2022 Roadmap on integrated quantum photonics

    Get PDF
AbstractIntegrated photonics will play a key role in quantum systems as they grow from few-qubit prototypes to tens of thousands of qubits. The underlying optical quantum technologies can only be realized through the integration of these components onto quantum photonic integrated circuits (QPICs) with accompanying electronics. In the last decade, remarkable advances in quantum photonic integration have enabled table-top experiments to be scaled down to prototype chips with improvements in efficiency, robustness, and key performance metrics. These advances have enabled integrated quantum photonic technologies combining up to 650 optical and electrical components onto a single chip that are capable of programmable quantum information processing, chip-to-chip networking, hybrid quantum system integration, and high-speed communications. In this roadmap article, we highlight the status, current and future challenges, and emerging technologies in several key research areas in integrated quantum photonics, including photonic platforms, quantum and classical light sources, quantum frequency conversion, integrated detectors, and applications in computing, communications, and sensing. With advances in materials, photonic design architectures, fabrication and integration processes, packaging, and testing and benchmarking, in the next decade we can expect a transition from single- and few-function prototypes to large-scale integration of multi-functional and reconfigurable devices that will have a transformative impact on quantum information science and engineering

Rethinking place-making: aligning placeness factors with perceived urban design qualities (PUDQs) to improve the built environment in historical district

Understanding the concept of place is critically important for urban design and place-making practice, and this research attempted to investigate the pathways by which perceived urban design qualities (PUDQs) influence placeness factors in the Chinese context. Twelve hypotheses were developed and combined in a structural equation model for validation. The Tanhualin historical district in Wuhan, China was selected for the analysis. As a result, place attachment was verified as a critical bridge factor that mediated the influence of PUDQs on place satisfaction. Among the five selected PUDQs, walkability and space quality were revealed as the most influential factors associated with place attachment and place satisfaction. Accessibility was actually indirectly beneficial to place-making via the mediation of walkability. Corresponding implications and strategies were discussed to maintain the sense of place for historic districts

XVI amžiaus karo etiketas Lietuvoje: Domenico Mora'os "Il cavaliere"

This article discusses the rare military courtesy treatise, "Il Cavaliere" ("The Knight"), by Domenico Mora, published at Vilnius by Daniel Lancicius (Lenčickis or Łęczycki) in 1589. After a brief summary of the literary career of the author (ca. 1536–after 1600), an account is given of the contents of "Il Cavaliere". The book is in the form of a reply to "Il Gentilhuomo", a courtesy book by Girolamo Muzio, but its greatest originality lies in its specifically Livonian content, since "Il Cavaliere" is clearly the work of an Italian far from home. Mora's social attitudes, his profound dislike of non-Catholics, and his truculent opinions on the defense of Catholic Europe against external enemies in Muscovy and Turkey were all conditioned by his long stay on the frontier of Poland–Lithuania. The quality of Italian printing at Vilnius, Mora's relations with the Jesuit writer Antonio Possevino, and Mora's telling of two ghost stories set in Lithuania are also discussed. Mora emerges as a representative of the Italian professional soldiering class, self-exiled to the frontiers of Catholicism in search of patronage and piet

Vat. Ottobonianus lat. 1354 : Apropos of catalogue notices and the history of grammatical pedagogy

As long ago as 1956, O. J. Blum suggested that Alberic of Montecassino was author of a treatise on syllabe length found in Codex Ottobonianus Lat. 1354 of the Vatican Library. Closer examination of the codex shows that it is a collection of grammatical and rhetorical treatises most of which may be associated with the school of Montecassino, the most famous monastic school of the eleventh century. Thus, we have to hand not only a new work by Alberic of Montecassino, but also a textbook based on the curriculum of his school. Gehl Paul F. Vat.
