    Automatic 3D Model Generation based on a Matching of Adaptive Control Points

    Abstract The use of a 3D model helps to diagnosis and accurately locate a disease where it is neither available, nor can be exactly measured in a 2D image. Therefore, highly accurate software for a 3D model of vessel is required for an accurate diagnosis of patients. We have generated standard vessel because the shape of the arterial is different for each individual vessel, where the standard vessel can be adjusted to suit individual vessel. In this paper, we propose a new approach for an automatic 3D model generation based on a matching of adaptive control points. The proposed method is carried out in three steps. First, standard and individual vessels are acquired. The standard vessel is acquired by a 3D model projection, while the individual vessel of the first segmented vessel bifurcation is obtained. Second is matching the corresponding control points between the standard and individual vessels, where a set of control and corner points are automatically extracted using the Harris corner detector. If control points exist between corner points in an individual vessel, it is adaptively interpolated in the corresponding standard vessel which is proportional to the distance ratio. And then, the control points of corresponding individual vessel match with those control points of standard vessel. Finally, we apply warping on the standard vessel to suit the individual vessel using the TPS (Thin Plate Spline) interpolation function. For experiments, we used angiograms of various patients from a coronary angiography in Sanggye Paik Hospital

    COMPARATIVE GAIT ANALYSIS BETWEEN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM AND AGE MATCHED CONTROLS

    There are very few studies that have analyzed the gait of children with autism. The purpose of this study was to investigate gait of children with autism using temporal-spatial variables. Fifteen children with autism and fifteen age matched typically developing children walked 3 times on the GAITRite® system. Dependent variables were statistically analyzed using independent samples t-tests with Bonferroni adjustments. Results show a reduction in cadence, gait velocity, step length and an increase in step width for the children with autism. In conclusion, our results suggest that the children with autism have abnormal gait compared to age matched controls

    The purpose of this study was to investigate gait patterns of children with autism using temporal-spatial and foot pressure variables. A total of 30 children participated; 15 autistic children and 15 age matched controls. Group differences were tested using an independent t-test performed by SPSS. The cadence and step/extremity ratio was significantly lower for the experimental group than the control group. The step width was wider; while cycle time, double support time, stance time was longer for the experimental group. The active pressure area and maximum pressure in the hind foot were lower for the experimental group. There were reduced gait velocities and reduced pressure areas in the hind foot and mid foot

    New Precision Electroweak Tests in Supergravity Models

    We update the analysis of the precision electroweak tests in terms of 4 epsilon parameters, ϵ1,2,3,b\epsilon_{1,2,3,b}, to obtain more accurate experimental values of them by taking into account the new LEP data released at the 28th ICHEP (1996, Poland). We also compute ϵ1\epsilon_1 and ϵb\epsilon_b in the context of the no-scale SU(5)×U(1)SU(5)\times U(1) supergravity model to obtain the updated constraints by imposing the correlated constraints in terms of the experimental ellipses in the ϵ1ϵb\epsilon_1-\epsilon_b plane and also by imposing the new bound on the lightest chargino mass, mχ1±79m_{\chi^\pm_1}\gtrsim 79 GeV GeV. Upon imposing these new experimental results, we find that the situations in the no-scale model are much more favorable than those in the standard model, and if mt170m_t\gtrsim 170 GeV GeV, then the allowed regions at the 95% C.~L. in the no-scale model are tanβ4\tan\beta\gtrsim 4 and mχ1±120(82)m_{\chi^\pm_1}\lesssim 120 (82) GeV GeV for μ>0(μ<0)\mu>0 (\mu<0), which are in fact much more stringent than in our previous analysis. Therefore, assuming that mt170m_t\gtrsim 170 GeV GeV, if the lightest chargino mass bound were to be pushed up only by a few GeV, the sign on the Higgs mixing term μ\mu in the no-scale model could well be determined from the ϵ1ϵb\epsilon_1-\epsilon_b constraint to be positive at the 95% C.~L. At any rate, better accuracy in the measured mtm_t from the Tevatron in the near future combined with the LEP data is most likely to provide a decisive test of the no-scale SU(5)×U(1)SU(5)\times U(1) supergravity model.Comment: 15 pages, REVTEX, 1 figure (not included but available as a ps file from [email protected]

    Development of Laser Ruler in Rigid Laryngoscope

    ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to develop a new device that provides a simple, noninvasive method of measuring accurate lesion size while using an endoscope.MethodsWe developed a rigid laryngoscope with a built-in laser-ruler using a one-light emitting diode and an acrylic plate. The invention incorporates a built-in laser diode that projects an auto-parallel beam into the optical path of the rigid laryngoscope to form two spots in the field of view.ResultsWhile the interspot distance remains consistent despite changes in focal plane, magnification, or viewing angle of the laryngoscope, projection to an uneven surface introduces certain variations in the shape, and size of the spots, and the distance between the two spots.ConclusionThe device enables a laryngologist to easily measure the distance between landmarks, as well as the change in real size, and the progressive change of vocal fold lesions in an outpatient setting

    THE EFFECTS OF WEARING SPANDEX WEAR WITH COMPRESSION BAND ON MUSCLE ACTIVITY DURING A GOLF SWING

    The purpose of this study was to determine how spandex wear with compressive band affects muscle activities during a golf swing. This study showed that average and maximum nEMG (normalized EMG) values of left AO (external abdominal oblique) were less in EG (experimental group) compared with CG (control group) during back swing, whereas those of left PM (pectoralis major) in EG were greater than CG. It is more likely that EG performed effectively golf swing without excess muscle activity. Thus, the spandex wear with compressive band played an important role in improving swing performance with injury prevention. This has led to suggestions of the need for further kinetic and kinematic analyses to evaluate its function

    The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of a neuromuscular protocol on the prevention of anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury by performing meta-analysis. An extensive literature review was conducted to identify relevant studies, and eventually, only seven randomized controlled trials or prospective cohort studies were included in the analysis. Subgroup analysis revealed that an age under 18, soccer rather than handball, pre- and in-season training rather than either pre or in-season training, and the plyometrics and strengthening components rather than balancing were significant. Metaanalysis showed that pre- and in-season neuromuscular training with an emphasis on plyometrics and strengthening exercises was effective at preventing ACL injury in female athletes, especially in those under 18 years of age

    The purpose of this study was to investigate how spandex garment with compressive band affects kinematic variables during a golf swing. The X-factor and angular velocity of the club in EG were increased during the down swing phase, whereas the significant changes of other kinematic variables were not found in this study. Thus, the effects of wearing spandex garment with compression band cannot be explained as a function of the kinematic variables of interest. It is clear that wearing spandex garment with compressive band may enhance joint stability, which in turn may affect joint kinetics and muscle activation. This has led to suggestions of the need for further kinetic and EMG analyses to evaluate its function

    Targeting ETosis by miR-155 inhibition mitigates mixed granulocytic asthmatic lung inflammation

    Asthma is phenotypically heterogeneous with several distinctive pathological mechanistic pathways. Previous studies indicate that neutrophilic asthma has a poor response to standard asthma treatments comprising inhaled corticosteroids. Therefore, it is important to identify critical factors that contribute to increased numbers of neutrophils in asthma patients whose symptoms are poorly controlled by conventional therapy. Leukocytes release chromatin fibers, referred to as extracellular traps (ETs) consisting of double-stranded (ds) DNA, histones, and granule contents. Excessive components of ETs contribute to the pathophysiology of asthma; however, it is unclear how ETs drive asthma phenotypes and whether they could be a potential therapeutic target. We employed a mouse model of severe asthma that recapitulates the intricate immune responses of neutrophilic and eosinophilic airway inflammation identified in patients with severe asthma. We used both a pharmacologic approach using miR-155 inhibitor-laden exosomes and genetic approaches using miR-155 knockout mice. Our data show that ETs are present in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of patients with mild asthma subjected to experimental subsegmental bronchoprovocation to an allergen and a severe asthma mouse model, which resembles the complex immune responses identified in severe human asthma. Furthermore, we show that miR-155 contributes to the extracellular release of dsDNA, which exacerbates allergic lung inflammation, and the inhibition of miR-155 results in therapeutic benefit in severe asthma mice. Our findings show that targeting dsDNA release represents an attractive therapeutic target for mitigating neutrophilic asthma phenotype, which is clinically refractory to standard care

    High Grade Hemangioendothelioma of the Temporal Bone in a Child: A Case Report

    Hemangioendothelioma is a rare vascular tumor characterized by endothelial tumor cells and variable malignant behavior, and it's not common for this lesion to involve the bone. Although there are a few reports of cranial involvement by hemangioendothelioma, only rare cases arising in temporal bone have been published. We present the radiologic findings of a 7-year-old boy who had a high grade hemangioendothelioma involving the temporal bone with intracranial extension. Evidence of flow voids on MR images suggested a tumor of vascular origin, and the ill-defined margins, cortical destruction and intracranial extension on the CT and MR images were correlated with the tumor's high histologic grade
