Magnetic behavior of lamellar mnps3 and cdps3 composites with a paramagnetic manganese(iii) macrocyclic guest
Indexación: ScieloSix new composites derived from the intercalation of the MPS3 phases (M = MnII, CdIII) with the macrocyclic manganese(III) complex [MnL(H2O)2].NO3(H2O) (LH2 = Schiff base macrocyclic ligand derived from the condensation of 2-hydroxy-5-methy1-1,3-benzene-dicarbaldehyde and 1,2-diamine-benzene) were obtained by two different synthetic procedures: a conventional and a microwave assisted method. The composites [MnL]0.25K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (1), and [MnL]0.25K0.15Cd 0. 80PS3(H2O)~0.5 (2) were obtained by the conventional method, after stirring a suspension of the corresponding potassium precursor and the macrocyclic complex for two weeks, while [MnL]0.35K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (3) and [MnL]0.25K0.15Cd 0. 80PS3(H2O)~0.5 (4) after stirring for four weeks at room temperature. Using a microwave assisted reaction permitted to obtain in a shorter period of time as compared with the conventional method, composites [MnL]0.20K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (5) and [MnL]0.15K0.15Cd 0. 80PS3(H2O)~0.5 (6). All the M = MnII, MnIII composites show a bulk antiferromagnetic behavior. However, the spontaneous magnetization present at low temperature in the potassium precursor K0.40Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 is observable in composite [MnL]0.20K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (5), while it is completely absent in composites [MnL]0.25K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (1) and [MnL]0.35K0.15Mn0.80 PS3(H2O)~1.0 (3).

Statistical tests of sterile neutrinos using cosmology and short-baseline data
In this paper we revisit the question of the information which cosmology
provides on the scenarios with sterile neutrinos invoked to describe the SBL
anomalies using Bayesian statistical tests. We perform an analysis of the
cosmological data in CDM cosmologies for different
cosmological data combinations, and obtain the marginalized cosmological
likelihood in terms of the two relevant parameters, the sterile neutrino mass
and its contribution to the energy density of the early Universe . We then present an analysis to quantify at which level a model with one
sterile neutrino is (dis)favoured with respect to a model with only three
active neutrinos, using results from both short-baseline experiments and
cosmology. We study the dependence of the results on the cosmological data
considered, in particular on the inclusion of the recent BICEP2 results and the
SZ cluster data from the Planck mission. We find that only when the cluster
data is included the model with one extra sterile neutrino can become more
favoured that the model with only the three active ones provided the sterile
neutrino contribution to radiation density is suppressed with respect to the
fully thermalized scenario. We have also quantified the level of
(in)compatibility between the sterile neutrino masses implied by the
cosmological and SBL results.Comment: 23 pages, 4 figure
Crystal engineering using functionalized adamantane
We performed a first principles investigation on the structural, electronic,
and optical properties of crystals made of chemically functionalized adamantane
molecules. Several molecular building blocks, formed by boron and nitrogen
substitutional functionalizations, were considered to build zincblende and
wurtzite crystals, and the resulting structures presented large bulk moduli and
cohesive energies, wide and direct bandgaps, and low dielectric constants
(low- materials). Those properties provide stability for such
structures up to room temperature, superior to those of typical molecular
crystals. This indicates a possible road map for crystal engineering using
functionalized diamondoids, with potential applications ranging from space
filling between conducting wires in nanodevices to nano-electro-mechanical
systems
Electronic Raman Scattering in Twistronic Few-Layer Graphene
We study electronic contribution to the Raman scattering signals of two-,
three- and four-layer graphene with layers at one of the interfaces twisted by
a small angle with respect to each other. We find that the Raman spectra of
these systems feature two peaks produced by van Hove singularities in moir\'{e}
minibands of twistronic graphene, one related to direct hybridization of Dirac
states, and the other resulting from band folding caused by moir\'{e}
superlattice. The positions of both peaks strongly depend on the twist angle,
so that their detection can be used for non-invasive characterization of the
twist, even in hBN-encapsulated structures.Comment: 7 pages (including 4 figures) + 10 pages (3 figures) supplemen
Evidences of evanescent Bloch waves in Phononic Crystals
We show both experimentally and theoretically the evanescent behaviour of
modes in the Band Gap (BG) of finite Phononic Crystal (PC). Based on
experimental and numerical data we obtain the imaginary part of the wave vector
in good agreement with the complex band structures obtained by the Extended
Plane Wave Expansion (EPWE). The calculated and measured acoustic field of a
localized mode out of the point defect inside the PC presents also evanescent
behaviour. The correct understanding of evanescent modes is fundamental for
designing narrow filters and wave guides based on Phononic Crystals with
defects.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure
