Implications of unitarity and precision measurements on CKM matrix elements

    Get PDF
Unitarity along with precision measurements of sin2\beta, V_{us} and V_{cb} allows one to find a lower bound V_{ub}\geq 0.0035 which, on using the recently measured angle \alpha of the unitarity triangle, translates to V_{ub}= 0.0035\pm 0.0002. This precise value, stable for a good deal of changes in \alpha, along with CP violating phase \delta found from unitarity allows the construction of a `precise' CKM matrix. The above unitarity based value of V_{ub} is in agreement with the latest exclusive value used as input by UTfit, CKMfitter, HFAG, however underlines the so called `tension' faced by the latest inclusive V_{ub}=0.00449 \pm 0.00033. Further, using this inclusive value of V_{ub} along with the latest sin2\beta, one finds \delta=23 ^{\rm o}- 39 ^{\rm o}, again in conflict with \delta measured in B-decays. The calculated ranges of the elements of the CKM matrix are in excellent agreement with those obtained recently by UTfit, CKMfitter and HFAG. Also, the ratio \frac{V_{ts}}{V_{td}} is in agreement with its latest measured value, whereas there is some disagreement between the `measured' and the calculated V_{td} values.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figure, incorporated latest dat

Impact of Blowing Location on the Aerodynamic Characteristics Over the Delta Wing

    Get PDF
The performance of an aircraft can be enhanced by altering the flow field favourably by adopting flow control techniques. The present study deals with the application of the active flow control methods on a sharp-edged delta wing with a wing sweep of 65°. The concept of blowing was employed as an active flow control technique. The blowing technique is applied on the suction surface of the delta wing by varying its location. The various identified locations of the blowing holes are 1.62 %, 3.24 % and 4.86 % of root chord from the leading edge to the centre of the blowing holes. The computation is performed using the commercial software ANSYS Fluent. An unsteady, incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation and the shear-stress transport k-ω turbulence model are employed. The angles of attack varied in the range of 0°<α<35° and Reynolds number is 2.64×106 and the jet momentum coefficient is fixed at 0.05. The blowing of air from the injection region enhances the strength of the leading-edge vortices, resulting in a delay in the vortex breakdown. The performance of the delta wing is greatly improved while using the blowing method specifically for the blowing holes located at 3.24 % of root chord from the leading edge compared to without the blowing method

Morphological Image Processing GUI using MATLAB

    Get PDF
In this paper, we present an overview of Morphological Image Processing and edge detection using gradient based on different operators in MATLAB and developed its GUI (Graphical User Interface). This paper describes the basic technological aspects of Digital Image Processing with reference to Morphological techniques used in image processing. The word morphology commonly denotes a branch of biology that deals with the form and structure of animals and plants. Morphological processing refers to certain operations where an object is hit with a structuring element and thereby reduced to a more revealing shape [2]. Morphology is related to the shapes and digital morphology is a way to describe and analyze the shape of a digital object in image processing. Morphological image processing GUI deals with the detection of X-Ray images and its edge detection process. The complete image processing is done using MATLAB Graphical User Interface Development Environment (GUIDE)

PROGNOSTIC BIOMARKERS IN TRIPLE NEGATIVE BREAST CANCER AS A POTENTIAL TARGET FOR FUTURE DRUG DISCOVERY

    Get PDF
Breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women globally, in which triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is more aggressive with poor prognosis and very less response to targeted hormone based treatment. It is a major cause of deaths among the women with breast cancer because of very few treatment options. The biomarkers could be a product of cancerous cell or molecule generated in response to cancer. It is used to understand the mechanism, prognosis, diagnosis as well as target for design and discovery of new drugs. The purpose of the study is to give a brief review onmarkers of TNBC

Background: Acute poisoning is one of the commonest Pediatric emergencies and an important cause of morbidity and mortality. This study is aimed at understanding the incidence, aetiology and manner of poisoning, outcome among children less than 18 years reporting to Pediatric department at sub district Hospital level in Jammu region. Methods: All the children between one month and eighteen years of age reporting to the Pediatric Emergency of SDH Akhnoor, Jammu over a period of one year as a case of acute poisoning were included in the study. The information obtained from subjects/parents/guardians and examinations of subjects was recorded on a pretested proforma and analyzed. Results: A total of 150 patients were admitted as a case of poisoning over a study period of one year. Male: Female ratio was 1.41:1. Total incidence rate was 2.94/100 0 population over a period of one year. Majority of the cases were accidental (94.67%) while suicidal attempt cases were 5.33%. Most the cases (49.33%) were due to accidental ingestion of household products followed by drug ingestion (21.33%), food poisoning (14%) and then agricultural/industrial products (8%). Maximum patients (86.6%) recovered while 2% referred to higher centre and rest 11.3% either absconded or lost to follow up.Conclusions: Acute poisoning in children is usually accidental with favourable outcome. Death can happen depending upon nature of poison and the stage at which the patient is brought to the hospital. Poisoning can be prevented by increasing public awareness, counselling and right guidance to the parents.

Primary Non-Hodgkin's Malignant Lymphoma of the Sinonasal Tract

Primary non-Hodgkin’s lymphomas (NHL) of the sinonasal tract are rather uncommon entities. Morphologically and radiographically, sinonasal lymphomas are difficult to distinguish from other malignant neoplasms or non- neoplastic processes. They have a variable presentation from fulminant destructive manifestations to chronic indolent type of disease and may mimic as carcinomas and invasive fungal infection respectively. We report a case of primary NHL involving sinonasal tract in elderly female, which was clinically and radiologically mimicking as sinonasal malignany and was proven as NHL on histological examination and confirmed by immunohistochemistry. A high index of suspicion, appropriate histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry is necessary to differentiate sinonasal lymphomas from other possibilities. Failure to do so may miss the diagnosis and delay appropriate treatmen
