The economic relevance of climate variables in agriculture: The case of Spain

    Get PDF
We estimate the impact of the different climate variables on the value of Spanish farmland. We distinguish between irrigated and non-irrigated lands and use data on temperature, precipitations, physical and socioeconomic characteristics to measure these effects on farm prices and in the number of hectares of farmland. We conclude presenting the main results of our analysis, region by region, and examining the policies that could be more effective to prevent undesired effects.Land Economics/Use,

Photoproduction with a mini-jet model and Cosmic Ray showers

We present post-LHC updates of estimates of the total photo-production cross section in a mini-jet model with infrared soft gluon resummation, and apply the model to study Cosmic Ray shower development, comparing the results with those obtained from other existing models.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures, presented at Photon 2017, 22-26 May 2017 CER

Public entities driven robotic innovation in urban areas

Cities present new challenges and needs to satisfy and improve lifestyle for their citizens under the concept “Smart City”. In order to achieve this goal in a global manner, new technologies are required as the robotic one. But Public entities unknown the possibilities offered by this technology to get solutions to their needs. In this paper the development of the Innovative Public Procurement instruments is explained, specifically the process PDTI (Public end Users Driven Technological Innovation) as a driving force of robotic research and development and offering a list of robotic urban challenges proposed by European cities that have participated in such a process. In the next phases of the procedure, this fact will provide novel robotic solutions addressed to public demand that are an example to be followed by other Smart Cities.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft

Grey-Box Model: An ensemble approach for addressing semi-supervised classification problems

    Get PDF
In this paper, we propose a novel and interpretable grey-box ensemble using a selflabeled approach for semi-supervised classification problems. The prospective greybox ensembles a more interpretable whitebox model with a black-box technique. This scheme could guide the comparatively data expensive white-box component with the results from the more accurate black-box part. We evaluate the proposal in an inductive learning setting showing good performance in partially labeled datasets

Socio-spatial analysis of the vulnerable urban fabric in the city of Barcelona

[EN] Socio-residential vulnerability is one of currently increasing challenges for cities and metropolitan areas in addressing the interaction between the vulnerable resident population and the need to improve the building stock, particularly after the financial crisis of 2008 and the consequent regression of public investments.Recent studies have measured and described the levels of vulnerability in the city of Barcelona and their results highlight socio-spatial similarities between urban fabrics that happen to be morphologically, historically and geographically very different. The present research focuses on the assessment of physical and social shortcomings of vulnerable areas in the city of Barcelona. With this purpose, a sample of buildings in some of the most vulnerable neighbourhoods are statistically analysed through a set of variables at building scale related to both the need of improvement of residential existing buildings and the characteristics of their inhabitants. An extensiveThe main sources of this research have been provided or supported by the Council of Barcelona, by means of several contracts that have been crucial for the development of fieldwork and database elaboration. The present paper has been written with funding of the Ministry of Education thanks to an FPU Grant for Doctoral research. The Painter on the Road. De la pintura de paisaje a pintar en el paisaje. La importancia del proceso y el recorrido en la extensión de la idea de monocromo

[EN] We are proposing a personal itinerary based on a large number of artists in order to set out forms and attitudes that merge 'painting' and 'landscape' as fibres of a very same thread. In that process, in its evolution and itinerary, we find an essential and strategical line for analysing the idea of the monochrome in its full extent. A path that seems to take its first and last steps within the idea of the landscape. Thus, this will be the main object of study in this work, in which although in its development the personal production has been essential, this should not be considered as the focus but as the substratum which provides the possibility of talking about ourselves without actually doing it.[ES] Proponemos un recorrido personal que se apoya en numerosos artistas para plantear formas y actitudes que entremezclan «pintura» y «paisaje» como fibras de una misma cuerda. Grau Garcia, I.
