    Inorganic polyphosphate accumulation by Cunninghamella elegans (UCP 542) and its influence in the decolorization of textile azo dye Orange II

    The inappropriate disposal of dyes in wastewater constitutes an environmental problem and can cause damage to the ecosystem. Alternative treatments have been reported that employ fungi that are particularly effective in the decolorization of textile effluents. In these methods, the biomass can be used for industrial removal of dyes by biosorption. The current study has investigated the accumulation of polyphosphate (poly P) in the fungus Cunninghamella elegans UCP 542 and evaluated the capacity of the inactivated biomass, obtained from 144 h of incubation, to decolorize the dye Orange II. The results suggest the transport of the inorganic phosphorus, as demonstrated through the cellular bioaccumulation. The biochemical and physiological aspects of bioaccumulation in the poly P form were related to the process of removal of the color of Orange II, with the reduction of 60 % of the dye solution.15117918

    Trevor Disease (Hemimelic Epiphyseal Displasia): 12‑year Follow‑up Case Report and Literature Review

    Trevor disease or hemimelic epiphyseal dysplasia is a rare skeletal developmental disorder characterized by asymmetric overgrowth of cartilage in the epiphyses. Histologically, it is an epiphysis osteochondroma. The symptom onset occurs primarily during childhood.  Males are 3 times more affected than females. The most common symptom is a painless bony mass around the ankle or knee, followed by swelling, restricted range of motion and deformity. Imaging diagnosis is based on plain radiographs, computed tomography scans and magnetic resonance imaging. Treatment depends on the deformities, symptoms, location and amount of epiphysis involvement. Asymptomatic patients require no treatment. When no deformities are identified, simple mass excision is the treatment choice. If the mass causes epiphyses asymmetry, resection must be combined with osteotomies. The present study reports a case of Trevor disease in a female patient with 12‑year follow‑up.     Influence of additional adhesive application on the microtensile bond strength of adhesive systems

    This study evaluated microtensile bond strength (pTBS) when an additional adhesive layer was applied to the dentin surface. Thirty-five human third molars were flattened to expose the occlusal dentin surface. The teeth were randomly assigned to 7 experimental groups: G1-Single Bond (SB); G2-additional layer of SB; G3-a layer of Scotchbond Multi-purpose (SAW) adhesive applied over SB; G4-Clearfil SE Bond (CE); G5-additional layer of CE; G6-Adper Prompt (AP) and G7-additional layer of AP, For the G2, G3, G5 and G7 groups, the first adhesive layer was light-cured before application of the additional layer. After bonding procedures, 5-mm high composite crowns were incrementally built up. The samples were sectioned to obtain 0.9 x 0.9 beams, which were tested under tension at a crosshead speed of 0.5-mm/minute until failure. The failure mode and adhesive thickness were evaluated under SEM. The mu TBS data were analyzed by 1-way ANOVA and post-hoc Ducan's Test (alpha=0.05). Mean adhesive thickness was analyzed by 1-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey's test (alpha=0.05). The results indicated that G3 presented the highest mu TBS and the thickest adhesive layer. G6 and G7 presented the lowest mu TBS values. When solvent-free adhesives systems were used, mu TBS values were not affected by the thicker layer.31556256

    Search for Associations Containing Young stars (SACY): Chemical tagging IC 2391 & the Argus association

    We explore the possible connection between the open cluster IC 2391 and the unbound Argus association identified by the SACY survey. In addition to common kinematics and ages between these two systems, here we explore their chemical abundance patterns to confirm if the two substructures shared a common origin. We carry out a homogenous high-resolution elemental abundance study of eight confirmed members of IC 2391 as well as six members of the Argus association using UVES spectra. We derive spectroscopic stellar parameters and abundances for Fe, Na, Mg, Al, Si, Ca, Ti, Cr, Ni and Ba. All stars in the open cluster and Argus association were found to share similar abundances with the scatter well within the uncertainties, where [Fe/H] = -0.04 +/-0.03 for cluster stars and [Fe/H] = -0.06 +/-0.05 for Argus stars. Effects of over-ionisation/excitation were seen for stars cooler than roughly 5200K as previously noted in the literature. Also, enhanced Ba abundances of around 0.6 dex were observed in both systems. The common ages, kinematics and chemical abundances strongly support that the Argus association stars originated from the open cluster IC 2391. Simple modeling of this system find this dissolution to be consistent with two-body interactions

    Bond Strength to High-Crystalline Content Zirconia After Different Surface Treatments

    Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of primers, luting systems and aging on bond strength to zirconium oxide substrates. Eighteen zirconia discs (19.5 x 4 mm) were polished and treated (n = 3) either with a MDP primer (Md) or with a MDP and VBATDT primer (MV). In the control group (n = 3) no surface chemical treatment was performed. Zirconia specimens were cemented to prepolymerized composite discs utilizing resin cements - RelyX Unicem or Panavia 21 (RU and Pa. respectively). After 24 h. samples were sectioned for microtensile testing and returned to water at 37 degrees C for two different periods before being tested: 72 h or 60 days + thermocycling (5-55 degrees C/5000 cycles). Bond strength testing was performed at 1 mm/min. Values in MPa were analyzed through ANOVA and Tukey's Studentized Range (HSD) (p > 0.05). The application of MV primer resulted in the highest bond strength (22.77 MPa), statistically superior to Md primer (12.78 MPa), and control groups presented the lowest values (9.17 MPa). When luting systems were compared, RU promoted the highest bond strength (16.07 MPa) in comparison with Pa (13.75 MPa). The average bond strength decrease after aging (9.35 MPa) when compared with initial values (20.46 MPa). The results presented by this in vitro study suggest that a chemical surface treatment based on the MDP and VBATDT combination may improve bond strength between zirconia and luting system, without any previous mechanical treatment, depending on the luting system used. This chemical treatment may result in a reliable alternative to achieve adequate and durable bond strength.
