    Supra-ethnic identity as a point de capiton of multi-ethnic societies

    V besedilu bom razpravljala o nadetnični identiteti kot točki prešitja (point de capiton) multietničnih družb. Temeljna hipoteza moje analize bo, da ima multietnična identiteta kot točka prešitja temeljno politično in socialno funkcijo v integraciji multietničnih družb. Predstavila bom osnovni teoretični model, ki kaže, kako multietnična identiteta integrira različne etnične skupine v multietničnih družbah v "nadetnično skupino", ki je politični subjekt multietničnih družb. Predstavila bom tudi nekatere vidike odnosov med etničnimi identitetami in nadetnično identiteto ter pokazala, kako posamezniki v multietničnih družbah sinhronizirajo etnično in nadetnično identiteto in kako se skozi takšno sinhronizacijo lahko nevtralizirajo konflikti med različnimi etničnimi skupinami in določeni družbi. V besedilu bom uporabila empirični material iz nekdanje Jugoslavije.In my text I discuss a supra-ethnic identity as a point de capiton of multiethnic societies. My hypothesis is that a supra-ethnical identity as a point de capiton plays a fundamental political role in the social and political integration of multiethnic societies. I present a basic theoretical model which shows how a supra-ethnic identity integrates different ethnic groups in a multiethnic society into a "supra-ethnic group", which is the political subject in multiethnic societies. Some aspects of the relationship between ethnic identities and a supra-ethnic identity will be discussed to show how individuals in such situations synchronise their ethnic and supra-ethnic identities and how through such a synchronisation conflicts between different ethnic groups in a specific society can be neutralised. I use in my text empirical materials from ex-Yugoslavia

    Besedilo primerja dva različna načina uporabe koncepta "čista havajska kri" v današnji havajski družbi: prvi je utemeljen na Hawaiian Homes Commission Act in ga uveljavlja havajska država, drugega prakticirajo havajski staroselci. Pokazala bom, kako sta ti rabi istega koncepta povezani z dvema skupinama različnih, celo izključujočih se družbenih in političnih praks: najprej s praksami segregacije in asimilacije, ki jih nad havajskimi staroselci izvaja današnja havajska država, in drugič s praksami revitalizacije in emancipacije, ki jih prakticirajo havajski staroselci. V besedilu so uporabljeni empirični podatki, ki jih je avtorica zbrala pri terenskem delu na Havajih.The article compares two different uses of the concept of "pure Hawaiian blood" in contemporary Hawaiian society: one based on the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act and practiced by the contemporary Hawaiian stateand the second one practiced by the Hawaiian native population not only in contemporary Hawaiian society, but also among various groups of Hawaiian native population in the USA. I will demonstrate that these two uses of the same concept are connected with two different, incompatible social and political practices. The first is a practice of segregation and assimilation, implemented by the Hawaiian state. The second practice is one of revitalization and emancipation, which is observed by Hawaiian natives. In this study I will use data collected during my field work on Hawaiʼi (January 2003-December 2003)
