In Azerbaijan, development of landslide hazard areas is occurring at a greater rate than in previous years. Mass movements (landslides, Mass wasting) may take place suddenly and catastrophically, resulting in debris and snow avalanches, lahars, rock falls, flows (debris, quick clay, loess and dry or wet sand and silt) .The region under survey is located in a valley named “ILANJIG”. Its slope is about 30 to 40 percent and the main road of Tabriz- Sarab- Ardebil is routed across this valley. This valley is a Fault Valley and residual signs of old landslides can be observed along the valley. Construction of Tabriz- Ardebil main road was started in 1991 and completed in 1997. Because of poor design of the road, and due to continuous penetration of rain and water from melted snow into the mass clay layers and its volume swelling, shear strength of clay decreased and heavy loads from upper volcanic rock blocks lead to sudden fracture and resulted in a huge landslide. Approximate volume of main landslide was [1.6x106]/0.2[m3/km2]. Landslides are the most predictable geological hazards, among other natural hazards

Background: The essential oil of Achillea wilhelmsii has‎ anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Cisplatin is one of the most important anticancer drugs that are widely used to treat various types of cancers. This study aimed at examining the effects of the essential oil of A. wilhelmsii flowers on cisplatin-induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Materials and Methods: In this study, 36 male Wistar rats weighing 200-250 g were divided into 6 groups: 1) control, 2) cisplatin (0.4 mg/kg), 3) cisplatin and essential oil (30 mg/kg), 4) cisplatin and essential oil (60 mg/kg), 5) essential oil (30 mg/kg) and 6) essential oil (60 mg/kg).The injection was performed in the groups every day for 8 weeks. Then, serum levels of liver enzymes were measured and the liver tissue was removed for histopathological studies. Results: The results showed no significant changes in the albumin level (P>0.05). However, the activities of hepatic factors ALT, AST, ALP and bilirubin were decreased significantly in the groups received essential oil 30 and 60 mg/kg + cisplatin and in groups only received the essential oil 30 and 60 mg/kg compared to the cisplatin group (P<0.05). Histopathological analysis of liver showed a significant difference in all groups compared to the control group, which this difference in the group received essential oil 60 mg/kg + cisplatin was higher than other groups. Conclusion: The essential oil of A. wilhelmsii decreases serum levels of liver factors and bilirubin against cisplatin

Suicide Prevention and Follow-Up Services: A Narrative Review

Previous suicide attempt is the most important predictor of death by suicide. Thus preventive interventions after attempting to suicide is essential to prevent reattempts. This paper attempts to determine whether phone preventive interventions or other vehicles (postal cards, email and case management) are effective in reattempt prevention and health promotion after discharge by providing an overview of studies on suicide reattempts. The research investigated in this review conducted from 1995 to 2014. A total of 26 cases related to the aim of this research were derived from 36 English articles with the aforementioned keywords Research shows that providing comprehensive aids, social support, and follow-up after discharge can significantly prevent suicide reattempts. Several studies showed that follow-up support (phone calls, crisis cards, mails, postal cards.) after discharge can significantly decrease the risk of suicide. More randomized controlled trials (RCT) are required to determine what factors of follow-up are more effective than other methods

Alcohol Abuse and Suicide Attempt in Iran: A Case-Crossover Study

Alcohol use and its disorders are associated with increased risk of suicidal behaviors Research has shown that 6-8 of those who use alcohol have a history of suicide attempt. Given the prohibition of alcohol use legally, the increased alcohol consumption, and the lack of strong evidence in favor of its use associated with suicide in Iran, this study was conducted to determine the link between suicide attempt and alcohol abuse. The case-crossover method was used in this research. Out of 305 referrals to the emergency room due to a suicide attempt, 100 reported drinking alcohol up to six hours before their attempt. Paired Matching and Usual Frequency were employed to analyze the data with STATA 12.0. The probability of attempting suicide up to six hours after drinking alcohol appeared increased by 27 times (95 CI: 8.1-60.4). Separate analysis for each of these hours from the first to the sixth hour after alcohol use was also performed. Fifty percent of attempted suicides happened one hour after alcohol use. Relative risk for the first and second hour was 10 and 5 respectively. Alcohol use is a strong proximal risk factor for attempted suicide among Iranian subjects. Prevention of alcohol use should be considered in setting up of the national Suicide attempt prevention program

Plasma neurofilament light chain in association to late-life depression in the general population

Aim:Investigating what is underlying late-life depression is becoming increasingly important with the rapidly growing elderly population. Yet, the associations between plasma biomarkers of neuroaxonal damage and late-life depression remain largely unclear. Therefore, we determined cross-sectional and longitudinal associations of neurofilament light chain (NfL) with depression in middle-aged and elderly individuals, and total tau, β-amyloid 40 and 42 for comparison. Methods:We included 3,895 participants (71.78 years [SD = 7.37], 53.4% women) from the population-based Rotterdam Study. Between 2002 and 2005, NfL, total tau, β-amyloid 40 and β-amyloid 42 were determined in blood and depressive symptoms were measured with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression scale (CES-D). Incident depressive events (clinically relevant depressive symptoms, depressive syndromes, major depressive disorders) were measured prospectively with the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression, a clinical interview and follow-up of medical records over a median follow-up of 7.0 years (interquartile range 1.80). We used linear and Cox proportional hazard regression models. Results: Each log2 pg./mL increase in NfL was cross-sectionally associated with more depressive symptoms (adjusted mean difference: 0.32, 95% CI 0.05–0.58), as well as with an increased risk of any incident depressive event over time (hazard ratio: 1.22, 95% CI 1.01–1.47). Further, more amyloid-β 40 was cross-sectionally associated with more depressive symptoms (adjusted mean difference: 0.70, 95% CI 0.15–1.25). Conclusion: Higher levels of NfL are cross-sectionally associated with more depressive symptoms and a higher risk of incident depressive events longitudinally. The association was stronger for NfL compared to other plasma biomarkers, suggesting a potential role of neuroaxonal damage in developing late-life depression.</p
