Information Society, Work and the Generation of New Forms of Social Exclusion (SOWING): National Report (Portugal)

The choice over the Portuguese case studies was based on the sample constructed for the application of the firm questionnaires, during the second year of the SOWING project, 1999. This sample was fulfilled of firms among several activity sectors: textile, manufacturing, electronics, transports and software industry, based on NACE – codes (2 – digit level). Thus, we agreed to include in a new database the remaining questionnaires and construct a sample with 113 observations. Concerning the organisational change we make a distinction of three categories of change. First we analyse changes taking place at the inter-firm level (outsourcing, subcontracting, geographic relocation), followed by changes at the organisational level (deconcentration/decentralisation, reduction of hierarchical levels, introduction of cost and profit centres). The third kind of changes analysed will be those taking place at the workplace level (job enlargement/enrichment, changing character of work, work load). Sistema de gestão de benefícios sociais

As constantes mudanças na situação socioeconómica têm intensificado e modificado as demandas e pressões sociais a que as organizações são submetidas. É neste sentido que a Câmara Municipal de São Vicente - CMSV pretende implementar aos Serviços de Promoção Social um Sistema de Gestão dos Benefícios Sociais para que o processo de atribuição de apoios sociais seja mais democrático, promovendo assim igualdade social. Com este trabalho pretende-se desenvolver um sistema de gestão de benefícios sociais, que será um módulo integrante do Sistema de Informação Municipal – SIM, indo desde à definição dos vários processos até a sua finalização, mantendo na base de dados da mesma todas as informações socioeconómicas dos agregados familiares, de modo a zelar pela igualdade social. Todo o sistema foi modelado utilizando o UML (Unified Modeling Language) com extensão web. No desenvolvimento do protótipo foi utilizado um framework que está sendo desenvolvido pela equipa da Divisão de Informática da CMSV – DICMSV e com a utilização deste framework que possui um gerador de código, ferramenta esta que é capaz de realizar funcionalidades eficientes e eficazes das aplicações que facilitam na programação em linguagem Oracle PL/SQL Web e JavaScript e, ainda as linguagens de formatação HTML5 e CSS3, linguagens que fazem parte do desenvolvimento do projeto

Insights into learning profiles and learning outcomes within introductory accounting

"Annual Conference of the British Accounting and Finance Association’s Special Interest Group on Accounting Education (AESIG)"This paper reports an empirical study aiming to explore aspects of learning and studying introductory accounting in Portuguese higher education. It specifically provides insight into patterns of learning and learning outcomes. To do so, it draws on qualitative data collected from students’ answers to a semi-structured interview about their learning experiences, particularly within introductory accounting. In addition, it examines students’ learning outcomes related to several accounting concepts. The findings suggest a pattern of poor learning outcomes and surface or dissonant learning profiles. Barn swallows' diet in the montado

As aves são um grupo importante no equilíbrio dos ecossistemas devido aos serviços que proporcionam. A andorinha-das-chaminés é uma ave insectívora geralmente associada a actividades humanas, com a sua dieta baseada em estádios voadores de insectos, principalmente Diptera, Hymenoptera e Coleoptera. Neste estudo, avaliámos a dieta de uma população de andorinha-das-chaminés nidificante num ecossistema seminatural – o montado –, aplicando o método do colar em crias. Avaliámos se existiam diferenças na composição da dieta entre períodos de amostragem ao longo de Abril e Maio de 2012, bem como entre dípteros de diferentes funções ecológicas. Os resultados confirmaram a preferência pelas três ordens insectívoras descritas, com Diptera totalizando 65%. Não foram registadas diferenças na biomassa média consumida entre períodos, idade das crias e funções ecológicas, mostrando um equilíbrio no consumo energético, embora haja consumo de diferentes tipos de presas; Barn swallow’s diet in the montado Abstract: Birds are an important group in the equilibrium of the ecosystems due to the services they provide. The barn swallow is an insectivorous bird generally associated to human activities, with their diet being based on winged life stages of insects, mainly Diptera, Hymenoptera and Coleoptera. We evaluated the diet of a barn swallow population breeding in a semi-natural ecosystem – the montado –, applying the ligature method on nestlings. We evaluated if there were differences in the diet among sampling periods along the months of April and May (2012), as well as among different ecological functions of Diptera. Results confirmed the preference for the three main insect orders, with Diptera reaching 65% of the total. There were no differences in mean biomass consumed throughout periods, nestling’s age and ecological functions, showing equilibrium of the energetic intake despite the different types of prey consumed

Práticas de b-learning no ensino superior : a avaliação do curso de Mestrado em Ciências da Educação : tecnologia educativa na perspectiva dos alunos

Partindo de reflexões sobre a necessidade de avaliar cursos e programas de inovação na formação, este texto foca-se nos aspetos referentes às perceções e opiniões dos estudantes relativamente ao modelo de organização e diversos outros aspetos da implementação da edição de 2009/10 do Mestrado em Ciências da Educação na especialidade de Tecnologia Educativa (MCETE), identificados através de um inquérito por questionário online. De entre as conclusões destaca-se o facto dos dados recolhidos apontarem no sentido (i) da adequabilidade da modalidade de blearning aos estudantes em causa; (ii) da consciência dos estudantes sobre a importância de características pessoais para se ser bem sucedido em cursos desta natureza; e da (ii) necessidade de rever alguns aspectos da forma de organização do curso.Taking into account the need of evaluating courses and programs for innovation in education, this text focuses on the students´ perceptions and opinions regarding the new organization and some other aspects of the 2009/10 edition of a Master degree in Educational Sciences, Educational Technology area, identified through an online questionnaire.
