In making it possible to view the same performative object in three different ways, the notions of performativity, specularity and symbiotic relation help us to analyse the body in its concrete materiality and its effects in social relationships. By applying them in an ethnography of maracatu rural, a performance from Pernambuco (Brazil) this text analyses the modalities of insertion and isolation elaborated by the performers through their physical actions and their ways of working the body. They find there a way of removing themselves from the attempts by pernambucana society to define itself through the appropriation of their performative heritage. While the latter is involved in the constant racialisation and identity-based reconstructions of cultural critique, the former seem to find self-recognition only in and through the body. They escape from the « normatisation » of society through testing out and constructing a sensitive being in a context where the marginality of some is used to construct the specificity of others
Reporting the social indicators to the functional unit for food product. Theoretical contribution regarding the collection of relevant data
International audienceSeveral conceptions of social LCA lend on two often implicit hypothesis i)the source of impacts, the stressor would be either from technical origin, either from social one. It stems from it that relating the quantity of impacts to the quantity of functional unit has to be done through the unit processes, as it is done in ELCA. ii) companies are singly and freely choosing their practice, and even imposing social behaviour. We expect pointing out that we may build another representation. The values of the social indicators may be related proportionally to the functional units, if we handle them at the relevant level. Suggestions about the potential levels for picking up the data will conclude this proposal
Fruits and vegetables supply chains specificities and stakes as element of discussion on Social-LCA
International audienceAgri-food supply chains are at the heart of sustainable development concerns. In order to comprehend whole complex parameters and their global impacts, it appeared necessary to adopt a systemic approach, justifying a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), not only from an environmental point of view but from a social and economic one too. Taking into account specificities and stakes of fruits and vegetables (F&V) supply chains in developing countries this paper focus on absences, deficiencies and methodological limits that LCA meets integrating social and economic aspects. The elements presented lead to an in-depth conceptual and theoretical discussion and suggest placing LCA in the perspective of development theory. The proposition is to endow LCA with an approach by capitals, which seems particularly adapted to express sustainable development and well-being
Inverse Data-Driven Optimal Control for Nonlinear Stochastic Non-stationary Systems
We consider the problem of estimating the possibly non-convex cost of an
agent by observing its interactions with a nonlinear, non-stationary and
stochastic environment. For this inverse problem, we give a result that allows
to estimate the cost by solving a convex optimization problem. To obtain this
result we also tackle a forward problem. This leads to formulate a
finite-horizon optimal control problem for which we show convexity and find the
optimal solution. Our approach leverages certain probabilistic descriptions
that can be obtained both from data and/or from first-principles. The
effectiveness of our results, which are turned in an algorithm, is illustrated
via simulations on the problem of estimating the cost of an agent that is
stabilizing the unstable equilibrium of a pendulum.Comment: Submitted to The 62nd IEEE Conference on Decision and Contro
Microfinance has made and continues to do a lot of debate. In these debates, an under-documented aspect is the impacts on recipients’ behavior. Through an empirical study on a sample of 500 beneficiaries of microfinance in Haiti, we mobilize the new theoretical framework of institutional capital to analyze this under-explored socio-economic aspect, through a multiple capitals approach of economic development. The results of the study show that the contribution of microfinance organizations includes institutional capital, and this asset influences beneficiaries’ socio-economic behavior, both in terms of consumption and savings, and in the observance of the repayment agreement
