Radial Velocities and Pulsation Ephemerides of 11 Field RR Lyrae Stars

We present new radial velocities, improved pulsation periods and reference epoch s of 11 field RR Lyrae ab-type variables: AS Vir, BS Aps, CD Vel, DT Hya, RV Oct, TY Gru, UV Oct, V1645 Sgr, WY Ant, XZ Aps and Z Mic. This study is based on high resolution spectra obtained with the echelle spectro graph of the 2.5-m du Pont telescope at Las Campanas Observatory. We obtained ~200 spectra per star (i.e, total of ~2300 spectra) distributed more or less uniformly throughout their pulsation cycles. Radial velocity curves and photometric lightcurves phased to our new ephemerides are presented for all program stars. In a subsequent paper, we will use these spectra to derive stellar atmospheric parameters and chemical compositions throughout the pulsational cycles, based purely on spectroscopic constraints.Comment: 28 pages, 14 figures, 5 tables. New Mexico\u27s Right to Know: The Potential for Groundwater Contaminants from LANL to Reach the Rio Grande

    Get PDF
This report addresses two questions: 1. Is it possible for groundwater to transport contaminants from LANL to the Rio Grande during the 61 years LANL has existed? 2. If so, have contaminants from LANL reached the Rio Grande? The answer to the first question is yes. Contaminants traveling along fast flow paths may reach the Rio Grande in less than 61 years. The answer to the second question is also yes. LANL-derived contaminants have been detected in springs along the Rio Grande. High explosives have been found in Ancho Spring and Spring 6 and perchlorate has been found in Springs 4 and 4C. This research was completed money allocated during Round 4 of the Citizens’ Monitoring and Technical Assessment Fund (MTA Fund). Clark University was named conservator of these works. On Thursday, October 15, 2015 the Senator George J. Mitchell Center for Sustainability Solutions will host the 2015 Senator George J. Mitchell Lecture on Sustainability. This event is free and open to all. It will take place at 1pm at Wells Conference Center on the University of Maine campus. Roger A. Pielke, Jr., a key thought leader on effective roles for scientists in political debates and the formulation of public policy, will be the keynote speaker. Senator Mitchell will provide remarks. The central mission of the Mitchell Center is to serve as a leader and valued partner in understanding and solving societal problems related to the growing challenge of improving human well-being while protecting the environment. Our vision for the Mitchell Lecture on Sustainability is to bring together people from across Maine who seek better ways to connect knowledge with action to create a brighter environmental, social, and economic future
