    Level of readiness to become entrepreneurs among lifelong learning programmes participants in Malaysian community colleges

    An entrepreneur needs to be physically and mentally prepared, with creative thinking skills, risk taker attitudes, as well as being a wise decision maker. Individuals aiming to be successful entrepreneurs need to have adequate entrepreneurial readiness with respect to knowledge, interests, motivation and abilities. The purpose of the research is to measure the level of readiness towards becoming entrepreneurs among participants of the lifelong learning programme in Malaysian community colleges. This research focuses on four elements of readiness comprising knowledge, interest, motivation and ability which were measured using a self-perception questionnaire. The sample for this research consisted of 236 participants from 305 students in the Lifelong Learning (LL) programme for Pastry making at Malaysian community colleges under the Ministry of Education. Data were analysed using mean and Kruskal Wallis test. The data analyses results show that the level of readiness from the aspect of knowledge (M = 3.67, SD = 0.58) is moderate, interest (M = 4.13, SD = 0.55) is high, motivation (M = 4.13, SD = 0.55) is high and ability (M = 3.8852, SD = 0.64) is moderate. No difference was found on entrepreneurial readiness between participants of different age groups indicating that age may not be a contributing factor towards entrepreneurship among pastry making LL programme participants

    Orang Asli isknown to have natural skills because they are able to survive by relying on the nature-based nature of the eco-economy where they live. The economic results they get are from forest produce, as well as marine produce. They are skilled in making handicrafts, making plaiting, processing, food hunting and so on. In the beginning they were merely changing items but the longer they were clever in trading activities among local communities and outside communities. This can be seen through the communities that managed to open their own businesses such as Orang Asli in Rengit. They have successfully made this entrepreneurial activity a major quest. These business activities originally from individual engagement have become a business in one community as the number of businesses in this community who sell the same products are growing. The purpose of this paper is to see how the capabilities of the Kuala Orang Orang Asli community in entrepreneurship from the aspects of economics, psychology and sociology

    Engineering Students' Generic Skills After Industrial Training: Employers' Perception

    This study aims to examine the employers' perception on the generic skills of the MTU engineering students after their industrial training. The related generic skills in this study are problem-solving skills, leadership skills, communication skills, management skills, entrepreneurial skills, critical thinking skills, decision making skills, teamwork skills and   interpersonal skill. The sample of this study consists of 144 employers from EEE (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) field industries that has been chosen from whole Malaysia using random sampling. The design of the study uses quantitative survey approach specifically descriptive analysis where data analysis is done in the form of mean, frequencies and percentages. (The results show that employers' perceptions on the level for students' leadership skills is at a moderate low of 2.77.On the other hand, the students' communication skills is at a moderate low level of 2.83, management skills at a moderate high level of 3.34, interpersonal skills at a moderate high level of 3.37, problem-solving skills at a moderate high level of 3.70, critical thinking skills at a moderate high level of 3.47, decision-making skills at moderate high of 4.13 and teamwork skills at moderate high of 3.64 and entrepreneurial skills at moderate low of 2.59. ) Referring to the findings that it can help the university to re-evaluate the industry training curriculum to improve the quality of the student's generic skills. Therefore, it is hoped that these research findings can be used by related authorities (Ministry Higher Education and Industry) to improve the students' overall generic skills and consequently produce quality graduates not only in technical skills but also in generic skills. This findings will be used as a guideline in the improvement of the industry training curriculum by looking at the weakest level of generic skills based on the employer's perception

    Tahap kesediaan peserta Program Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (PSH) dalam kecenderungan menceburi keusahawanan di Kolej Komuniti Negeri Johor

    Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji persepsi peserta program Pembelajaran Sepanjang Hayat (PSH) bidang Pastri terhadap tahap kesediaan dalam kecenderungan menceburi keusahawanan di kolej komuniti negeri Johor. Aspek tahap kesediaan yang di kaji adalah pengetahuan, minat, dorongan dan kebolehan peserta program PSH yang mengunakan persampelan rawak mudah. Sampel kajian ini terdiri daripada 236 responden dari peserta program PSH bidang Pastri. Reka bentuk kajian adalah tinjauan yang mengunakan pendekatan kuantitatif di analisis mengunakan analisis deskriptif dan inferensi di mana analisis data dilakukan dalam bentuk min, frekuensi,peratusan dan mengunakan analisis ujian Kruskal Wallis dan ujian Kolerasi Spearman untuk mencari perbezaan dan hubungan dengan menggunakan perisian SPSS versi 21.0. Soal selidik digunakan sebagai instrumen kajian dengan nilai alpha cronbach adalah 0.93 yang menunjukkan bahawa kebolehpercayaan soal selidik diterima. Hasil dapatan kajian tahap kesedian peserta program PSH untuk pengetahuan keusahawanan berada pada tahap sederhana tinggi iaitu 3.67. Manakala, dari segi kesediaan minat keusahawanan berada pada tahap tinggi iaitu 4.13, kesediaan dorongan keusahawanan berada pada tahap tinggi ialah 4.13 dan kesediaan kebolehan keusahawanan berada pada tahap sederhana tinggi iaitu 3.88. Bagi aspek perbezaan antara tahap kesediaan dengan umur peserta program PSH keputusan menunjukkan bahawa nilai asymp.sig 0.397 lebih daripada 0.05. Maka, keputusan ujian adalah “tidak terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara tahap kesediaan kepada usahawan dengan umur peserta program PSH”. Bagi aspek untuk menentukan hubungan antara kesediaan dan kecenderungan hasil dapatan menunjukkan bahawa hubungan antara kesediaan keusahawanan dengan kecenderungan peserta program PSH dalam menceburi bidang keusahawanan pada aras hubungan sederhana iaitu r: 0.511. Oleh itu, hubungan dikenalpasti adalah“terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara kesediaan keusahawanan dengan kecenderungan”

    Poverty and dependence among indigenous people is an important issue to be abolished or reduced in socio-economic development of indigenous peoples. The indigenous people known as the people who practice conventional lifestyle as subsistence activities and their dependence on government assistance. However, there are people who have managed to improve their living standards through entrepreneurial activity, namely the Orang Kuala in Rengit, Johor, Malaysia. The Kuala people have shown a good community development to be emulated by other indigenous peoples. They have sought to make their business known to the outside community until they have been recognized by the government as a community of entrepreneurship-based businesses. The purpose of this paper is to see how the process of Orang Asli community's ability to improve the socio-economic development of their communities. The design of this study is case study through semi-structured interviews with 15 participants who are involved in entrepreneurship of selling used goods. All the interview transcripts will be undergo NVIVO 11 to find out the process that they have been through. This study suggested that there are three phases in the change process of the Orang Kuala’s entrepreneurship. The findings of this research hoped that it will help others towards development of Orang Asli’s economy

Findings reveal that the level of readiness of LLL program participants in entrepreneurial knowledge was at moderate level with mean value is 3.6. Meanwhile, readiness level of LLL program participants in terms of entrepreneurial interest was at high level with mean value is 4.1. Readiness in terms of entrepreneurial motivation was at a high level with mean value is 4.2. While readiness in terms of entrepreneurial abilities was moderately high level with mean value is 3.8. Thus, the researchers hope that the results obtained can be exploited by certain parties in order to improve the readiness of lifelong learning program participants in entrepreneurship, thereby producing quality entrepreneurs who can create more jobs to reduce the problem of unemployment in Malaysia
