Stratifications of abelian categories

This paper studies abelian categories that can be decomposed into smaller abelian categories via iterated recollements - such a decomposition we call a stratification. Examples include the categories of (equivariant) perverse sheaves and epsilon-stratified categories (in particular highest weight categories) in the sense of Brundan-Stroppel (2018). We give necessary and sufficient conditions for an abelian category with a stratification to be equivalent to a category of finite dimensional modules of a finite dimensional algebra - this generalizes the main result of Cipriani-Woolf (2022). Furthermore, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for such a category to be epsilon-stratified - this generalizes the characterisation of highest weight categories given by Krause (2017)

Nanoscale density fluctuations in swift heavy ion irradiated amorphous SiO2

We report on the observation of nanoscale density fluctuations in 2 μm thick amorphous SiO₂ layers irradiated with 185 MeV Au ions. At high fluences, in excess of approximately 5 × 10¹² ions/cm², where the surface is completely covered by ion tracks, synchrotron small angle x-ray scattering measurements reveal the existence of a steady state of density fluctuations. In agreement with molecular dynamics simulations, this steady state is consistent with an ion track “annihilation” process, where high-density regions generated in the periphery of new tracks fill in low-density regions located at the center of existing tracks.The authors acknowledge the Australian Research Council and the Australian Synchrotron Research Program for financial support and thank the staff at the ANU Heavy Ion facility for their continued technical assistance. Formation and structural characterization of Ni nanoparticles embedded in SiO₂

Face-centered cubic Ni nanoparticles were formed in SiO₂ by ion implantation and thermal annealing. Small-angle x-ray scattering in conjunction with transmission electron microscopy was used to determine the nanoparticle size as a function of annealing temperature, whereas the local atomic structure was measured with x-ray absorption spectroscopy. The influence of finite-size effects on the nanoparticle structural properties was readily apparent and included a decrease in coordination number and bond length and an increase in structural disorder for decreasing nanoparticle size. Such results are consistent with the non-negligible surface-to-volume ratio characteristic of nanoparticles. In addition, temperature-dependent x-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements showed the mean vibrational frequency (as obtained from the Einstein temperature) decreased with decreasing nanoparticle size. This reduction was attributed to the greater influence of the loosely bound, under-coordinated surface atoms prevailing over the effects of capillary pressure, the former enhancing the low frequency modes of the vibrational density of statesThis work was financially supported by the Australian Synchrotron and the Australian Research Council with access to equipment provided by the Australian Nanofabrication Facility

Stratified Categories and a Geometric Approach to Representations of the Schur Algebra

In this thesis we present three new results: (i) We define a stratification of abelian categories as an iterated system of recollements of abelian categories. This definition generalises the definitions of categories of (equivariant) perverse sheaves as well as epsilon-stratified categories (and in particular highest weight categories) in the sense of Brundan-Stroppel (2018). We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a stratification of abelian categories to be equivalent to a category of finite dimensional modules of a finite dimensional algebra - this generalises the main result of Cipriani-Woolf (2022). (ii) We define a product of Schur algebra modules that corresponds under Schur-Weyl duality to the Kronecker product of symmetric group modules. This new product is a Schur algebra module theoretic version of Krause’s (2013) internal product on the category of homogeneous strict polynomial functors. (iii) We give a characteristic-free version of Ginzburg’s (1997) construction of the Schur algebra via the convolution product on the Borel-Moore homology of smooth varieties related to the nilpotent cone, N, in gl_n. As an application, we give a new proof of Mautner’s (2014) equivalence of categories between GL_n -equivariant perverse sheaves on N and a category of Schur algebra modules

Avaliação da atividade microbiana anaeróbia submetida a substratos preferenciais

Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental.O tratamento de esgotos consiste na remoção de poluentes por intermédio de diversos mecanismos para que o efluente gerado possa retornar ao meio sem degradação ambiental. O processo biológico anaeróbio pode ser utilizado no tratamento dos esgotos e de lodos de estação de tratamento dos esgotos em virtude de suas vantagens que incluem a produção do biogás resultante da atividade biológica dos microrganismos presentes neste sistema. Este trabalho buscou avaliar a atividade destes microorganismos acidogênicos, acetogênicos e metanogênicos quando submetidos a diferentes substratos preferenciais, com o intuito de identificar à produção de biogás e a eficiência do processo biológico, por intermédio de monitoramento da produção de gás metano e por analise laboratorial de DQO e ácidos orgânicos voláteis. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida em um sistema experimental de bancada em batelada, operado com temperatura mesofílica (35°C), tendo o inóculo oriundo da ETE da Lagoa da Conceição de Florianópolis, seguindo como roteiro o teste de avaliação especifica de microorganismos. O reator acidogênico apresentou a maior velocidade de remoção de carga orgânica aplicada com valor médio de 65,48 mgO2/L.h., os microrganismos apresentam tempo de resposta efetiva do sistema de doze dias para a produção de metano, os reatores metanogênicos, apresentaram maiores valores médios de produção de metano acumulado (241,6 mL) seguidos de acetogênicos (215,92 mL) e acidogênicos (142,05 mL) e as velocidades específicas máximas de produção de metano foi de 1,47CH4/gSSV pelos acidogênicos e de 0,30 mL CH4/gSSV.d pelos acetogênicos e metanogênicos

O papel pedagógico e educacional de perfis não-binários no Instagram

A manutenção de uma lógica cisheteronormativa branca dentro da sociedade aciona uma série de instituições que precisam articular ações para preservar a naturalidade dos comportamentos presentes em um pensamento binário. Romper com essa binariedade não é algo simples, principalmente pela falta de visibilidade de possibilidades de se fazer no mundo. As redes sociais se tornaram um ambiente pedagógico, para esses fins, trazendo luz para outras existências de gênero, causando provocações e tensionamentos que espaços mais tradicionais, como a televisão, evitam apresentar. Neste artigo, foram analisados dois perfis que abordam a vivência não-binária para entender como eles desempenham essa proposta pedagógica de rompimento da binaridade de gênero a partir de propostas tensionadas pela Teoria Queer
