    This was an exploratory applied study in which an instrument was developedbased on Myers-Briggs (1985); Belbin (1891); Rogers (1983); Spence (1995),and Grunig (1997), for the purpose to investigate communicative behaviour ofmanagement guru product adopters. The research developed a predictiveinstrument of limited application, and brought together many writers theories onadopters of new ideas in a creative and diagrammatipal way. The study showedthat there were communicative behavioural traits exhibited within the participatinggroup, represented by intuition and attitude. The instrument used, whilstrecognisably limited, may be applied to situations of selection, training anddevelopment. This has implications for the management of organisationallearning

    A survey of bariatric surgical and reproductive health professionals' knowledge and provision of contraception to reproductive-aged bariatric surgical patients

    BACKGROUND: Over 80 % of bariatric surgical patients are women with obesity in their reproductive years. Obesity adversely affects fertility; the rapid weight loss following bariatric surgery can increase fecundity. Current guidelines recommend avoiding pregnancy for up to 24 months following surgery, but little is known about current contraceptive care of women who undergo bariatric surgery. Two surveys were undertaken with bariatric surgical and contraceptive practitioners in England to establish current contraceptive practices in both groups. METHODS: Two anonymous on-line surveys were sent to all 382 members of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society (BOMSS) and an estimated 300 contraceptive practitioners in the North East of England. RESULTS: The BOMSS survey elicited a response rate of 17 % (n = 65), mainly from bariatric surgeons (n = 24 (36 %)). Most respondents (97 %) acknowledged the need to educate patients, but contraceptive information was only provided by 7 % (n = 4) of respondents in bariatric surgical clinics. Less than half of respondents were confident discussing contraception, and the majority requested further training, guidance and communication with contraceptive practitioners. The majority of respondents to the contraceptive practitioner survey were general practitioners (28 %, n = 20). Three quarters of respondents reported little knowledge of bariatric surgery, and many reported not seeing women with obesity requiring contraception before (66 %, n = 45) or after surgery (71 %, n = 49). CONCLUSIONS: There is a need to increase knowledge levels of contraception within bariatric surgical teams and to understand why, despite increasing levels of bariatric surgery, women do not seem to be appearing for advice in contraceptive settings

    In this article, I depart from the earlier opinions of Emily Gerard, Sabine Baring-Gould, and others, who explained the disappearance of the werewolf in folklore as following the extinction of the wolf. I argue instead that British literature is distinctive in representing a history of werewolf sightings in places in Britain where there were once wolves. I draw on the idea of absence, manifestations of the English eerie, and the turbulence of England in the era of late capitalism to illuminate my analysis of the representation of contemporary werewolf sightingsPeer reviewe

    The look of the con: Eleven thoughts on the historical absence of subtitles in film analysis

    This article considers the lack of dialogue between Audio-Visual Translation and Film & Media Studies, despite the fact that both disciplines clearly have shared interests in the content of audio-visual texts. The apparent lack of any developed and consistent overlap between these areas of study is the starting point for a series of eleven ‘thoughts' that identify commonalities and differences in how film and television texts might be studied and analysed. Inspired and led by the specific example of a scene from Ocean’s Eleven (2001), the article explores the potential for interdisciplinary research collaborations through ideas of authorship, genre, history, technology, industry labour, and reception and audience studies. While identifying areas where different theories might clash or complicate collaboration, the article also highlights potent areas where shared experience and different perspectives could enrich both fields
