The expressibility of modality in representational complement clauses in Brazilian Portuguese

This paper deals with the (im)possibility of expressing a variety of modal categories within the context of the layering approach to complementation in Functional Discourse Grammar (FDG).Our hypothesis is that modal expressions in complement clauses only pertain to operator or modifier classes of the highest layer relevant for that type of embedded construction and for all lower levels. In order to test this hypothesis, occurrences of complement clauses in two databases of spoken Brazilian Portuguese are analyzed. The investigation of this hypothesis is restricted to representational complement clauses

Heranças gramaticais do português brasileiro. Competências sintático-pragmáticas em manutenção

Esta obra é fruto de uma investigação a respeito de aspectos gramaticais emergentes de falantes de PBLH em contexto italófono e, em mão dupla, de aspectos interferentes do italiano na fala desses mesmos usuários. No entanto, por uma questão de delimitação do objeto e por circunstâncias metodológicas diversas, apresentamos aqui apenas uma das faces dessa investigação, cujo recorte contempla verificar, analisar e descrever: a) fenômenos de natureza sintática que fazem emergir a competência linguística em manutenção que caracteriza o falante de PBLH em contexto do italiano como língua prioritária/dominante; b) estruturas de manutenção da competência materna que emergem desse discurso e os aspectos sociais e funcionais a que essas estruturas estão correlaciona- das na produção dos sentidos. Tudo isso acontece em virtude de uma finalidade maior, a saber, contribuir para a descrição da gramática manifesta pelo usuário de PBLH, suas especificidades e dinamismo
