    Kształcenie ratowników medycznych w Polsce - proponowane rozwiązania

    Alongside emergency physicians and emergency nurses, the profession of medical emergency care practitioners (paramedics) is the key occupation in the medical emergency sen/ice system which is now being developed in Poland. Responsible tertiary education in the field of medical emergency care aims to prepare specialised medical professionals who are able to undertake independent emergency care on the site of an accident, mass accident and disaster, especially when rescuing people whose health or life is at risk. Knowledge and practical skills obtained during the training and the overall skills of medical emergency personnel largely determine the effectiveness of medical emergency procedures undertaken by such staff on site. The author discusses challenges and problems related to education of medical emergency staff in Poland’s schools of tertiary education, focusing on the experience of the Medical University in Lublin. The plan and curriculum presented in the paper received a mark of distinction from the Ministry of Health in Poland as a model document for other schools in Poland which train specialists in the field of medical emergency care.Zawod ratownika medycznego, obok zawodu lekarza ratunkowego i pielęgniarki ratunkowej, jest kluczowym zawodem w tworzonym w Polsce systemie ratownictwa medycznego. Odpowiedzialne kształcenie w szkołach wyższych na kierunku ratownictwo medyczne ma na celu przygotowanie wyspecjalizowanej kadry medycznej, zdolnej do samodzielnych działań ratunkowych na miejscu wypadku, wypadku masowego i katastrofy, zwłaszcza w zakresie ratowania osob w stanie bezpośredniego zagrożenia życia lub zdrowia. Wiedza i umiejętności praktyczne zdobyte podczas nauki zawodu oraz sprawność ratownika medycznego w znacznym stopniu decydują o skuteczności medycznych czynności ratunkowych podejmowanych przez niego na miejscu nagłego zdarzenia. Autor omawia wyzwania i problemy kształcenia ratownikow medycznych w szkołach wyższych w Polsce, ze szczegolnym uwzględnieniem doświadczeń Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Lublinie. Przedstawiony w pracy plan i program nauczania został wyrożniony przez Ministerstwo Zdrowia i uznany za wzorcowy dokument dla innych uczelni w Polsce prowadzących kształcenie na kierunku ratownictwo medyczne

    Analysis of the professional burnout syndrome in selected groups

    The research was to analyze representations of burnout syndrome in four groups of professionals, including sex, age and susceptibility to stressful factors. The research was conducted out among: teachers, banks’ employees, building administration employees, employees of renovation and construction companies. The highest rate of stress was observed among teachers and bank employees, but connected to the national sector, because of increased contact with multitudinous people. The stressful factors that were encountered: burden of work, conflicts with co-workers and superiors. Low income, fear from being judged were predominant causes in cases of teachers and bank employees; family issues were a stressful factor in a teacher’s profession. The main components of burnout syndrome were distinguished among teachers and employees of renovation and construction companies between the age of 31-40 and bank employees and building administration employees between the age of 41-50

    The phenomenon of child abuse is a very important social issue, not only globally, but also in Poland. There is a silent consent in the Polish society for violence against children. The research presents the issues of the children abuse issue and forms. The most important are: physical abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse and negligence. Also research presents the legal instruments governing the obligation to report cases of violence against children including medical confidentiality It is still necessary to sensitize the doctors, and especially the paediatricians about the abused child issues, as well as to educate and broaden knowledge in the scope of recognizing such phenomena. The doctors’ involvement and their will to act towards the social and legal direction, by helping the family and the child are also important. In the current situation, reporting of abuse cases and non-medical actions regarding this issue is mainly a moral and professional obligation of a doctor, coming mainly from the care about patient’s health

Every year, about one million people, adults and children, die on the roads and several millions are injured. Mortality rate due to injuries from road accidents amounts to 2,2% of all deaths in the world.The research presents a mechanism of traffic accidents, pathophysiology of injury, partition of car accidents and characterized the insults of victims in various types of automobile accidents.Injuries resulting from road accidents have numerous substantial consequences as they are related with releasing large amounts of kinetic energy which must be absorbed. Kinetic energy absorbing is the basic mechanism of injury arising during road accidents.In apprising an automobile accident should take into consideration the type of the car accident and the extent of damage to the vehicle People participating in road accidents of high energy are especially endangered with substantial injuries. In Poland, the issue of the obligation to provide first aid is governed by a number of legal acts, so that citizens can feel secure in the hope that they will be assisted by witnesses if necessary. The paper presents the legal acts in force in Poland that mention the obligation to provide first aid.     Population biobanking in selected European countries and proposed model for a Polish national DNA bank

    Population biobanks offer new opportunities for public health, are rudimentary for the development of its new branch called Public Health Genomics, and are important for translational research. This article presents organizational models of population biobanks in selected European countries. Review of bibliography and websites of European population biobanks (UK, Spain, Estonia). Some countries establish national genomic biobanks (DNA banks) in order to conduct research on new methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the genetic and lifestyle diseases and on pharmacogenetic research. Individual countries have developed different organizational models of these institutions and specific legal regulations regarding various ways of obtaining genetic data from the inhabitants, donors’ rights, organizational and legal aspects. Population biobanks in European countries were funded in different manners. In light of these solutions, the authors discuss prospects of establishing a Polish national genomic biobank for research purpose. They propose the creation of such an institution based on the existing network of blood-donation centres and clinical biobanks in Poland
