The SunPy Project: Open Source Development and Status of the Version 1.0 Core Package

The goal of the SunPy project is to facilitate and promote the use and development of community-led, free, and open source data analysis software for solar physics based on the scientific Python environment. The project achieves this goal by developing and maintaining the sunpy core package and supporting an ecosystem of affiliated packages. This paper describes the first official stable release (version 1.0) of the core package, as well as the project organization and infrastructure. This paper concludes with a discussion of the future of the SunPy project

Examination of the Nitric Oxide Production-Suppressing Component in Tinospora tuberculata

The component of aqueous Tinospora tuberculata extract that inhibits nitric oxide (NO) production was examined using macrophages activated by the addition of lipopolysaccharide. The aqueous extract was partitioned with ethyl acetate. The aqueous layer was fractionated with a Diaion column. The residue of the aqueous extract was extracted with methanol, and partitioned with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was found to be associated with a distinct decrease in the NO level and inducible NO synthase. On further fractionation, the subfraction of E-3 showed high anti-NO activity. N-trans-Feruloyltyramine isolated from E-3 was identified as exhibiting strong anti-NO activity. This compound is the most active component of Tinospora tuberculata with respect to the suppression of NO production

Charakterystyka rynkowego segmentu suchych karm pełnoporcjowych dla psów pod względem poziomu deoksyniwalenolu i zearalenonu

A survey of Deoxynivalenol and Zearalenone content in commercial dry foods for growing dogs. The Polish market of commercial dry dog food for growing dogs of small breeds was surveyed for the presence of DON and ZEN with its metabolites α- and β-zearalenol (α-, β-ZOL). LC/ /MS method was applied for 6 randomly selected foods. The low levels of toxins found, gives overall picture of the safe segment of the market. The content of masked α-zearalenol, however, from the perspective of long term consumption of small amounts may pose a health risk for the reproductive system of bitches.Charakterystyka rynkowego segmentu suchych karm pełnoporcjowych dla psów pod względem poziomu deoksyniwalenolu i zearalenonu. W reprezentatywnej próbie 6 losowo wybranych produktów, należących do rynkowego segmentu suchych karm pełnoporcjowych dla psów rosnących, oznaczono poziom deoksyniwalenolu i zearalenonu wraz z jego metabolitami (α-, β-zearalenolem), z wykorzystaniem metody LC/ /MS. Uzyskane wyniki wskazują na stosunkowo niski poziom oznaczanych mykotoksyn w ocenianych karmach. Istotne wydaje się zwrócenie uwagi na poziom α-zearalenolu (zaliczanego do tzw. toksyn ukrytych, po ang. masked toxins), który w kontekście długotrwałego przyjmowania z karmą może stwarzać potencjalne zagrożenie dla rozwoju układu rozrodczego młodych suk

Determination of sperm acrosin activity in the arctic fox (Alopex lagopus L.) – using method developed for human spermatozoa

The aim of the study was to adapt a method to determine acrosin activity of human spermatozoa to arctic fox (Alopex lagopus L.) spermatozoa. We modified this method by reducing sperm count per sample from 1÷10 × 106 to 25÷200 × 103, incubation time from 180 minutes to 60 minutes, and Triton X-100 concentration in the reaction mixture from 0.01% to 0.005% per 100 cm3. It has also confirmed that arctic fox seminal plasma is rich in proteinases and their inhibitors. To completely abolish the inhibitory effect of seminal plasma on acrosin activity it is recommended to wash the spermatozoa four times. Benzamidine served an inhibitor of acrosin activity

Wpływ dodatku tłuszczu na strawność paszy u szynszyli

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of the inclusion of the vegetal and animal fat to the diet on the apparent digestibility in chinchillas. 18 young chinchillas were assigned to three groups and fed control diet or with the addition of either linseed (VF) or lard (AF). The apparent digestibility coefficient (ADC) was calculated for dry matter (DM), organic matter (OM), crude protein (CP), crude fibre (CF), nitrogen free extract (NFE) and ether extract (EE). The results showed that there was no significant effects of fat addition on most of the studied constituents except for increased digestibility of EE.Wpływ dodatku tłuszczu na strawność paszy u szynszyli. Celem badań było określenie wpływu dodatku tłuszczu roślinnego i zwierzęcego na współczynnik strawności pozornej u szynszyli. 18 młodych osobników przyporządkowano do trzech grup żywieniowych, które otrzymywały paszę podstawową (grupa kontrolna) bądź wzbogaconą o dodatek oleju lnianego (VF) lub łoju (AF). Poziom strawności pozornej (ADC) oznaczono dla suchej masy (DM), materii organicznej (OM), białka surowego (CP), włókna surowego (CF), związków bezazotowych wyciągowych (NFE) oraz ekstraktu eterowego (EE). Porównanie treści etykiet wybranych karm pełnoporcjowych dla psów i kotów w 2011 i 2013 roku

The objective of this study was to compare the content of selected complete dry feed labels for adult, healthy dogs and cats, emphasizing the accordance with the relevant EU requirements which have recently came into force. Additionally, simple calculations of the energy content were made to enhance the characteristics of the products available to the customer. The level of accordance reached in average 87% and 82% in dog and cat food respectively. It should be stated that the improvement of the labels content, as compared with 2011, was not significant. The key elements of the label information were either not improved or decreased (the statement of the necessity of constant access to water or daily dosage per animal). All evaluated products were typical maintenance foods, but their energy density was quite differentiated which may have some deleterious nutritional consequences associated with their long time supply.Celem prezentowanych badań była ocena treści wybranych etykiet pełnoporcjowych suchych karm dla dorosłych, zdrowych psów i kotów, z podkreśleniem zgodności z aktualnymi wymaganiami unijnymi. Średni poziom zgodności wyniósł 87 i 82%, odpowiednio dla psów i kotów. Warto podkreślić, że między 2011 a 2013 rokiem nie nastąpiła istotna poprawa treści etykiet karm. Kluczowe elementy informacyjne etykiet nie zostały poprawione, a nawet uległy pogorszeniu (np. zdanie o konieczności zapewnienia wody pitnej czy informacja o zalecanej dziennej dawce na zwierzę). Wszystkie oceniane produkty należały do grupy typowych karm bytowych, jednak ich gęstość energetyczna była dość zróżnicowana, co w perspektywie ich długookresowego podawania może mieć niekorzystne konsekwencje żywieniowe
