Impact of Coulomb interaction and Kondo effect on transport in quantum dots
We examine the impact of Coulomb electron-electron interaction on transport
in a junction with a quantum dot described by Kondo Hamiltonian. We analyze the
Fermi liquid regime and consider the limit of zero temperature. With the help
of Keldysh technique we calculate the non-linear current and shot noise as a
function of applied voltage. We show that Coulomb interaction markable
influences the universal effective charge of current-carrying particles e*=5/3e
which can be measured in shot-noise experiments. The electron-electron
interaction modifies this universal value by a factor (e*=5/3eF) which is less
then one and also voltage dependent.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Revised version with added calculations of shot
noise and effectve charge. Complete 1/N expansion is presente

Informality, Trade Policies And Smuggling In West Africa
In West Africa, recorded intra-regional trade is small but informal cross-border trade (ICBT) is pervasive, despite regional integration schemes intended to promote official trade. We argue that ICBT must be understood in light of two features of West African national boundaries: divergent economic policies between neighboring countries and the ease with which informal operators can ship goods across borders. We focus on two ICBT clusters: Senegal–The Gambia and Nigeria–Benin–Togo. Nigeria and Senegal have protected their domestic industries with high import barriers, whereas Benin, Togo and The Gambia have maintained lower import taxation. These differential trade policies, together with high mobility of goods and people across borders, lead to widespread smuggling, with goods imported legally in low-tax countries and re-exported unofficially to countries with higher import duties
High-order current correlation functions in Kondo systems
We examine the statistics of current fluctuations in a junction with a
quantum dot described by Kondo Hamiltonian. With the help of modified Keldish
technique we calculate the third current cumulant. As a function of ratio
the 3rd cumulant was obtained for three different regimes: Fermi
liquid regime (v>1). Unlike
the case of noninteracting dot, 3rd cumulant shows strong non-linear voltage
dependence. Only in the asymptotical limit of large voltages the linear
dependence on is recovered.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figure
Waste streams in a typical crewed space habitat: An update
A compilation of generation rates and chemical compositions of potential waste streams in a typical crewed space habitat, reported in a prior NASA Technical Memorandum and a related journal article, was updated. This report augments that compilation by the inclusion of the following new data: those data uncovered since completion of the prior report; those obtained from Soviet literature relevant to life support issues; and those for various minor human body wastes not presented previously (saliva, flatus, hair, finger- and toenails, dried skin and skin secretions, tears, and semen), but included here for purposes of completeness. These waste streams complement those discussed previously: toilet waste (urine, feces, etc.), hygiene water (laundry, shower/handwash, dishwasher water and cleansing agents), trash, humidity condensate, perspiration and respiration water, trace contaminants, and dust generation. This report also reproduces the latest information on the environmental control and life support system design parameters for Space Station Freedom
Photosensitized oxidation of unsaturated polymers
The photosensitized oxidation or singlet oxygenation of unsaturated hydrocarbon polymers and of their model compounds was reviewed. Emphasis was on cis and trans forms of 1,4-polyisoprene, 1,4-polybutadiene and 1,2-poly(1,4-hexadiene), and on 1,4-poly(2,3-dimethyl-1,3-butadiene). The microstructural changes which occur in these polymers on reaction with O2-1 in solution were investigated by infrared H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopy. The polymers were shown to yield allylic hydroperoxides with shifted double bonds according to the ene mechanism established for simple olefins. The photosensitized oxidation of the above unsaturated polymer exhibited zero order kinetics, the relative rates paralleling the reactivities of the corresponding simple olefins towards O2-1
Comments on "Limits on possible new nucleon monopole-dipole interactions from the spin relaxation rate of polarized He gas"
In the article "Limits on possible new nucleon monopole-dipole interactions
from the spin relaxation rate of polarized He gas", new limits on
short-range, Axion-like interactions are presented. In this comment it is shown
that the theoretical treatement of the data overestimates the sensitivity of
the proposed method. We provide the corrected limits
