Non-ergodic states induced by impurity levels in quantum spin chains
The semi-infinite XY spin chain with an impurity at the boundary has been
chosen as a prototype of interacting many-body systems to test for non-ergodic
behavior. The model is exactly solvable in analytic way in the thermodynamic
limit, where energy eigenstates and the spectrum are obtained in closed form.
In addition of a continuous band, localized states may split off from the
continuum, for some values of the impurity parameters. In the next step, after
the preparation of an arbitrary non-equilibrium state, we observe the time
evolution of the site magnetization. Relaxation properties are described by the
long-time behavior, which is estimated using the stationary phase method.
Absence of localized states defines an ergodic region in parameter space, where
the system relaxes to a homogeneous magnetization. Out of this region, impurity
levels split from the band, and localization phenomena may lead to

PWM Control of a Buck Converter with an Amorphous Core Coil
Pulse-width modulation is widely used to control electronic converters. One of the most topologies used for high DC voltage/low DC voltage conversion is the Buck converter. It is obtained as a second order system with a LC filter between the switching subsystem and the load. The use of a coil with an amorphous magnetic material core instead of air core lets design converters with smaller size. If high switching frequencies are used for obtaining high quality voltage output, the value of the auto inductance L is reduced throughout the time. Then, robust controllers are needed if the accuracy of the converter response must not be affected by auto inductance and load variations. This paper presents a robust controller for a Buck converter based on a state space feedback control system combined with an additional virtual space variable which minimizes the effects of the inductance and load variations when a not-toohigh switching frequency is applied. The system exhibits a null steady-state average error response for the entire range of parameter variations. Simulation results are presented
Using the Own Flexibility of a Climbing Robot as a Double Force Sensor
Force sensors are used when interaction tasks are carried out by robots in general, and by climbing robots in particular. If the mechanics and electronics systems are contained inside the own robot, the robot becomes portable without external control. Commercial force sensors cannot be used due to limited space and weight. By selecting the links material with appropriate stiffness and placing strain gauges on the structure, the own robot flexibility can be used such as force sensor. Thus, forces applied on the robot tip can be measured without additional external devices. Only gauges and small internal electronic converters are necessary. This paper illustrates the proposed algorithm to achieve these measurements. Additionally, experimental results are presented
Further Results on the Total Roman Domination in Graphs
[EN] Let G be a graph without isolated vertices. A function f:V(G)-> {0,1,2} is a total Roman dominating function on G if every vertex v is an element of V(G) for which f(v)=0 is adjacent to at least one vertex u is an element of V(G) such that f(u)=2 , and if the subgraph induced by the set {v is an element of V(G):f(v)>= 1} has no isolated vertices. The total Roman domination number of G, denoted gamma tR(G) , is the minimum weight omega (f)=Sigma v is an element of V(G)f(v) among all total Roman dominating functions f on G. In this article we obtain new tight lower and upper bounds for gamma tR(G) which improve the well-known bounds 2 gamma (G)<= gamma tR(G)<= 3 gamma (G) , where gamma (G) represents the classical domination number. Kinect as an access device for people with cerebral palsy: A preliminary study
Cerebral palsy (CP) describes a group of disorders affecting the development of movement and posture, causingactivity limitation. Access to technology can alleviate some of these limitations. Many studies have used vision- based movement capture systems to overcome problems related to discomfort and fear of wearing devices. Incontrast, there has been no research assessing the behavior of vision-based movement capture systems in peoplewith involuntary movements. In this paper, we look at the potential of the Kinect sensor as an assistive technologyfor people with cerebral palsy. We developed a serious game, called KiSens Números, to study the behavior ofKinect in this context and eighteen subjects with cerebral palsy used it to complete a set of sessions. The resultsof the experiments show that Kinect filters some of peoples involuntary movements, confirming the potential ofKinect as an assistive technology for people with motor disabilities

A pesar del notable progreso que ha tenido lugar en el tratamiento terapéutico de la AR, la administración a largo plazo de medicamentos antirreumáticos todavía presenta bastantes inconvenientes. Aún existe la necesidad de utilizar grandes dosis y altas frecuencias de administración que generan importantes efectos secundarios.

Exploring the structure of hadronic showers and the hadronic energy reconstruction with highly granular calorimeters
Prototypes of electromagnetic and hadronic imaging calorimeters developed and
operated by the CALICE collaboration provide an unprecedented wealth of highly
granular data of hadronic showers for a variety of active sensor elements and
different absorber materials. In this presentation, we discuss detailed
measurements of the spatial and the time structure of hadronic showers to
characterise the different stages of hadronic cascades in the calorimeters,
which are then confronted with GEANT4-based simulations using different
hadronic physics models. These studies also extend to the two different
absorber materials, steel and tungsten, used in the prototypes. The high
granularity of the detectors is exploited in the reconstruction of hadronic
energy, both in individual detectors and combined electromagnetic and hadronic
systems, making use of software compensation and semi-digital energy
reconstruction. The results include new simulation studies that predict the
reliable operation of granular calorimeters. Further we show how granularity
and the application of multivariate analysis algorithms enable the separation
of close-by particles. We will report on the performance of these
reconstruction techniques for different electromagnetic and hadronic
calorimeters, with silicon, scintillator and gaseous active elements. Granular
calorimeters are also an ideal testing ground for the application of machine
learning techniques. We will outline how these techniques are applied to CALICE

Understanding a Version of Multivariate Symmetric Uncertainty to assist in Feature Selection
In this paper, we analyze the behavior of the multivariate symmetric
uncertainty (MSU) measure through the use of statistical simulation techniques
under various mixes of informative and non-informative randomly generated
features. Experiments show how the number of attributes, their cardinalities,
and the sample size affect the MSU. We discovered a condition that preserves
good quality in the MSU under different combinations of these three factors,
providing a new useful criterion to help drive the process of dimension
reduction
