O acervo das antigas Províncias Ultramarinas Portuguesas, organizado em colecções, faz pare do património histórico do LNEG, preservado por constituir um recurso de conhecimento e de divulgação da nossa História Geológica e Mineira no contexto da colonização. A melhoria das condições de conservação e acessibilidade, trabalho ainda em decurso, permitiu obter uma visão abrangente destas colecções, facilitando o trabalho de enriquecimento e caracterização histórica, patrimonial e científicadas mesmas

Conductivity cell for water quality monitoring

The measurement of electrolytic conductivity is widely applied as a control parameter and its relevance is continously increasing, not only in industrial applications but also in the environmental monitoring domain. In this work the attention is focused on the electrical behaviour of a low cost in-situ four electrode conductivity sensor for water quality monitoring in estuaries and oceans. The design of the sensor, the method used to determine the conductivity value, the circuit developed for signal conditioning and the data acquisition board that links the sensor to the computer for further signal processing are described in detail. The output values of the conditioning circuit are stored in the computer and compared with more accurate conductivity values obtained from commercial equipment. In order to obtain more accurate results algorithms for digital signal processing have been presented and implemented.Peer Reviewe

Social media: the new tool in firms’ marketing strategies

In this work project we discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media as a marketing tool. Four international cases were analyzed to provide anecdotal evidence of how social and viral marketing have been used by four firms in very different industries. We reviewed empirical evidence on the topic to discuss the main components of viral marketing. We concluded that positive (electronic) word of mouth, short response time and seeding through high network value customers are the main drivers of the success of a viral marketing campaign. We also conducted a study of the Portuguese telecommunications industry, in particular, the mobile segment. We found that the three main players operating in this market have been using social media successfully as a marketing tool in a strategic approach to the 14-25 years old segment.NSBE - UN

Elementos de jazz na música contemporânea para saxofone

Desde o aparecimento do Jazz que alguns compositores de música erudita o procuram para poderem acrescentar algo mais à sua música. O saxofone, com raízes sólidas no Jazz, é um instrumento apetecível para ser um legítimo representante dessa linguagem. Este trabalho tenta reconhecer quais são os elementos desta linguagem no espectro sonoro que fazem com que o ouvinte os entenda como tais. Para isso são estudadas as suas origens, as suas mutações e a sua afirmação no Jazz. No estudo de casos práticos, analisam-se quatro peças do repertório solístico para saxofone de vários períodos e de compositores. Muczynski, americano filho de pais judeus; Denisov, compositor russo emigrado para França; Schulhoff, judeu alemão vítima do Terceiro Reich; Bonneau, compositor francês com ligações fortes aos media. Todos eles utilizaram alguns dos recursos disponibilizados pelo jazz, quer sejam de harmonia, melodia, ritmo ou outros. No entanto, nem sempre estes elementos são óbvios, já que muitos deles têm também origens na música erudita; ### ABSTRACT: Elements of Jazz in Contemporary Music for Saxophone Since the appearance of jazz, some composers of classical music seek it in order to add something more to his music. The saxophone, with solid roots in jazz, is an attractive instrument to be a legitimate representative of this language. This work attempts to recognize what are the elements of this language in the sound spectrum that cause the listener to understand them as such of Jazz. For this study are its origins, its mutations and its assertion in Jazz. In the study of practical cases, we analyze four pieces of the solo repertoire for saxophone for various periods and composers. Muczynski, American and son of Jewish parents; Denisov, Russian composer who emigrated to France; Schulhoff, a German Jew victim of the Third Reich; Bonneau, French composer with strong ties to the media. They all used some of the resources provided by jazz, whether of harmony, melody, rhythm or other. However, these elements are not always obvious, since many of them also have roots in classical music
