Overlapping guaranteed cost control for uncertain continuous-time delayed systems

    Get PDF
Overlapping guaranteed cost control design problem is solved for a class of linear continuous-time uncertain systems with state as well as control delays. Unknown arbitrarily time-varying uncertainties with known bounds are considered. A point delay is supposed. Conditions preserving closed-loop systems expansion-contraction relations including the identical bounds of performance indices are proved. A linear matrix inequality (LMI) delay independent procedure is used for control design in the expanded space. The results are specialized on the overlapping decentralized control design. A numerical illustrative example is supplied.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Controllability-observability of expanded composite systems

The relation between original and expanded systems within the Inclusion Principle from the point of view of controllability–observability of both subsystems and composite systems is studied. It is proved that complementary matrices always exist ensuring that the subsystems and the overall expanded system are simultaneously controllable–observable. Two practically important large classes of complementary matrices are identified to offer results computationally attractive. First, the existence of complementary matrices ensuring controllability–observability of decoupled subsystems is proved. Then, using this result, the same property is proved for the composite expanded system.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

A design procedure for overlapped guaranteed cost controllers

This work has been accepted to IFAC for publication under a Creative Commons Licence CC-BY-NC-NDIn this paper a quadratic guaranteed cost control problem for a class of linear continuous-time state-delay systems with norm-bounded uncertainties is considered. We will suppose that the systems are composed by two overlapped subsystems but the results can be easily extended to any number of subsystems. The main objective is to design overlapping guaranteed cost controllers with tridiagonal gain matrices for these kind of systems by using a linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. With this idea in mind, we present a design strategy to reduce the computational burden and to increase the feasibility in the LMI problem. In this context, the use of so-called complementary matrices play an important role. A simple example to illustrate the advantages achieved by using the proposed method is supplied.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

La diversidad (in)visible.

A novel planning approach for the water, sanitation and hygiene (WaSH) sector: the use of object-oriented bayesian networks

    Get PDF
Conventional approaches to design and plan water, sanitation, and hygiene (WaSH) interventions are not suitable for capturing the increasing complexity of the context in which these services are delivered. Multidimensional tools are needed to unravel the links between access to basic services and the socio-economic drivers of poverty. This paper applies an object-oriented Bayesian network to reflect the main issues that determine access to WaSH services. A national Program in Kenya has been analyzed as initial case study. The main findings suggest that the proposed approach is able to accommodate local conditions and to represent an accurate reflection of the complexities of WaSH issues, incorporating the uncertainty intrinsic to service delivery processes. Results indicate those areas in which policy makers should prioritize efforts and resources. Similarly, the study shows the effects of sector interventions, as well as the foreseen impact of various scenarios related to the national Program.Preprin

These failures are described by a model that considers possible outages or partial failures in every single actuator of each decentralised controller. The control design is performed through two steps. First, a decentralised reliable guaranteed cost control set is derived and, second, a feasible linear matrix inequalities procedure is presented for the effective construction of the control set. A numerical example illustrates the efficiency of the proposed control schemePeer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Horn axiomatizations for sequential data

    Get PDF
AbstractWe propose a notion of deterministic association rules for ordered data. We prove that our proposed rules can be formally justified by a purely logical characterization, namely, a natural notion of empirical Horn approximation for ordered data which involves background Horn conditions; these ensure the consistency of the propositional theory obtained with the ordered context. The whole framework resorts to concept lattice models from Formal Concept Analysis, but adapted to ordered contexts. We also discuss a general method to mine these rules that can be easily incorporated into any algorithm for mining closed sequences, of which there are already some in the literature

In this short paper we present sufficient conditions for the order regularity problem in Birkhoff interpolation with lacunary polynomials. These conditions are a generalization of the Atkinson-Sharma theorem.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Get PDF
