    Dermatomycosis in Cutaneous Tumors is a Predictor for Non-malignancy: A Cross-sectional Study

    The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of spores and/or hyphae in benign cutaneous tumors (CT) and compare their presence in malignant cutaneous tumors. In this cross-sectional study we evaluated 328 CTs positive for spores and/or hyphae. The results show that the greatest number of involved CTs which contained spores and/or hyphae were found in compound nevi 181 (55.18%) and seborrheic warts 61 (18.60%). No spores and/or hyphae were observed in the melanoma samples, and a very low prevalence was found in squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) (2; 0.61%) and basal cell carcinoma (BCC) (1; 0.30%). The presence of spores and/or hyphae could be a good indicator for non-malignancy, allowing differential diagnosis between benign CTs and SCCs or BCCs as well as between melanoma and nevi

    Risk Identification and Prioritization in Public-Private Partnership Water Transfer Projects (Case Study: Water Transfer Project to Safadasht Lands)

    In the face of growing water demand and insufficient public budgets in developing countries, public-private partnerships play an important role in infrastructure development, such as water supply and transmission. However, carrying out such projects always carries with it many and varied risks that threaten the success of such projects. Due to the research gap on risk identification and assessment in the context of public-private partnership water transfer projects, the purpose of the present research is to identify and prioritize the risks in Safadasht public-private partnership water transfer project. The first phase of the present research identifies the risks of public-private partnership projects. At this stage of the research, through the brainstorming method, an attempt was made to identify the risks related to the project under study. In the second stage, three research criteria including "probability of occurrence", "cost effect" and "time effect" were weighed using the best-worst method. The third stage, which was the final stage of the research, was dedicated to prioritizing the risks identified in the first stage using the simple additive weighting technique. Based on the analyzes performed, respectively, changes in legal conditions and standards by the government, sudden changes in bank interest rates, severe climate change, damage to the investor's manpower and improper performance of the investor project factors were identified as the most important risks. Finally, while pointing out the limitations of the research, some suggestions for future studies were presented

    Emerging drugs for the treatment of vitiligo

    Introduction: Vitiligo is a relatively common autoimmune depigmenting disorder of the skin. There has been a great advance in understanding the pathological basis, which has led to the development and utilization of various new molecules in treating vitiligo. This review aims at a comprehensively describing the treatments available and the emerging treatment aspects and the scope for future developments. Areas covered: This study comprehensively summarizes the current concepts in the pathogenesis of vitiligo with special focus on the cytokine and signaling pathways, which are the targets for newer drugs. JAK kinase signaling pathways and the cytokines involved are the focus of vitiligo treatment in current research, followed by antioxidant mechanisms and repigmenting mechanisms. Topical immunosuppressants may be an alternative to steroids in localized vitiligo. Newer repigmenting agents like basic fibroblast growth factors, afamelanotide have been included and a special emphasis is laid on the upcoming targeted immunotherapy. Expert opinion: The treatment of vitiligo needs to be multimodal with emphasis on targeting different limbs of the pathogenesis. Topical and oral JAK inhibitors are the most promising new class of drugs currently available for treating vitiligo and acts best in conjunction with NB-UVB

    Laser in surgical scar clearance: An update review.

    AbstractScar formation is a consequence of wound healing that developed from damaged tissue either from physical injury or surgical incision. A hypertrophic scar develops due to an abnormal healing response to trauma. It might lead to serious functional and cosmetic disability. There are numerous methods mentioned in the literature to treat such scars but to date, no single method has been known to cure them. In this review, we focused on differences between various types of nonsurgical management of hypertrophic scar focusing on the indication, mechanism of action, and efficacy of the pulsed dye laser (PDL), fractional carbon dioxide laser (fCO2), Er‐YAG laser, and intense pulse light (IPL). The literature research included peer‐reviewed articles (clinical trials or scientific reviews) which were identified by searching electronic databases like PubMed till January 2021 and reference lists of respective articles.     Psychological Impact of Melanoma, How to Detect, Support and Help

    Incidence of melanoma is increasing every year. A few years ago, we could not speak about long term survivors with melanoma. Chemotherapy did not give a good effect in the past. Metastasis occurred very rapidly, and the progression of melanoma was very fast. But now, with new forms of therapy, especially immunotherapy and target therapy, for the first time, we have long-time survivors. For the prognosis of melanoma, the most important is the stage in which melanoma is detected. For all dermatologists, it is very important to be aware of the psychological impact of melanoma on patients. Dermatologists should recognise psychological disorders. Several different scales can be used for the detection of depression and anxiety – some of them are completed by researchers, some of them are completed by patients, and also, we have combined scales. The need for adequate social and family support as well as psychological help to achieve better coping with illness is necessary. Learning techniques to overcome fear and stress would help in better functioning of all affected, regardless of the stage of the disease. The most severe cases of anxiety and depression, in addition to psychotherapeutic interventions, should also be considered medication therapy

    Light-based devices for the treatment of facial erythema and telangiectasia

    Facial erythema is one of the most common outpatient complaints in dermatology. There are various causes of facial erythema and several devices are available for its treatment. Pulsed dye laser (PDL) and intense pulsed light (IPL) are the two common light devices used for these conditions. In this review, we evaluated the literature to assess efficacy of IPL versus PDL in facial erythema and telangiectasia. We searched published articles including clinical trials or reviews articles, case series, and case reports. Electronic databases (MEDLINE and PubMed) were searched to retrieve the articles. Reference lists of selected articles were also considered for the review. Articles published in English language until June 2021 were considered for this review
