis in newborns. GBS possesses a protein with homology to the pneumococcal virulence factor, NanA, which has neuraminidase (sialidase) activity and promotes blood-brain barrier penetration. However, phylogenetic sequence and enzymatic analyses indicate the GBS NanA ortholog has lost sialidase function – and for this distinction we designate the gene and encoded protein nonA/NonA. Here we analyze NonA function in GBS pathogenesis, and through heterologous expression of active pneumococcal NanA in GBS, potential costs of maintaining sialidase function. GBS wild-type and ΔnonA strains lack sialidase activity, but forced expression of pneumococcal NanA in GBS induced degradation of the terminal sialic acid on its exopolysaccharide capsule. Deletion of nonA did not change GBS-whole blood survival or brain microvascular cell invasion. However, forced expression of pneumococcal NanA in GBS removed terminal sialic acid residues from the bacterial capsule, restricting bacterial proliferation in human blood and in vivo upon mouse infection. GBS expressing pneumococcal NanA had increased invasion of human brain microvascular endothelial cells. Thus, we hypothesize that nonA lost enzyme activity allowing the preservation of an effective survival factor, the sialylated exopolysaccharide capsule

    Education for Disaster Prevention in England : Analysis of Secondary Geography Textbooks

    The purpose of this study is to clarify the aims, contents and activities of education for disaster prevention on geographical education in England, by analysis of secondary textbooks. Thereby, we want to contribute the improvement of Japanese geographical education. As a result, we clarified the following: 1) when students study a natural disaster in UK, they learn a plurality of cases including domestic and foreign regions, 2) all textbooks contain activities that students can form attitudes and decide what to do for disaster prevention. On the basis of these results, we suggest improvements of education for disaster prevention. The first is to develop a clear understanding of a natural disaster with multi-area including Japan. The second is to place contents and activities for forming a value relevant to awareness of disaster prevention into Japanese geography textbook. The third is to set an activity to learn practical strategies for disaster prevention in the real world
