Case report: Diagnostic reconceptualization in the DSM-V on somatoform disorders
Psychosomatic disorders are among the most common psychiatric disorders in general practice, with a prevalence of 16%. These patients often turn to different general practitioners and/or non-psychiatric specialists for long periods of time and represent a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge, as the possible organic component makes it complex and difficult to manage. The reported case is a 24-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of Somatic Symptoms Disorder and multiple psychiatric comorbidities. The purpose of this study is to review the reconceptualization of Somatoform Disorders’ DSM-5 diagnosis, which can be useful for psychiatrists and
non-psychiatric physicians for the approach and management of these patients

External ophthalmomyiasis by Oestrus ovis treated with tobacco: clinical case report and medical literature review
External ophthalmomyiasis is an infestation of conjunctiva with larvae or maggots of certain lies. Oestrus ovis is the most common cause of human ophthalmomyiasis. The case of a 16-yearold female is described, who presented with foreign body sensation, pain, and redness in the left eye. Slit-lamp biomicroscopy revealed 32 tiny larvae crawling around the conjunctival sac. The larvae were mechanically removed under topical anesthesia, and identiied under a light
microscope as irst-stage larvae of O. ovis causing external ophthalmomyiasis. She was successfully
treated with topical tobacco juice. Follow-up examination of these cases is recommended to avoid possible complications
X-ray determination of compressive residual Stresses in spring steel generated by high-speed water Quenching
Automotive components manufacturers use the 5160 steel in leaf and coil springs. The industrial heat treatment process consists in austenitizing followed by the oil quenching and tempering process. Typically, compressive residual stresses are induced by shot peening on the surface of automotive springs to bestow compressive residual stresses that improve the fatigue resistance and increase the service life of the parts after heat treatment. In this work, a high-speed quenching was used to achieve compressive residual stresses on the surface of AISI/SAE 5160 steel samples by producing high thermal gradients and interrupting the cooling in order to generate a case-core microstructure. A special laboratory equipment was designed and built, which uses water as the quenching media in a high-speed water chamber. The severity of the cooling was characterized with embedded thermocouples to obtain the cooling curves at different depths from the surface. Samples were cooled for various times to produce different hardened case depths. The microstructure of specimens was observed with a scanning electron microscope (SEM). X-ray diffraction (XRD) was used to estimate the magnitude of residual stresses on the surface of the specimens. Compressive residual stresses at the surface and sub-surface of about -700 MPa were obtained.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Influence of the Delta Phase in the Microstructure of the Inconel 718 subjected to “Delta-processing” Heat Treatment and Hot Deformed
AbstractInconel 718 (IN718) is a nickel base alloy widely used in the aerospace industry due to its mechanical stability at elevated temperatures. Stable δ phase with acicular morphology weakens the IN718, however, it has been found that a spherical morphology distributed in the grain boundaries acts as an anchor preventing grain growth during hot deformation. The delta processing (DP718) is a saturation of δ phase in the alloy by thermal treatment followed by thermomechanical working to control the grain growth and morphology during deformation. Two specimens (A and B) of IN718 alloy were solubilized for 1h at 1100°C WQ and aging at 900°C for 24hWQ thermal treatment, following bythermomechanical deformation. Sample A was deformed at 0.001 s -1 and sample Bat 0.01 s-1, both deformations were carried out at 960°C and the final microstructures were characterized by optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) in order to evaluate morphology and grainsize distribution
Knowledge on intellectual property as an advantage for scientific research
Protection of intellectual property represents a key factor for the establishment of particular rights in the scientific sector, and a clear registry of the technological development of a country. Strategies for the protection of industrial and intellectual property and copyright are relevant to maintain the administration of knowledge under control, confidentiality during its development, and assurance of exclusivity in research activities. The relationship between colleagues when presenting at a conference should be of trust, however, plagiarism is one of the main worries among researchers whenever they have to communicate their work among experts. Our objective was to identify the reasons
why researchers do not protect their scientific work. Through our survey, we found that there is a lack of knowledge regarding protection of intellectual property. We conclude that it is important to educate researchers on the importance of protecting their work to improve the relationship of trust that exists between colleagues and students.
Ecthyma gangrenosum: a report of eight cases
Abstract: Ecthyma gangrenosum is a rare skin infection classically associated with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. We performed a retrospective study of all cases diagnosed with ecthyma gangrenosum from 2004-2010 in a university hospital in Mexico (8 cases, 5 female patients and 3 male patients, ages between 4 months and 2 years). The most common risk factor for ecthyma gangrenosum is neutropenia in immunocompromised patients. In previously healthy patients, immunological evaluation is important to rule out underlying immunodeficiency. Ecthyma gangrenosum in healthy patients has a high mortality rate and early diagnosis and aggressive antibiotic treatment is imperative as it can improve patients’ prognosis. Predictors of Cerebral Arteriovenous Malformation Mortality: A Single-center, Five-year Retrospective Study
Background: Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs) are abnormalities in intracranial vessels between the arterial and venous systems. This study aimed to identify the predictors of mortality in patients that presented to our hospital with AVMs, ruptured or unruptured, and correlate them to those available in the literature.
Methods: An analytical, observational, retrospective study was performed to review data of patients with cerebral AVMs in the University Hospital “Dr José Eleuterio González” from January 2016 to December 2020. Clinical files were reviewed based on AVMs diagnosis according to the International Classification of Diseases 10th Revision, ICD-10. Variables were subjected to a univariate analysis and those found significant (p-value < 0.05) were subjected to a logistic regression.
Results: A total of 80 patients were included in our study. Most of the participants were females (56.3%) and three were pregnant. The most common presenting symptom was holocranial headache (34 cases) occurring between the hours of 22:00 to 7:00. The most significant predictors of mortality were a total bleeding volume greater than 9.18 cm3 (p = 0.010), the presence of more than one symptom (p = 0.041), and a history of previous cerebral intraparenchymal hemorrhage (p = 0.014).
Conclusion: Results demonstrated an important association between intracranial bleeding and mortality. Ultimately, more prospective studies are needed to determine predictor factors for mortality in AVMs patients
