The relationship between anxiety, depression and self-esteem in women with breast cancer after surgery

    Get PDF
AbstractMost women experience distress during the course of their breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. Psychosocial distress can be related to physical problems like illness or disability, psychological problems, family issues and social concerns related to employment, medical and social insurance, and access to care and other supports. Incidental diagnosis causes stupefaction, disbelief, confusion and a lot of suffering. The traumatic surgery and recovery period than psysical drive to install a depression manifested by social isolation, low self-esteem, anxiety and suicidal thoughts. These can be reduced through experiential counselling

The present paper has as its target to present the regulations characterizing the quality of educational services in higher education, with a view to identifying the system which is the most efficient and revealing for their real quality. This approach also takes into account the central role that key intellectual and cultural responsibilities play in the development of modern society, as well as the moral impact of higher education on society as a whole. The authors reach the conclusion that, in order to have real quality in higher education, it is important to introduce a quality management system and to constantly improve it, using as feedback the satisfaction of clients and other interested parties, with the intention of attaining performance and excellence.excellence, performance, quality management, quality assurance, quality indicators

Optimization of biosynthesis conditions and catalitic behavior evaluation of cellulase-free xylanase produced by a new Streptomyces sp. strain

Cellulase-free xylanase by Streptomyces sp.P12-137 was obtained bycultivation on the wheat bran as the sole carbon source. The effect of carbon and nitrogen sources and a ratio of them on the cellulase-free xylanase production was investigated. The new isolate Streptomyces sp. strain was able to grow in submerged system and to produce an increased level of xylanase. Wheat bran induced xylanase biosynthesis yield at a high level (9.27 UA/ml). For economical reasons cultivation was achieved on a cheap fermentative medium represented by agro-industrial wastes. The optima of the pH and temperature of the crude xylanase activity were 5.5 and 70°C,respectively

Acute Inpatients’ Experiences of Stigma From Psychosis: A Qualitative Exploration.

    Get PDF
Stigma is a common difficulty for those who experience psychosis as they are viewed as most dangerous, unpredictable, and least likely to recover. In particular, experiences of stigma are yet to be explored with inpatients admitted to psychiatric hospital. The aim of this study was to examine subjective experiences of stigma with acute psychiatric inpatients who experience psychosis. Twenty-five psychiatric inpatients with experiences of psychosis were interviewed using a semistructured interview measure to examine their subjective experiences of stigma. The interview schedule enquired about their experiences of stigma and discrimination and the personal impacts this has had. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the qualitative data. The analysis identified 3 superordinate themes: ‘stigmatizing social environment and networks,’ ‘stigmatized person with psychosis,’ and ‘stigma interactions.’ These themes reflected experiences of stigma during the inpatient stay as well as in the community. A graphical representation of these themes and their interaction was developed. Stigma is a concern for acute psychiatric inpatients with psychosis. This concern should be explored in future research, and where appropriate addressed during admission to an acute psychiatric inpatient hospital

Semi-structured Interview Measure of Stigma (SIMS) in psychosis: Assessment of psychometric properties

Stigma is a significant difficulty for people who experience psychosis. To date, there have been no outcome measures developed to examine stigma exclusively in people with psychosis. The aim of this study was develop and validate a semi-structured interview measure of stigma (SIMS) in psychosis. The SIMS is an eleven item measure of stigma developed in consultation with service users who have experienced psychosis. 79 participants with experience of psychosis were recruited for the purposes of this study. They were administered the SIMS alongside a battery of other relevant outcome measures to examine reliability and validity. A one-factor solution was identified for the SIMS which encompassed all ten rateable items. The measure met all reliability and validity criteria and illustrated good internal consistency, inter-rater reliability, test retest reliability, criterion validity, construct validity, sensitivity to change and had no floor or ceiling effects. The SIMS is a reliable and valid measure of stigma in psychosis. It may be more engaging and acceptable than other stigma measures due to its semi-structured interview format

Peer-supported Open Dialogue: a thematic analysis of trainee perspectives on the approach and training

    Get PDF
Background: Open Dialogue (OD) is a Finnish social network based model of care, with practice and organisational aspects. Peer-supported Open Dialogue (POD) is a UK version involving peer workers, whose contributions include building on fragmented social networks. Fifty-four NHS staff undertook the first training in POD between 2014 and 2015. The training course was organised as four separate residential weeks, together with reflective sharing on an online platform. Aims: This study aimed to explore the perspectives of the POD trainees on the training and the POD approach. Methods: At the end of the training year, four focus groups were conducted using a semi-structured interview measure examining trainees’ perspectives on the training and POD approach. A thematic analysis was performed on the transcripts to analyse data. Results: Four superordinate themes emerged: personal experience, practice development, principles of POD, and pedagogical issues, each with a variety of subordinate themes. Conclusions: The course was widely reported as a positive experience, with substantial changes in attitudes and approaches to clinical work arising thus. Across the four superordinate themes, participant responses described a highly experiential course, experienced as an emotional journey which enabled them to embody the principles of POD, as well as use them at work

ESD Knitted Fabrics from Conductive Yarns Used as Protective Garment for Electronic Industry

Nowadays, interest in protection against electrostatic discharge (ESD), regarded as an important issue, is still growing. ESD may lead to serious economic losses and can also be hazardous to humans. In zones where substances with low values of ignition energy occur, ESD may involve a high risk of fire or explosion. Protective clothing is used to reduce the risk of electrostatic discharge (ESD) in electronics industry as well as in explosive atmospheres. In the manufacturing process of electronic products, significant percentage-related failures due to ESD phenomena that occur on the production line, especially where they are not installed systems and rigorous protection rules, are still recorded. Protective clothing with antistatic properties is designed to prevent the transfer of electrical charge from human operator to electronic device during the manufacturing process. In this chapter, a study was conducted about the electrical parameters representative for the control of electrostatic discharges as well as the surface and volume resistivity by applying the current absorption-resorption method and parameters of charge decay using the standardized induction method on several knitted conductive fabrics with carbon yarn. Current absorption-resorption method is applied for the first time in research under antistatic and dissipative fabrics

Eco Bio Cultural Protocols for Preservation of Endangered Agro-biodiversity Areas from the Adjacent Regions of Danube and Danube Delta

    Get PDF
The Danube Strategy involves creating synergies between different sectors (tourism, environmental protection, agriculture and forestry), promoting solutions and contributing to the prosperity of social, economic and cultural sustainable development. It requires multi- interdisciplinary problem solving biodiversity conservation and environmental protection. Agro- biodiversity conservation and means must be assessed according to international risk categories, taking into account the culture, traditions and local lifestyle. Fundamental aspects of the protocols will be to assess species and breeds endangered and their influence on specific ecosystems of the Danube and Danube Delta to promote local tradition and cultural heritage. Our studies will have to reveal new interdependencies between socio- economic phenomena that occur in the context of regional sustainable development and identify viable solutions to ensure the conservation of agro- biodiversity as part of the natural and cultural heritage of the Danube Delta . Need of cooperation between Danube countries and between local authorities and research entities to conserve natural and cultural heritage that can be achieved based on eco-bio-diplomacy.
