The fat and protein content of the sheep milk under different conditions
In Hungary the Hungarian Combing Merino has been and still is the most common sheep breed. In
order to increase the milk production traits, especially the milk components, several crossings were made. In an
experiment lasting three years the fat, protein and dry matter contents of the milk produced by ewes belonging to
different genotypes: Merino, (Merino x East-Friesian) F1, (Merino x Langhe) F1, (Merino x Sarda) F1, (Merino x
Pleven) F1 and (Merino x Awassi) F1 were studied. The test milkings of the ewes were carried out fortnightly,
twice a day. From the study the following conclusions could be drawn: (i) the East-Friesian F1 ewes produced
the largest amount of fat, protein and dry matter in their milk; followed by Langhe F1, Sarda F1, Pleven F1,
Awassi F1 and Merinos in the ranking; (ii) the improvement in conditions gave an increased yield of the studied
traits; and (iii) the pre-selection of Merinos on the basis of milk production should be made prior to the start of
crossbreeding considering to increase the milk production traits

Pushing the limits: K2 observations of the trans-Neptunian objects 2002 GV31 and (278361) 2007 JJ43
We present the first photometric observations of trans-Neptunian objects
(TNOs) taken with the Kepler space telescope, obtained in the course of the K2
ecliptic survey. Two faint objects have been monitored in specifically designed
pixel masks that were centered on the stationary points of the objects, when
their daily motion was the slowest. In the design of the experiment, only the
apparent path of these objects were retrieved from the detectors, i.e. the
costs in terms of Kepler pixels were minimized. Because of the faintness of the
targets we employ specific reduction techniques and co-added images. We measure
rotational periods and amplitudes in the unfiltered Kepler band as follows: for
(278361) 2007 JJ43 and 2002 GV31 we get P_rot=12.097 h and P_rot=29.2 h while
0.10 and 0.35 mag for the total amplitudes, respectively. Future space
missions, like TESS and PLATO are not well suited to this kind of observations.
Therefore, we encourage to include the brightest TNOs around their stationary
points in each observing campaign to exploit this unique capability of the K2
Mission -- and therefore to provide unbiased rotational, shape and albedo
characteristics of many objects.Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ Letters, 5.2 pages in emulateapj

Enrichment of pineapple aroma compounds from model solutions by sweeping-gas and vacuum-pervaporation
Our experiments were based on a model solution containing five of the main pineapple aroma components. Both sweeping-gas pervaporation and vacuum-pervaporation methods were carried out. Measurements were performed at different temperatures and feed flow rates. The purposes of this study were to examine applicability of the two pervaporation methods in reference to the pineapple aroma recovery, the effects of the operating parameters on the process, and modelling the pervaporation process by resistance-in-series model. Higher enrichment could be reached with vacuum-pervaporation than the sweeping-gas method. The separation process is determined by the diffusion of compounds in the membrane, thus the resistance in the boundary layer at liquid side is negligible. Based on performed experiments, the pervaporation process can be applied in beverage industry for aroma recovery
More frequencies of KUV 02464+3239
Preliminary results on KUV 02464+3239, a pulsating DA white dwarf are
presented. Located near the red edge of the DAV instability strip, KUV
02464+3239 shows large amplitude and long period pulsation modes. Up to now
only one mode was known from a 50-minute-long light curve. Our more extended
observations allowed the identification of three additional frequencies. The
presence of previously known harmonics were confirmed and weak subharmonics are
also noticeable at some parts of the light curve. This suggests the dominance
of nonlinear pulsation effects from time to time.Comment: 3 pages, 3 eps figures; has been accepted for publication in
