Peace Building in Bosnia and Herzegovina: Effects of Ingroup Identification, Outgroup Trust and Intergroup Forgiveness on Intergroup Contact

    Get PDF
The current study examines the effects of ingroup identification, outgroup trust, and intergroup forgiveness on intergroup contact quantity in the diverse cities of Sarajevo and Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of 455 individuals ranging in age from 14 to 102 self-reported as either Muslim, Roman Catholic, Orthodox Christian, or Other completed a questionnaire. Analyses revealed that ingroup identification was significantly and negatively correlated with intergroup contact quantity; however, ingroup identification was not significantly correlated with outgroup trust or intergroup forgiveness. The comparison between groups revealed significant group differences across all predictor and criterion variables. To confirm whether age or community background had a moderating effect on predicting the relation between ingroup identification, outgroup trust, and intergroup forgiveness on intergroup contact quantity, moderated regression analyses were conducted. Results revealed community background, ingroup identification, and outgroup trust were all significant contributors to the model; however, age and forgiveness were not. Taken as a whole, the entire model accounted for approximately 21% of variability in intergroup contact quantity. The results from the current study reinforce the supposition that the two cities of Sarajevo and Tuzla in Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot move towards reconciliation without first understanding the effect that strong ingroup identification has on mixing with the other diverse groups, and implementing proactive measures to enhance outgroup trust and cross-community outreach. Implementing these measures in the two cities of Sarajevo and Tuzla, along with other areas in Bosnia and Herzegovina, may improve future intergroup relations and move the country closer to reconciliation and peace

Employee Recruitment and Its Relationship with Employee Satisfaction: Verifying the Mediating Role of the Employer Brand

The transformation of a capital-intensive to knowledge-driven economy has marked the beginning of a new epoch in business doing. Carrying out business activities in an extremely dynamic environment has greatly reduced the importance of traditional concepts and techniques, which is the reason why the focus has shifted to human resources and their management. Accordingly, a company should attract, retain and motivate its employees in order to ensure a high level of their satisfaction by ensuring the achievement of strategic goals. A possible direction of achieving the desired position is based on the development of the employer brand. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to determine the impact of practice in conducting employee recruitment activities on their satisfaction, as well as the influence of the employer brand as a mediator on the identified relationship between the recruitment and satisfaction of employees in Serbia. The results of the conducted empirical research study have proven the existence of a statistically significant positive influence of employee recruitment on satisfaction, while the mediating influence of the employer brand has also been fully confirmed

Fractional flow reserve of intermediate lesions on collateral donor coronary arteries after myocardial infarction

Fractional flow reserve (FFR) is the gold standard for the functional assessment of coronary arteries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relation between angiography, QCA and FFR in borderline lesions on collateral donor coronary arteries. In addition, FFR is compared with the angiographic appearance of collaterals to infarction-related arteries and echocardiographically assessed viability of infarct related the LV wall. In 60 patients with previous IM and occluded IRA, functional assessment of borderline coronary stenosis (30-70% DS) on collaterals donor artery was performed. We have not found statistically significant differences in these parameters between groups with different angiographic appearances of collaterals and different viability of distal myocardium. However, we found higher FFR values in diabetic patients (p=0.018). Higher FFR values in diabetic patients reveal the negative effects of diabetes on collateral growth and myocardial viability

Tench (family Cyprinidae) is widespread in Europe and is one of the economically significant fish species of the region. It is most commonly bred as supplemental fish in pond polyculture with carp. Recently, its presence in our fish pond systems and natural waters has almost disappeared due to replacement with other fish species. There is necessity of tench reintroduction in aquaculture of Serbia, because its certain positive features. In order to perform tench repopulation in an adequate way it is necessary to master with controlled spawning in our equipment and practitioner hatcheries. Ambient conditions need adapt considering literature data and knowledge in technological processes of the carp production. Should tend to balancing use of the habitant nature capacities from our surrounding and production where no added chemical compounds to make tench production in our conditions organic, ecologically safe

Fractional Flow Reserve Method in Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory without Cardiosurgical Backup: Initial Experiences

Background: Coronary artery disease is the most common cause of death in a modern world. This dictates the development a network of Catheterization laboratories without cardiosurgical capabilities.Aim: We postulate that the most valuable tool in the decision process on myocardial revascularization is fractional flow reserve (FFR), especially when we deal with borderline coronary lesions.Material and Methods: A total of 72 patients with 94 intermediate coronary stenosis (30%-70% diameter reduction) were included in this study. We tested FFR and angiography based decision model on myocardial revascularization. Results:  Mean FFR value on left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) was lower than in others two arteries (p=0.017). FFR after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was significantly better (p<0.0001). The decision for PCI predominates before FFR diagnostics, but after FFR the decision is quite opposite. There is a weak negative correlation between FFR and diameter of stenosis assessed by angiography (r= - 0.245 p=0.038) and positive correlation between diameter of stenosis assessed by angiography and by quantitative coronary angiography (QCA) (r=0.406 p<0.0005).Conclusion:  Our results strongly suggest that FFR is necessary tool in centers without possibilities of heart team onsite consultation and that prevents numerous unnecessary PCI

Dobijeni rezultati pokazuju da su koncentracije Cd, Pb, Cr, Ni i Cu u istraživanom zemljištu prelazile propisane maksimalno dozvoljene koncentracije, Cd, Pb, Cr, Ni, Cu i Zn granične, a Pb i Cu remedijacione vrednosti ovih metala u zemljištu saglasno uredbi i pravilniku Republike Srbije. Najveći sadržaj svih ispitivanih metala pokazao je list vrste E. canabinum u kojima su koncentracije Cu, Ni, Pb i Cd bile u nivou toksičnih koncentracija, a Cr iznad toksične koncentracije. Koren je sadržao više Mn, Ni, Fe i Cu od stabla, a stablo Zn, Cr, Ca, Mg, Pb i Cd od korena proučavane vrste. Na osnovu dobijenih rezultata možemo preporučiti upotrebu vrste E. canabinum u fitoekstrakciji ispitivanih metala iz zagađenih zemljišta, pre svega Zn, Cr, Ca, Mg, Pb i Cd.Publishe
