    Deformation method for generalized Abelian Higgs-Chern-Simons models

    We present an extension of the deformation method applied to self-dual solutions of generalized Abelian Higgs-Chern-Simons models. Starting from a model defined by a potential V(ϕ)V(| \phi |) and a non-canonical kinetic term ω(ϕ)Dμϕ2\omega(| \phi |) | D_{\mu}\phi |^2 whose analytical domain wall solutions are known, we show that this method allows to obtain an uncountable number of new analytical solutions of new models defined by other functions V~\widetilde{V} and ω~\widetilde{\omega}. We present some examples of deformation functions leading to new families of models and their associated analytic solutions.Comment: 6 pages, 10 figure

    Consideradas pragas secundárias, as brocas da haste da mandioca Sternocoelus spp. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) são problema fitossanitário em algumas áreas produtoras (RODRIGUEZ et al., 2009). O controle dessa praga é difícil, pois o dano ocorre quando ao eclodir e se alimentar no interior da haste as larvas interrompem o fluxo de seiva na planta levando-a à morte (CARVALHO et al. 2009)

    Vapour–liquid equilibrium data were measured for the propanoic acid + water system at 423.2, 453.2 and 483.2 K from 1.87 to 19.38 bar over the entire range of concentrations. An experimental apparatus based on the static–analytical method with sampling of both phases was used with quantitative analysis by GC. The system is highly non-ideal showing azeotropic behaviour. The Peng–Robinson (PR), the cubic plus association (CPA), the perturbed chain statistical associating fluid theory (PC-SAFT) and the PC-polar-SAFT (PCP-SAFT) equations of state modelled the data. Two association sites were assumed for both compounds. A single–binary interaction parameter (kij ) was used in all models, and predictive (kij=0) and correlative (View the MathML source) capabilities were assessed. Available data at 313.1, 343.2 and 373.1 K from the open literature were included in the analysis. PCP-SAFT presented higher predictive and correlative capabilities over the entire temperature range. PC-SAFT in predictive mode was not able to represent the azeotropic behaviour but resulted in the second best correlations. CPA presented a satisfactory balance between the two modes.     Fried potatoes: Impact of prolonged frying in monounsaturated oils

    Fresh potatoes were intermittently deep-fried up to recommended limits (175 °C, 8 h/day, 28 h) in extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), peanut oil (PO) and canola oil (CO), and compared for diverse chemical components and sensorial attributes, aiming to quantify the impact of prolonged frying on potatoes nutrients, and the potential alterations resulting from the use of different monounsaturated-rich oils. Independently of oil type, its degradation promotes time-dependent losses of important potato nutrients, as vitamin C. Regarding the monounsaturated-rich oils tested, potatoes fried in CO had more equilibrated fatty acid profiles, but higher amounts of aldehydes derived from PUFA oxidation, while in EVOO were enriched with phenolic compounds. Acrylamide amounts were not affected by oil type or frying hours. Sensory degradation was gradually perceived by the panellists, except in PO.     Signatures of magnetic activity in the seismic data of solar-type stars observed by Kepler

    In the Sun, the frequencies of the acoustic modes are observed to vary in phase with the magnetic activity level. These frequency variations are expected to be common in solar-type stars and contain information about the activity-related changes that take place in their interiors. The unprecedented duration of Kepler photometric time-series provides a unique opportunity to detect and characterize stellar magnetic cycles through asteroseismology. In this work, we analyze a sample of 87 solar-type stars, measuring their temporal frequency shifts over segments of length 90 days. For each segment, the individual frequencies are obtained through a Bayesian peak-bagging tool. The mean frequency shifts are then computed and compared with: 1) those obtained from a cross-correlation method; 2) the variation in the mode heights; 3) a photometric activity proxy; and 4) the characteristic timescale of the granulation. For each star and 90-d sub-series, we provide mean frequency shifts, mode heights, and characteristic timescales of the granulation. Interestingly, more than 60% of the stars show evidence for (quasi-)periodic variations in the frequency shifts. In the majority of the cases, these variations are accompanied by variations in other activity proxies. About 20% of the stars show mode frequencies and heights varying approximately in phase, in opposition to what is observed for the Sun.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJS, 19(+86) pages, 11(+89) figures, 2(+87) table

    Seismic signatures of magnetic activity in solar-type stars observed by Kepler

    The properties of the acoustic modes are sensitive to magnetic activity. The unprecedented long-term Kepler photometry, thus, allows stellar magnetic cycles to be studied through asteroseismology. We search for signatures of magnetic cycles in the seismic data of Kepler solar-type stars. We find evidence for periodic variations in the acoustic properties of about half of the 87 analysed stars. In these proceedings, we highlight the results obtained for two such stars, namely KIC 8006161 and KIC 5184732.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, to appear in the Proceedings of the IAUS34
