Iron Losses Prediction with PWM Supply Using Low and High Frequency Measurements: Analysis and Results Comparison

    Get PDF
In this paper, two different methods for iron loss prediction are analyzed. The first method is based on the classical separation of loss contributions (hysteresis, eddy-current, and excess losses). The model requires loss contribution separation using iron loss measurements with sinusoidal supply. In this paper, this method will be called the ldquolow-frequency method.rdquo The second method, named the ldquohigh-frequency method, rdquo is based on the assumption that, under pulsewidth modulation supply, the higher order flux density harmonics do not influence the magnetic work conditions. These magnetic conditions depend only on the amplitude of the fundamental harmonic of the flux density. In this paper, both the proposed methodologies and the related measurements are described in detail, and the obtained results are compared with the experimental ones. The experimental results show that both methods allow getting excellent results. The high-frequency method is better than the lower one but requires a more complex test bench. Depending on the accuracy required by the user, the more handy method can be chosen, with the guarantee that the estimation errors will be lower than 5

Fertility-conserving therapy in cervical cancer patients

Abstract Treatment of the cervical cancer patients, especially young women, is a very important clinical problem. This is related to the standard treatment methods, used in this malignancy, and the treatment complications. In most patients, the oncological treatment, be it surgery or radiotherapy, results in gonadal dysfunction with unavoidable loss of the ability to procreate. As cervical cancer affects mostly young women, fertility preserving treatment remains a considerable challenge. Due to the fact that the recent decade has brought significant progress in the diagnosis of prognostically important features characterizing the tumor biology, their precise determination enables specialists to detect a subpopulation of patients with malignancies, who do not require the total resection of the uterus and ovaries. Currently, in such cases, fertility-sparing surgery is considered in every young woman with early cervical cancer, who wishes to preserve the reproductive function. The aim of the paper is to revive the current opinions concerning fertility sparing treatment options in gynecological malignancies

The effect of visitors on the properties of vegetation of calcareous grasslands in the context of width and distances from tourist trails

Over the last decades, valuable natural areas considered as zones of silence and rest have been increasingly struggling with the problem of mass tourism. In this study, an investigation of the effect of visitors on the properties of vegetation of calcareous grasslands in the context of width and distances from tourist trails is performed. The study was conducted in seven localities in Cracow (southern Poland) involving calcareous grasslands impacted by tourist trails. The results show that the lower height of plants, the greater number of species and the greater percentage of plant cover damaged by trampling in plots located close to the edge of tourist trails, as well as lower total plant cover and greater mean cover-abundance degree per species along narrow pathways. The dominance of meadow and grassland species, as well as the prevalence of native species, suggests that the composition of the examined vegetation has not been drastically changed. In the majority of the study plots, the dominance of hemicryptophytes and chamaephytes, inconsiderable share of phanerophytes and therophytes, as well as the low share of geophytes, were observed. The infrequent occurrence of species presenting Bidens dispersal type along narrow pathways, as well as in plots located close to the edge of tourist trails, suggests low external transport of epizoochorous seeds by passing people, while the prevalence of species presenting Cornus type in plots located away from the edge of tourist trails might be the effect of dung deposition by animals

Lower Austria is a federated state, internally very diverse in terms of tourist attraction and suitability for various forms of tourism. Through various activities, it strives to achieve success on the tourist market, changing the stereotype of tourist’s Austria perception as a country of mountains and large cities. The aim of this study is to show that even small towns, for example Eggenburg, can in the future achieve success on the tourist market and create regional tourism products, when their development is based on cooperation, consistent vision of development and well-thought-out strategy. The study is empirical, based on available statistical data, and it also includes information from development strategies. The analysis conducted in the study showed that small towns appropriately managing the tourism, promoting it on the basis of individual potential and identifying their products, can be competitive on the tourist market.W turystyce obecnie dominuje rynek nabywcy, zróżnicowane są potrzeby, motywacje i aktywność turystyczna, wzrasta samodzielność turystów w wyborze programów i ich realizacja, spada znaczenie pośredników, a usługi kupowane są bezpośrednio u producentów.

Non-Invasive Measurements and FEM Analyses for Estimating the Rotor Bar-Lamination Contact Resistance

This research work investigates the phenomenon of interbar currents in induction motors equipped with die-cast alu- minum cages. Flowing in the lamination and distorting the bar current distributions, the interbar currents cause additional stray losses as well as an increase of the joule loss in the cage bars. The contact resistance between the bars and the rotor lamina- tions is the key modeling element for a correct prediction of the interbar currents and the related extra losses. The study presents a new noninvasive method to obtain a reliable estimation of the contact resistance. The proposed hybrid approach is based on a mix of experimental data and Finite Element method (FEM)-based simulation results. A reliable three-dimensional FEM model of a four-pole 15-kW induction motor with closed rotor slots has been used to investigate the impact of variable contact resistance on the interbar currents, rotor joule losses, and the voltage drops along the bars, opening a new perspective for this complex phenomenon and its impact on the stray losses. Finally, the proposed methodologies are critically discussed and the obtained results compared with other relevant research works

Measurement of the W boson helicity in top quark decays

    Get PDF
A measurement of the fraction, f{sup +}, of right-handed W bosons produced in top quark decays is presented. This analysis is based on a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 370 pb{sup -1}, collected by the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p{bar p} Collider at {radical}s = 1.96 TeV. The helicity angle, {theta}*, is reconstructed for each lepton. f{sup +} is determined by comparing the cos {theta}* distribution from the data with that for the expected background and signal for various values of f{sup +}. The fraction of longitudinal W bosons, f{sup 0}, is assumed to be 0.7 as predicted by the standard model. This yields f{sup +} = 0.109 {+-} 0.094 (stat) {+-} 0.063 (syst), consistent with the standard model prediction of f{sup +} = 3.6x 10{sup -4}. The possibility that both f{sup +} and f{sup 0} stray from standard model values is also investigated. In this case cos {theta}* distributions for each possible W helicity state, along with the backgrounds, are fit to the cos {theta}* distribution for the data. The best fit values are f{sup +} = 0.82 {+-} 0.30(stat) and f{sup 0} = -0.58 {+-} 0.50(stat)
