2013 m. baigiasi mokslinis projektas „LDK tradicija, vaizdinys ir modernūs tapatumai“, kurį vykdė Vilniaus universiteto Istorijos fakultetas, o spiritus movens buvo Profesorius Alfredas Bumblauskas. Nors formaliai projektas prasidėjo 2010 m., idėjos ištakas ir pirmuosius darbus galime drąsiai nukelti keleriais metais anksčiau, kai buvo sėkmingai įgyvendintos dvi „LDK paveldo dalybų“ projekto dalys (2007–2009 m.) ir šio projekto metu organizuotų konferencijų pranešimų pagrindu išleisti du reikšmingi mokslinių straipsnių rinkiniai

Controversial events occupy an important place in the history of Lithuania. One of such events, which Polish historians more often recollect, is the unveiling of the monument of Catherine II on 10 September 1904 in the Cathedral Square in Vilnius. The article analyses the implication of this event. As the result of privileges provided by the Tsarist policy, the layer of land owners of noble origin became more active in the north-western region in the late 19th–early 20th c. New possibilities for limiting or repealing decrees of the second half of the 19th c. discriminating the nobility were sought for. The policy of the new Governor General P. Sviatopolk-Mirski was characterised with tolerance, comprehension and “liberality”. During a meeting at the Governor General’s on September 1, the delegation of land owners made it clear that they will participate in the solemn unveiling of the monument hoping that the Governor General will keep his word and their equal rights will be restored. The political implication of the solemn unveiling of the monument of Catherine II on 10 September 1904 in Vilnius demonstrated political aims and goals of the state administration represented by P. Sviatopolk-Mirski and landowners from the north-western region. In demonstrating its loyalty, part of the Lithuanian nobility confided in P. Sviatopolk-Mirski’s promises and decided to participate in the solemn ceremony. The announcement of a decree of 1 May 1905 of the Committee of Ministers was determined not only by revolutionary events, but also by the solid influence of Minister of Internal Affairs P. Sviatopolk-Mirski and efforts of loyalists of the north-western region, which became clear during the September negotiations with the Governor General

Straipsnyje nagrinėjama asmenybės veiksnio politines organizacijos veiklos srityje svarba, telkiant dėmesį į lenkų komitetą Vilniuje, susiformavusio 1916 m. pradžioje iš įvairių vietos lenkų politinių partijų ir organizacijų. Akcentuojami lenkų ekonomisto ir politiko prof. Władysławo Zawadzkio Pirmo pasaulinio karo metu rašyti politiniai memorialai, turintys atspindėti Lenkų komiteto poziciją Lietuvos ateities klausimu ir parodant vokiečių okupacinei valdžiai Lietuvos lenkų politinių ir socialinių sluoksnių potencialą bei svarbą sprendžiant šio krašto ateities problemas. Straipsnis pagrįstas archyvine medžiaga iš Lietuvos Mokslų Akademijos Rankraščių skyriaus, keliais W. Zawadzkio parašytais memorialais, rašytais Lenkų komiteto pavedimu. Kas rodo, jog nors jie ir išreiškė bendrą visų Komiteto narių poziciją, vis tik autorius darydamas prielaidą akcentuoja W. Zawadzkio politinio mąstymo specifiką, kuri atsiskleidžia tekstuose. The article tackles the importance of the individual agent in the political stage and pays a lot of attention to the polish committee in Vilnius that was formed in the beginning of 1916 from various Polish political parties and organizations. The emphasis is made on the memoirs of the polish economist and politician professor Władysław Zawadzki that were written during the First World War. The memoirs reflect the position of the Polish committee on the question of Lithuania’s future and demonstrate to the German occupational government the potential and importance of polish political and social groups in solving the upcoming problems of the country. The article is based on the archival materials from the Manuscript department of Lithuanian Science Academy, several memoirs of W. Zawadzki commissioned by the Polish committee. Even though the text portrays the common position of the committee members the author emphasizes the specific of W. Zawadzki political thought

The complex identity of the GDL citizen that was formed in the previous ages as well as during the period of servitude in the 19th century due to its miscellaneous structure and meaning did not satisfy the needs of the modern ethno-linguistic national movement. In the beginning of the 20th century, the idea of the GDL played a sufficiently important role in the national and political movement of the Poles, in the historical lands of Lithuania in particular. The literary– publicist idea of Józef Mackiewicz in the future must be further investigated in depth while including the archive sources, because the lack of them leaves certain details of his life and creative work unclear. Being an “awkward” writer, he mostly provoked the “nationally–conscious” personalities. His concept of the GDL, its historical perception and restitution projects are saturated with conservativity and the individualistic atmosphere of the 19th century. In the ranks of Krajowcy he stood out not for his depth of theoretical thought and the art of political programme development, but rather as an emotional defender of idea and reality. The historical significance of the GDL laid in its conception of statehood and geopolitics. J. Mackiewicz tried to present an alternative to the nationalist narrative in history as well as in politics. Without avoiding speculation and the flight of mind, he tried to prove the viability and rationality of the GDL idea. Nonetheless, the concept formulated by him had obvious ambiguity and was not essentially complete. It is possible that J. Mackiewicz had not sought for the completeness altogether. That is why his literary and publicist works cannot be evaluated based on the strict criteria of scholarliness only. One should rather try to grasp his option of Krajowcy character in the context of this movement
