Nuclear shape dependence of Gamow-Teller distributions in neutron-deficient Pb isotopes

    Get PDF
We study Gamow-Teller strength distributions in the neutron-deficient even isotopes (184-194)Pb in a search for signatures of deformation. The microscopic formalism used is based on a deformed quasiparticle random phase approximation (QRPA) approach, which involves a self-consistent quasiparticle deformed Skyrme Hartree-Fock (HF) basis and residual spin-isospin forces in both the particle-hole and particle-particle channels. By analyzing the sensitivity of the Gamow-Teller strength distributions to the various ingredients in the formalism, we conclude that the beta-decay of these isotopes could be a useful tool to look for fingerprints of nuclear deformation.Comment: 20 pages, 11 figures. Scaling Function, Spectral Function and Nucleon Momentum Distribution in Nuclei

    Get PDF
The link between the scaling function extracted from the analysis of (e,e') cross sections and the spectral function/momentum distribution in nuclei is revisited. Several descriptions of the spectral function based on the independent particle model are employed, together with the inclusion of nucleon correlations, and effects of the energy dependence arising from the width of the hole states are investigated. Although some of these approaches provide rough overall agreement with data, they are not found to be capable of reproducing one of the distinctive features of the experimental scaling function, namely its asymmetry. However, the addition of final-state interactions, incorporated in the present study using either relativistic mean field theory or via a complex optical potential, does lead to asymmetric scaling functions in accordance with data. The present analysis seems to indicate that final-state interactions constitute an essential ingredient and are required to provide a proper description of the experimental scaling function.Comment: 29 pages, 13 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

Superscaling and Neutral Current Quasielastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering beyond the Relativistic Fermi Gas Model

    Get PDF
The superscaling analysis is extended to include quasielastic (QE) scattering via the weak neutral current of neutrinos and antineutrinos from nuclei. The scaling function obtained within the coherent density fluctuation model (used previously in calculations of QE inclusive electron and charge-changing (CC) neutrino scattering) is applied to neutral current neutrino and antineutrino scattering with energies of 1 GeV from 12^{12}C with a proton and neutron knockout (u-channel inclusive processes). The results are compared with those obtained using the scaling function from the relativistic Fermi gas model and the scaling function as determined from the superscaling analysis (SuSA) of QE electron scattering.Comment: 10 pages, 6 figures, published in Phys. Superscaling in dilute Fermi gas and its relation to general properties of the nucleon momentum distribution in nuclei

    Get PDF
The superscaling observed in inclusive electron scattering is described within the dilute Fermi gas model with interaction between the particles. The comparison with the relativistic Fermi gas (RFG) model without interaction shows an improvement in the explanation of the scaling function f(ψ)f(\psi ') in the region ψ<1\psi ' < -1, where the RFG result is f(ψ)=0f(\psi ') = 0. It is found that the behavior of f(ψ)f(\psi ') for ψ<1\psi ' < -1 depends on the particular form of the general power-law asymptotics of the momentum distribution n(k)1/k4+mn(k)\sim 1/ k^{4+m} at large kk. The best agreement with the empirical scaling function is found for m4.5m\simeq 4.5 in agreement with the asymptotics of n(k)n(k) in the coherent density fluctuation model where m=4m = 4. Thus, superscaling gives information about the asymptotics of n(k)n(k) and the NN forces.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

Anomalous Spreading of Power-Law Quantum Wave Packets

We introduce power-law tail quantum wave packets. We show that they can be seen as eigenfunctions of a Hamiltonian with a physical potential. We prove that the free evolution of these packets presents an asymptotic decay of the maximum of the wave packets which is anomalous for an interval of the characterizing power-law exponent. We also prove that the number of finite moments of the wave packets is a conserved quantity during the evolution of the wave packet in the free space.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Polyphenolic and chromatic characterization of tropical red wines produced in the São Francisco river Valley (Northeast Brazil).

Young varietal and experimental wines from Vitis vinifera - Petit Verdot,Tempranillo and Syrah - cultivated in a tropical semiarid region (Northeast Brazil) were evaluated with regard to their phenolic composition and chromatic characteristics during a storage period of 12-month. The wine was stored in bottles and evaluated using spectrophotometry and high efficiency liquid chromatography to determine color, total polyphenols, anthocyanins, flavanols and flavonols. The Petit Verdot had a less color variation when compared to wines from temperate climates. Although the wines followed the traditional pattem of decreasing polyphenol concentration during storage, the concentrations of these compounds remained higher than those reported in literature, such as for the anthocyanins in Petit Verdot wines and transresveratrolin Syrah, showing possible beneficial health effects even after storag
