    The contribution of 7q33 copy number variations for intellectual disability

    Copy number variations (CNVs) at the 7q33 cytoband are very rarely described in the literature, and almost all of the cases comprise large deletions affecting more than just the q33 segment. We report seven patients (two families with two siblings and their affected mother and one unrelated patient) with neurodevelopmental delay associated with CNVs in 7q33 alone. All the patients presented mild to moderate intellectual disability (ID), dysmorphic features, and a behavioral phenotype characterized by aggressiveness and disinhibition. One family presents a small duplication in cis affecting CALD1 and AGBL3 genes, while the other four patients carry two larger deletions encompassing EXOC4, CALD1, AGBL3, and CNOT4. This work helps to refine the phenotype and narrow the minimal critical region involved in 7q33 CNVs.     C-terminal binding proteins: Emerging roles in cell survival and tumorigenesis

    Within a cell, the levels and activity of multiple pro- and anti-apoptotic molecules act in concert to regulate commitment to apoptosis. Whilst the balance between survival and death can be tipped by the effects of single molecules, cellular apoptosis control pathways very often incorporate key transcription factors that co-ordinately regulate the expression of multiple apoptosis control genes. C-terminal binding proteins (CtBPs), which were originally identified through their binding to the Adenovirus E1A oncoprotein, have been described as such transcriptional regulators of the apoptosis program. Specifically, CtBPs function as transcriptional co-repressors, and have been demonstrated to promote cell survival by suppressing the expression of several pro-apoptotic genes. In this review we summarize the evidence supporting a key role for CtBP proteins in cell survival. We also describe the known mechanisms of transcriptional control by CtBPs, and review the multiplicity of intracellular signaling and transcriptional control pathways with which they are known to be involved. Finally we consider these findings in the context of additional known roles of CtBP molecules, and the potential implications that this combined knowledge may have for our comprehension of diseases of cell survival, notably cance

    The Self-Concept Life Cycle and Brand Perceptions: An Interdisciplinary Perspective

    Consumer research has paid scant attention to the full spectrum of a consumer’s self-concept life cycle and its subsequent impact on brand attitude. This article presents a conceptual framework that provides the foundation for future research on how the self-concept, across its full life cycle, impacts brand attitude. The article considers the development of the self-concept from childhood to late adulthood, and integrates findings from various disciplines into a comprehensive framework. The factors in the framework affecting the self-concept are global culture, life events, as well as cognitive and desired age. The article offers six propositions to guide future research and encourage more interdisciplinary work, as well as guiding the application of a broader perspective in terms of the self-concept’s full life-span. Moreover, the article also presents methodological and managerial implications on how to use branding approaches that target specific consumer segments according to their self-concepts’ life cycle
