Marginal Political Practices of Youth as a Communication Trend in the Post-Politics Era

The article examines the marginal political practices of young people as a way of communicating with the authorities. Such characteristics of political practices of young people as virulence, diversification, non-normality and hybridity have been revealed. Based on the analysis of political cases of recent years, the most popular marginal political practices, meme practices, the battle of sticker packs, hashtags, etc. have been identified. The main research method was trend watching. In the course of the study, the value-semantic grounds for the application of marginal political practices by young people and their legal regulation by the state were identified. The analysis showed that the popularity of marginal political practices as a way of communication between young people and the authorities lies in the imperfection of the organisation of power in the Russian Federation. As a result, possible steps were identified that government institutions and individual officials can take to construct a productive dialogue with young people. In the conclusion, the results of the study are summarised, including the unpredictability of the outcomes of the use of marginal practices, their excessive legalisation and social partnership as the most effective way of their constructivisation. The study was supported by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research and ANO EISI (Autonomous Non-Commercial Organisation, Expert Institute for Social Research), Project no. 20-011-31736

PURPOSE: To present clinical cases of spontaneous ciliochoroidal detachment (CD) in non-operated eyes in patients with angle-closure glaucoma and nanophtalm.METHODS: Two patients with nanophthalm and angleclosure glaucoma were examined. Apart from standard ophthalmological examination all patients underwent ultrasound biomicroscopy of the eye using Paradigm P 40 UBM «Medical Industries, Ins» (USA) and optical coherence tomography of the anterior eye segment using Visante OCT «Carl Zeiss» (Germany).RESULTS: In the first case, the patient underwent microinvasive non-penetrating deep sclerotomy (MNPDS) with preliminary laser iridectomy and phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation. During subsequent observation a ciliochoroidal detachment was detected in the paired non-operated eye. In the second case, the patient without any surgical intervention in anamnesis manifested with CD in both eyes.CONCLUSION: CD is a complication that accompanies surgical intervention, associated with eye globe decompression, trauma and inflammatory ophthalmopathy. Uveal effusion syndrome is a rare pathology characterized by associated ciliochoroidal and serous retinal detachment. This phenomenon develops because of the peculiarities of the structure and interrelation of vascular and scleral membranes of the eye.Scientific literature widely coveres cases of effusion syndrome with nanophthalm and cases of CD after deep sclerectomy in patients with glaucoma. This paper presents a clinical case of spontaneous CD in non-operated eye with angle-closure glaucoma.Presented clinical cases demonstrate the need for a continued study of the sclera and choroid interrelation role in the pathogenesis of CD and uveal effusion development in patients with angle-closure glaucoma.

The susceptibility and excitation spectrum of (VO)2_2P2_2O7_7 in ladder and dimer chain models

We present numerical results for the magnetic susceptibility of a Heisenberg antiferromagnetic spin ladder, as a function of temperature and the spin-spin interaction strengths JJ_\perp and JJ_{||}. These are contrasted with new bulk limit results for the dimer chain. A fit to the experimental susceptibility of the candidate spin-ladder compound vanadyl pyrophosphate, (VO)2_2P2_2O7_7, gives the parameters J=7.82J_\perp = 7.82 meV and J=7.76J_{||} = 7.76 meV. With these values we predict a singlet-triplet energy gap of Egap=3.9E_{gap} = 3.9 meV, and give a numerical estimate of the ladder triplet dispersion relation ω(k)\omega(k). In contrast, a fit to the dimer chain model leads to J1=11.11J_1=11.11 meV and J2=8.02J_2=8.02 meV, which predicts a gap of Egap=4.9E_{gap} = 4.9 meV.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures available upon request, RevTex 3.0, preprint ORNL-CCIP-94-04 / RAL-94-02

Inelastic Neutron Scattering from the Spin Ladder Compound (VO)2P2O7

We present results from an inelastic neutron scattering experiment on the candidate Heisenberg spin ladder vanadyl pyrophosphate, (VO)2P2O7. We find evidence for a spin-wave excitation gap of Egap=3.7±0.2E_{gap} = 3.7\pm 0.2 meV, at a band minimum near Q=0.8A1Q=0.8 A^{-1}. This is consistent with expectations for triplet spin waves in (VO)2P2O7 in the spin-ladder model, and is to our knowledge the first confirmation in nature of a Heisenberg antiferromagnetic spin ladder.Comment: 11 pages and 2 figures (available as hard copy or postscript files from the authors, send request to [email protected] or [email protected]), TEX using jnl, reforder and eqnorder, ORNL-CCIP-94-05 / RAL-94-04

A randomised, open-label, phase 2 study of the IDO1 inhibitor epacadostat (INCB024360) versus tamoxifen as therapy for biochemically recurrent (CA-125 relapse)-only epithelial ovarian cancer, primary peritoneal carcinoma, or fallopian tube cancer

Objective Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase-1 (IDO1) is a key regulator of immune tolerance in ovarian cancer. This study investigated efficacy and safety of the IDO1 enzyme inhibitor epacadostat versus tamoxifen in patients with biochemical-only recurrence (CA-125 elevation) following complete remission after first-line chemotherapy for advanced epithelial ovarian, primary peritoneal, or fallopian tube cancer. Methods In this open-label, phase 2 study (NCT01685255), patients were randomised 1:1 to epacadostat 600 mg or tamoxifen 20 mg twice daily for successive 28-day cycles and stratified by time since completion of first-line chemotherapy to first CA-125 elevation (3 to < 12 or ≥ 12 months). The primary endpoint was investigator-assessed progression-free survival (PFS; RECIST v1.1). Secondary endpoints included CA-125 response (Gynecologic Cancer InterGroup criteria), overall survival, safety, and tolerability. Results The study was terminated primarily due to slow accrual and lack of evidence of superiority. Median PFS was 3.75 months for epacadostat (n = 22) versus 5.56 months for tamoxifen (n = 20; HR, 1.34 [95% CI, 0.58–3.14]; P = 0.54). Of evaluable patients, 1 (5.0%) epacadostat and 3 (15.8%) tamoxifen patients had confirmed CA-125 responses. The most common treatment-emergent adverse event was fatigue (epacadostat, 36.4%; tamoxifen, 40.0%). Immune-related adverse events, observed with epacadostat only, were primarily rash (18.2%) and pruritus (9.1%). Epacadostat pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics were consistent with its known mechanism of action. IDO1 expression was observed in 94% of archival tumour samples. Conclusions This first report of immunotherapy evaluation in biochemical-only relapse ovarian cancer and of IDO1 inhibitor monotherapy in ovarian cancer found no significant difference in efficacy between epacadostat and tamoxifen. Epacadostat was generally well tolerated

Dark energy problem: from phantom theory to modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity

The solution of dark energy problem in the models without scalars is presented. It is shown that late-time accelerating cosmology may be generated by the ideal fluid with some implicit equation of state. The universe evolution within modified Gauss-Bonnet gravity is considered. It is demonstrated that such gravitational approach may predict the (quintessential, cosmological constant or transient phantom) acceleration of the late-time universe with natural transiton from deceleration to acceleration (or from non-phantom to phantom era in the last case).Comment: LaTeX 8 pages, prepared for the Proceedings of QFEXT'05, minor correctons, references adde

Expression of a Stilbene Synthase Gene from the Vitis labrusca x Vitis vinifera L. Hybrid Increases the Resistance of Transgenic Nicotiana tabacum L. Plants to Erwinia carotovora

‘Isabel’ grape (Vitis labrusca x V. vinifera L. hybrid) is one of the main grape cultivars in Russia and some other countries for processing, due to its vigor, tolerance to the main fungal diseases, high yield and potential for sugar accumulation. The stilbene synthase gene VlvSTS was isolated from the hybrid grape cv. Isabel and cloned into a pSS plant transformation vector under the control of a constitutive 35S RNA double promoter of the cauliflower mosaic virus, CaMV 35SS. VlvSTS-gene containing transgenic tobacco lines were obtained and analyzed. For the first time plants expressing the VlvSTS gene were shown to have an enhanced resistance to the bacterial pathogen Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora B15. Transgenic plants were tested for resistance to a number of fungal pathogens. The plants were resistant to the grey mould fungus Botrytis cinerea, but not to the fungi Fusarium oxysporum, F. sporotrichioides, or F. culmorum. According to the results of a high performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, the amount of trans-resveratrol in leaves of transgenic plants with the highest expression of the VlvSTS gene was in a range from 150 to 170 µg/g of raw biomass. Change in the color and a decreased anthocyanin content in the flower corollas of transgenic plants were observed in transgenic lines with the highest expression of VlvSTS. A decrease in total flavonoid content was found in the flower petals but not the leaves of these tobacco lines. High expression of the VlvSTS gene influenced pollen development and seed productivity in transgenic plants. The size of pollen grains increased, while their total number per anther decreased. A decrease in the number of fertile pollen grains resulted in a decreased average weight of a seed boll in transgenic plants. © 2022 by the authors. Crossing of the Cosmological Constant Boundary - an Equation of State Description

The phenomenon of the dark energy transition between the quintessence regime (w>1w > -1) and the phantom regime (w<1w < -1), also known as the cosmological constant boundary crossing, is analyzed in terms of the dark energy equation of state. It is found that the dark energy equation of state in the dark energy models which exhibit the transition is {\em implicitly} defined. The generalizations of the the models explicitly constructed to exhibit the transition are studied to gain insight into the mechanism of the transition. It is found that the cancellation of the terms corresponding to the cosmological constant boundary makes the transition possible.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, talk given at QFEXT'05, Barcelona, 5-9 September 200

Dispersal of Adult Black Marlin (Istiompax indica) from a Great Barrier Reef Spawning Aggregation

    Get PDF
The black marlin (Istiompax indica) is one of the largest bony fishes in the world with females capable of reaching a mass of over 700 kg. This highly migratory predator occurs in the tropical regions of the Pacific and Indian Oceans, and is the target of regional recreational and commercial fisheries. Through the sampling of ichthyoplankton and ovaries we provide evidence that the relatively high seasonal abundance of black marlin off the Great Barrier Reef is, in fact, a spawning aggregation. Furthermore, through the tracking of individual black marlin via satellite popup tags, we document the dispersal of adult black marlin away from the spawning aggregation, thereby identifying the catchment area for this spawning stock. Although tag shedding is an issue when studying billfish, we tentatively identify the catchment area for this stock of black marlin to extend throughout the Coral Sea, including the waters of Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Micronesia, New Caledonia, Kiribati, Vanuatu, Fiji, Tuvalu and Nauru
