Time-dependent magnetotransport of a wave packet in a quantum wire with embedded quantum dots
We consider wave packet propagation in a quantum wire with either an embedded
antidot or an embedded parallel double open quantum dot under the influence of
a uniform magnetic field. The magnetoconductance and the time evolution of an
electron wave packet are calculated based on the Lippmann-Schwinger formalism.
This approach allows us to look at arbitrary embedded potential profiles and
illustrate the results by performing computational simulations for the
conductance and the time evolution of the electron wave packet through the
quantum wire. In the double-dot system we observe a long-lived resonance state
that enhances the spatial spreading of the wave packet, and quantum
skipping-like trajectories are induced when the envelop function of the wave
packet covers several subbands in appropriate magnetic fields.Comment: RevTeX, 9 pages with 8 included postscript figure
Spin-filtering and charge- and spin-switching effects in a quantum wire with periodically attached stubs
Spin-dependent electron transport in a periodically stubbed quantum wire in
the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI) is studied via the
nonequilibrium Green's function method combined with the Landauer-Buttiker
formalism. The coexistence of spin filtering, charge and spin switching are
found in the considered system. The mechanism of these transport properties is
revealed by analyzing the total charge density and spin-polarized density
distributions in the stubbed quantum wire. Furthermore, periodic spin-density
islands with high polarization are also found inside the stubs, owing to the
interaction between the charge density islands and the Rashba SOI-induced
effective magnetic field. The proposed nanostructure may be utilized to devise
an all-electrical multifunctional spintronic device.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Validity of Type D personality in Iceland: association with disease severity and risk markers in cardiac patients
Type D personality has been associated with poor prognosis in cardiac patients. This study investigated the validity of the Type D construct in Iceland and its association with disease severity and health-related risk markers in cardiac patients. A sample of 1,452 cardiac patients completed the Type D scale (DS14), and a subgroup of 161 patients completed measurements for the five-factor model of personality, emotional control, anxiety, depression, stress and lifestyle factors. The Icelandic DS14 had good psychometric properties and its construct validity was confirmed. Prevalence of Type D was 26–29%, and assessment of Type D personality was not confounded by severity of underlying coronary artery disease. Regarding risk markers, Type D patients reported more psychopharmacological medication use and smoking, but frequency of previous mental problems was similar across groups. Type D is a valid personality construct in Iceland, and is associated with health-related risk markers, but not cardiac disease severity
Potencjał dla rozwoju wykorzystania energii geotermalnej w Polsce – miasto Poddębice. Część 1: wybrane aspekty złożowe i eksploatacyjne obecnego i planowanego geotermalnego systemu ciepłowniczego w Poddębicach
The paper presents main reservoir parameters, and selected aspects of stable geothermal water production for the needs of current and future district heating and other uses in Poddębice, Poland. These topics, as a part of pre-feasibility study, were elaborated in the framework of the EEA Project “Geothermal utilization potential in Poland – the town of Poddębice”. That town has both prospective resources and ambitious plans of further geothermal uses’ deployment for space heating and for wide range of other applications. They will contribute to low-emission heating, improvement the leaving conditions and modern local economy. Poddębice create a good study case for other localities in Poland that have geothermal resources. The paper gives in insight into the analyses, outcomes and recommendations that resulted from common works on Icelandic and Polish partners involved in the Project. Energetic aspects are presented in Part 2. of this paper, which is a continuation of the material presented here. Wymienione miasto posiada zarówno perspektywiczne zasoby, jak i znaczące plany rozwoju wykorzystania energii geotermalnej w ciepłownictwie i w szerokim zakresie innych zastosowań.
