Comparative study of patients knowledge on osteoarthritis treatment options to ACR guidelines
Portuguese population is growing older, according to national
data in 2011 the aging index was 129. The number of elderly population
is higher than the younger; average life expectancy is 79,2 years (1).
Because knee Osteoarthritis increases with age, and according to WHO
80% of these subjects will have some degree of impairment and 25% will
not be able to do their daily living activities (2), OA has a big impact on
the sustainability of both health and social care as populations grow
older. Our goal was to compare current guidelines of managing knee OA,
to the degree of information each patient has about their treatment

Time-Delayed transfer functions simulations for LMXBs
Recent works (Steeghs & Casares 2002, Casares et al. 2003, Hynes et al. 2003)
have demonstrated that Bowen flourescence is a very efficient tracer of the
companion star in LMXBs. We present a numerical code to simulate time-delayed
transfer functions in LMXBs, specific to the case of reprocessing in emission
lines. The code is also able to obtain geometrical and binary parameters by
fitting observed (X-ray + optical) light curves using simulated annealing
methods. In this work we present the geometrical model for the companion star
and the analytical model for the disc and show synthetic time-delay transfer
functions for different orbital phases and system parameters.Comment: Contribution presented at the conference "Interacting Binaries:

Gauged WZW models for space-time groups and gravitational actions
In this paper we investigate gauged Wess-Zumino-Witten models for space-time
groups as gravitational theories, following the trend of recent work by
Anabalon, Willison and Zanelli. We discuss the field equations in any dimension
and study in detail the simplest case of two space-time dimensions and gauge
group SO(2,1). For this model we study black hole solutions and we calculate
their mass and entropy which resulted in a null value for both.Comment: 26 pages, no figure
