Spinning Higher Dimensional Einstein-Yang-Mills black holes

    Get PDF
We construct a Kerr-Newman-like spacetimes starting from higher dimensional (HD) Einstein-Yang-Mills black holes via complex transformations suggested by Newman-Janis. The new metrics are HD generalization of Kerr-Newman spacetimes which has a geometry precisely that of Kerr-Newman in 4D corresponding to Yang-Mills (YM) gauge charge, but the sign of charge term gets flipped in the HD spacetimes. It is interesting to note that gravitational contribution of YM gauge charge, in HD, is indeed opposite (attractive rather than repulsive) that of Maxwell charge. The effect of YM gauge charge on the structure and location of static limit surface and apparent horizon is discussed. We find that static limit surfaces become less prolate with increase in dimensions and are also sensitive to YM gauge charge thereby affecting the shape of ergosphere. We also analyze some thermodynamical properties of these BHs.Comment: Accepted for publication in EPJ

Testing LSND at long-baseline neutrino experiments

Recently it was suggested that two very different mass-squared differences play a role in atmospheric neutrino oscillations. The larger of these also accounts for the LSND result and the smaller of these also drives the solar neutrino oscillations. We consider the predictions of this scheme for long-baseline experiments. We find that high statistics experiments, such as MINOS, can observe a clean signal for this scheme, which is clearly distinguishable from the usual scheme of atmospheric neutrino oscillations driven by a single mass-squared difference.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figure

Cultural Elements of Agricultural People found in Periyapuranam

    Get PDF
Periyapuranam is a Tamil text, although the text is seen as a devotional literature, it can be considered as a historical treasury of Tamil Nadu in order to explain the culture of Tamils. In such a way this article helps us to know the cultural elements of agriculturalists in the Nayanmar period. It clearly shows the devotion of the Nayanmars and their attachment to the lord. While discussing the history of the Nayanmars the wealth of the city and country, the professions and the noble deeds of the servants are revealed. The article gives a clear information about agriculture which is the basic occupation of Tamil people

    Agriculture in ‘Periyapuranam’

Sekkizhar, very religious in nature, was deeply affected by Kulothunga Cholan II's reading of ‘Sivaga Chinthamani’. He advised the king to give up his pursuit of blasphemous sensual literature and instead return to the lives of Saiva sages celebrated by Sundaramurthy Nayanar and Nambiandar Nambi. The king then invited Sekkizhar to describe the lives of the Saiva sages in a great poem. After studying the lives of the sages, and collecting the data, he wrote poetry in the thousand-pillared hall of the Chidambaram temple. The legend has it that the Lord gave the first phase of the first verse to Sekkizhar as a divine voice from heaven, proclaiming "Ulahelam" (the whole world). This work is considered to be the most important effort of the reign of Kulothunga Cholan II. Although Sundarar and Nambiandar Nambi composed an earlier literary composition of Saiva sages, it was considered to epitomise the high standards of Chola culture. For, the highest order of literary style, the Periyapuranam is regarded as the fifth Veda in Tamil, and immediately takes its place as the twelfth and last book of the Saiva catalogue. It is considered one of the masterpieces of Tamil literature and is considered to commemorate the golden age of the Cholas. The Periyapuranam, also known as Thiruthondapuranam, is that which explains about 63 Nayanmars (saintly devotees) and 9 Thokaiyadiyaars (group of devotees). By telling their life story, the social culture of the Tamil people has also been explained. This review article deals with the life of the Nayanmars, especially the agricultural culture. Agriculture starts from planting, harvesting and giving rise to a soulful life. The agricultural system consists of the steps of ploughing, planting, irrigation, fertilizing, fencing, and conservation. This review highlights that these methods are derived from the lived experience of the culture

Are plants with anti-cancer activity resistant to crown gall? : A test of hypothesis

    Get PDF
The Crown gall tumour assay (CGTA) is one of several bench top bioassays recommended for the rapid screening of plants with anti-cancer activity. The rationale for the use of the bioassay is that the tumorogenic mechanism initiated in plant tissues by _Agrobacterium tumefaciens_ is in many ways similar to that of animals. Several plant species with anti-cancer activity have already been discovered using this bioassay. However till date no explicit test of an association between anti-cancer activity of plants and their resistance to crown gall formation has been demonstrated. Demonstration of an association could have exploratory potential when searching for plants with anti-cancer activity. In this paper, we determined whether or not a statistically significant association between crown gall resistance and anti-cancer activity exists in plants found in existing published data sets. Our results indicate that plants with anti-cancer activity have a higher proportion of their species resistant to crown gall formation compared to a random selection of plants. We discuss the implications of our results especially when prospecting for newer sources of anti-cancer activity in plants

Certain subclasses of starlike functions of complex order involving the Hurwitz-Lerch Zeta function

Making use of the Hurwitz-Lerch Zeta function, we define a new subclass of uniformly convex functions and a corresponding subclass of starlike functions with negative coefficients of complex order denoted by TSbμ(α,β,γ)TS^\mu_b(\alpha, \beta, \gamma) and obtain coefficient estimates, extreme points, the radii of close to convexity, starlikeness and convexity and neighbourhood results for the class TSbμ(α,β,γ)TS^\mu_b(\alpha, \beta, \gamma). In particular, we obtain integral means inequalities for the function f(z)f(z) belongs to the class TSbμ(α,β,γ)TS^\mu_b(\alpha, \beta, \gamma) in the unit disc
