Coefficient, Distortion and Growth Inequalities for Certain Close-to-Convex Functions
In the present investigation, certain subclasses of close-to-convex functions
are investigated. In particular, we obtain an estimate for the Fekete-Szeg\"o
functional for functions belonging to the class, distortion, growth estimates
and covering theorems
Regulatory T cells in rheumatoid arthritis showed increased plasticity toward Th17 but retained suppressive function in peripheral blood
OBJECTIVE:
Regulatory T cells (Tregs) with the plasticity of producing proinflammatory cytokine IL-17 have been demonstrated under normal and pathogenic conditions. However, it remains unclear whether IL-17-producing Tregs lose their suppressive functions because of their plasticity toward Th17 in autoimmunity. The aim of this study was to investigate IL-17-producing Tregs from patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and characterise their regulatory capacity and clinical significance.
METHODS:
Foxp3 and IL-17 coexpression were evaluated in CD4 T lymphocytes from RA patients. An in vitro T cell polarisation assay was performed to investigate the role of proinflammatory cytokines in IL-17-producing Treg polarisation. The suppressive function of IL-17-producing Tregs in RA was assessed by an in vitro suppression assay. The relationship between this Treg subset and clinical features in RA patients was analysed using Spearman's rank correlation test.
RESULTS:
A higher frequency of IL-17-producing Tregs was present in the peripheral blood of RA patients compared with healthy subjects. These cells from peripheral blood showed phenotypic characteristics of Th17 and Treg cells, and suppressed T cell proliferation in vitro. Tregs in RA synovial fluid lost suppressive function. The Th17 plasticity of Tregs could be induced by IL-6 and IL-23. An increased ratio of this Treg subset was associated with decreased levels of inflammatory markers, including the erythrocyte sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein level, in patients with RA.
CONCLUSIONS:
Increased levels of IL-17-producing Tregs were identified in RA patients. This Treg subset with Th17 plasticity in peripheral blood retained suppressive functions and was associated with milder inflammatory conditions, suggesting that this Treg population works as a negative regulator in RA, but in RA synovial site it may be pathogenic.postprin
Structural, Electrical, And Optical Properties Of Inasxsb1-X Epitaxial Films Grown By Liquid-Phase Epitaxy
The InAsxSb1-x films were grown on (100) GaSb substrates by liquid-phase epitaxy, and their structural, electrical, and optical properties were investigated. The high-resolution x-ray diffraction results reveal that the single crystalline InAsxSb1-x films with a midrange composition are epitaxially grown on the GaSb substrates. Temperature dependence of the Hall mobility was theoretically modeled by considering several predominant scattering mechanisms. The results indicate that ionized impurity and dislocation scatterings dominate at low temperatures, while polar optical phonon scattering is important at room temperature (RT). Furthermore, the InAsxSb1-x films with the higher As composition exhibit the better crystalline quality and the higher mobility. The InAs0.35Sb0.65 film exhibits a Hall mobility of 4.62x10(4) cm(2) V-1 s(-1). The cutoff wavelength of photoresponse is extended to about 12 mu m with a maximum responsivity of 0.21 V/W at RT, showing great potential for RT long-wavelength infrared detection. Feigenbaum graphs: a complex network perspective of chaos
The recently formulated theory of horizontal visibility graphs transforms
time series into graphs and allows the possibility of studying dynamical
systems through the characterization of their associated networks. This method
leads to a natural graph-theoretical description of nonlinear systems with
qualities in the spirit of symbolic dynamics. We support our claim via the case
study of the period-doubling and band-splitting attractor cascades that
characterize unimodal maps. We provide a universal analytical description of
this classic scenario in terms of the horizontal visibility graphs associated
with the dynamics within the attractors, that we call Feigenbaum graphs,
independent of map nonlinearity or other particulars. We derive exact results
for their degree distribution and related quantities, recast them in the
context of the renormalization group and find that its fixed points coincide
with those of network entropy optimization. Furthermore, we show that the
network entropy mimics the Lyapunov exponent of the map independently of its
sign, hinting at a Pesin-like relation equally valid out of chaos.Comment: Published in PLoS ONE (Sep 2011
Erratum to: Molecular modelling study of 2-phenylethynyladenosine (PEAdo) derivatives as highly selective A3 adenosine receptor ligands
A series of 2-phenylethynyladenosine (PEAdo) derivatives substituted in the N6- and 4′position was synthesised and the new derivatives were tested at the four human adenosine receptors stably transfected into Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, using radioligand binding studies (A1, A2A, A3) or adenylyl cyclase activity assay (A2B). Binding studies showed that the presence of a phenyl ethynyl group in the 2 position of adenosine favoured the interaction with A3 receptors, resulting in compounds endowed with high affinity and selectivity for the A3 subtype. Additional substitution of the N6- and 4′position increases both A3 affinity and selectivity. The results showed that the new compounds have a good affinity for the A3 receptor and in particular, the N6-methoxy-2-phenylethynyl-5′N-methylcarboxamidoadenosine, with a Ki at A3 of 1.9 nM and a selectivity A1/A3 and A2A/A3 of 4,800- and 8,600-fold, respectively. Therefore, it is one of the most potent and selective agonists at the human A3 adenosine receptor subtype reported so far. Furthermore, functional assays of inhibition of 10 μM forskolin-stimulated cAMP production via the adenosine A3 receptor revealed that the new trisubstituted adenosine derivatives behave as full agonist of this receptor subtype. Docking analysis of these compounds was performed at a homology model of the human A3 receptor based on the bovine rhodopsin crystal structure as template, and the results are in accordance with the biological data
