    Get PDF
This paper presents a set of front-end design guidelines intended to provide a starting point to designers of user interfaces for infotainment systems. The proposed approach suggests guidance on four dimensions inferred from state of the art such as crucial to achieve well designed automotive interfaces: a) Design; b) Interaction; c) Security; and d) Connectivity. Guidelines were thought by integrating conceptual-insights from Graphic Design; User Centered Design; Human-Machine Interfaces; Usability; and Human-Computer interaction. Additionally, were specified and structured to be used also as a comparing tool (Like Heuristic- Evaluation technique) to analyze front-end of existent infotainment systems. Said duality allowed to revise the pertinence of the proposal through a case study where 30 participants (25 regular users and 5 technicalexperts) compared suggested guidelines’ specification against interactions provided by the front–end of Mazda Connect© infotainment System. Obtained results suggested that setting of proposed guidelines was compatible with participants’ perceptions facilitating to identify pain-points on current design; thus, proposed guidance could scaffold base-insights for new front-end designs

Biotechnology is defined as science that uses living organisms to enhance the human life and the environment. However, it's not a new science as many people think. The first Biotechnology product registered is the cheese, and since then it has been part of daily life. Likewise, there are many genes related with cancer that contain SNPs, which are the most common variation in the human genome. The SNPs are found in genes related to important functions such as metabolism. However, these variations can cause amino acid substitution, leading to a malformation in the second structure of the protein, affecting its functions and interactions. Biotechnology field has increased exponentially during the last years. With this the knowledge of medicine has expanded, as well. In Biotechnology is important the management of information and its organization for a correct investigation. This leads to the creation of data-base companies, which make easier the information management. In this research, Medical Decision Making and Biotechnology through science mapping have been analyzed using bibliometric tools, in order to explore the scientific productivity and compare important aspect to consider in scientific research. Furthermore, to understand its importance in Medical Decision Support Systems, Genetics and Reproduction, Drug Industry, and Clinical Practice and Research

    Get PDF
The objective of this paper was to propose a methodological process for the design of frameworks oriented to infotainment user interfaces. Four stages comprise the proposed process, conceptualization, structuring, documentation, and evaluation; in addition, these stages include activities, tasks, and deliverables to guide a work team during the design of a framework. To determine the stages and their components, an analysis of 42 papers was carried out through a systematic literature review in search of similarities during the design process of frameworks related to user interfaces. The evaluation method by a panel of experts was used to determine the validity of the proposal; the conceptual proposal was provided to a panel of 10 experts for their analysis and later a questionnaire in the form of a Likert scale was used to collect the information on the validation of the proposal. The results of the evaluation indicated that the methodological process is valid to meet the objective of designing a framework oriented to infotainment user interfaces

Objective: To evaluate the antibacterial effect of electrolytically generated hypochlorous acid on Streptococcus gordonii, Fusobacterium nucleatum, and Porphyromonas gingivalis. Material and Methods: In this in vitro experiment, the effect of hypochlorous acid (HOCl) on the strains S. gordonii, F. nucleatum, and P. gingivalis was evaluated using 4% sodium hypochlorite, 0.12% chlorhexidine, and distilled water as controls. The four groups were placed on each plate, and each group was replicated five times. The agar diffusion method by zones measurement was used. The data were processed with SPSS using the Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple comparison tests. Results: Hypochlorous acid showed an average inhibition halo of 9.28 mm on S. gordonii. As expected with distilled water, no zone of inhibition was noted for any of the bacteria, nor were zones of inhibition observed with HOCl for F. nucleatum and P. gingivalis. Conclusion: Hypochlorous acid showed antimicrobial properties against only S. gordonii and was less effective than 4% sodium hypochlorite and 0.12% chlorhexidine, although no significant differences were found between the latter

Contralateral asymmetry for breast cancer detection : A CADx approach

Early detection is fundamental for the effective treatment of breast cancer and the screening mammography is the most common tool used by the medical community to detect early breast cancer development. Screening mammograms include images of both breasts using two standard views, and the contralateral asymmetry per view is a key feature in detecting breast cancer. we propose a methodology to incorporate said asymmetry information into a computer-aided diagnosis system that can accurately discern between healthy subjects and subjects at risk of having breast cancer. Furthermore, we generate features that measure not only a view-wise asymmetry, but a subject-wise one. Briefly, the methodology co-registers the left and right mammograms, extracts image characteristics, fuses them into subjectwise features, and classifies subjects. In this study, 152 subjects from two independent databases, one with analog- and one with digital mammograms, were used to validate the methodology. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.738 and 0.767, and diagnostic odds ratios of 23.10 and 9.00 were achieved, respectively. In addition, the proposed method has the potential to rank subjects by their probability of having breas

Pitch Marking Study towards High Quality in Concatenative Based Speech Synthesis

Generally, concatenative speech synthesis systems provide a considerable synthesis quality since the criteria for unit selection methods have been optimized. However, the level of synthesis quality still depends on the adequate concatenation of speech units. An adequate concatenation of speech units has as precondition that concatenation mismatches as phase mismatch, phase mismatch and discontinuity of spectral envelope must not appear in the synthesized speech signal. Therefore, avoiding phase mismatches leads to a high speech synthesis quality and the way to avoid phase mismatches is achieved by an appropriated pitch marking algorithm. Therefore, a pitch marking study was carried out through a evaluat-ing the available pitch marking algorithms. So, a speech database was pitch marked many times using the different pitch mark algorithms. Therewith, several sentences were synthesized applying the different pitch makings of the speech database. A mean Opinion Score (MOS) listening test was carried out for the evaluation of the synthesized speech sentences regarding mismatch human perception. The best pitch mark algorithm was selected according its observed effect in the quality of the speech synthesis

    No full text
