    Security Challenges and Development of Seaports: Educational Context

    The paper deals with implementation of the function of ensuring economic security by seaports. In the absence of a generally accepted statistical basis for the analysis of seaports, the experience of countries is used as arguments. The logic of the research involved the construction and analysis of a competitive map of the world port market. World trends show a reduction in place states play in decision-making related to the development of ports and the expansion of composition and role of other stakeholders. The main challenges to the development of seaports are identified: focus and consistency of countries’ activities; implementation of international infrastructure projects; dependence on trade flows, development of logistics chains; willingness of countries to make long-term investments; improvement of the quality of port ties with the system of professional and higher education, scientific and analytical organizations

    The biology of Simulium erythrocephalum and S. chelevini (Diptera, Simuliidae): Morpho-logical, ecological and molecular data

    The subgenus Boophthora is a typical Palearctic taxon, which includes only 6 species, among them. Simulium erythrocephalum has a transpalearctic distribution. In Europe, Adler notes only the species S. erythrocephalum, and Yankovsky – two species S. (Boophthora) erythrocephalum and S. (Boophthora) chelevini. According to morphological characteristics, these species differ in their life stages. We have studied the development of S. erythrocephalum and S. chelevini from three rivers of Volyn region, Ukraine (Styr, Chornoguzka, Putylivka) from 2017 to 2019. We used the EPPO PM7 / 129 standard. Collected samples, 615-bp fragments of the COI gene were sequenced from five individuals of S. erythrocephalum and five individuals of S. chelevini and compared with four samples of S. erythrocephalum from the GenBank. We obtained the nucleotide sequence of S. chelevini. All of the S. erythrocephalum samples from Ukraine had 692 bases, the S. erythrocephalum samples from Armenia had 673 bases. S. erythrocephalum and S. chelevini did not have any intraspecific variations. These intraspecific variations were not larger than the interspecific variations. It has been proved that the populations of S. erythrocephalum and S. chelevini from medium and small rivers of Volyn do not differ in biological, behavioural and genetic characteristics. Comparison of S. erythrocephalum and S. chelevini life stages showed clear differences in 20 morphological features, which are probably manifestations of phenotypic variability. Comparison of species with data from the GenBank from Spain and Armenia on the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene confirmed the opinion that S. erythrocephalum and S. chelevini are one species. On the phylogenetic tree, the data are not grouped, there is no clear separation of the clades. Bootstrap values are 95–100%, which may indicate a significant similarity of all studied samples and the lack of isolation of individual morphotypes from Volyn, Spain and Armenia. To finally confirm the taxonomic position of these two species, additional research is needed covering more individuals from different parts of Europe and analysis of more genes

    Influence of suction on prolonged air leak after VATS lobectomies: a prospective randomized study

    Background. Prolonged air leak is the most common postoperative complication following lung resection. Despite the huge number of researches concerning this problem, no consensus exists regarding the choice of the appropriate method of pleural space drainage after thoracoscopic surgery.Objective. To compare suction and water-seal regarding their influence on the incidence of prolonged air leak.Material and Methods. This prospective randomized trial included sixty patients who underwent VATS lobectomies on different diagnoses in the Center for Thoracic Surgery, Clinical Hospital no. 122 (St. Petersburg) from September 2018 until May 2020. The open-label randomized controlled trial involved two groups: control group (water-seal drainage) and suction group. Each group consisted of thirty patients. Ten patients were discharged with a Heimlich valve.Results. The incidence of prolonged air leak was 23%. Patients in the suction group had a higher duration of air leak than those in the control group (5.3 ± 1.3 vs 3.7 ± 0.9 days, р = 0.04). The number of air leak cases was slightly higher in the suction group (8 and 6 patients); however, the difference was not significant (р = 0.57). Both groups had no difference in the number of complications (р = 0.2). There were no cases of reoperation.Discussion. The advantage of water-seal is a lower risk of parenchymal defects. Suction may increase holes in visceral pleura, cause hyperexudation, leading to prolonged duration of drainage. At the same time, the use of suction may decrease residual pleural spaces, match visceral and parietal pleura, which may decrease the duration of air leak. A lot of studies on this issue was performed, however, their results are contradictory.Conclusion. Drainage of pleural space after VATS lobectomies may be safely performed with water-seal. In the case of increasing surgical emphysema or appearance of progressive dyspnea, suction should be applie

    Spatially Resolved Chemistry in Nearby Galaxies I. The Center of IC 342

    We have imaged emission from the millimeter lines of eight molecules--C2H, C34S, N2H+, CH3OH, HNCO, HNC, HC3N, and SO--in the central half kpc of the nearby spiral galaxy IC 342. The 5" (~50 pc) resolution images were made with OVRO. Using these maps we obtain a picture of the chemistry within the nuclear region on the sizescales of individual GMCs. Bright emission is detected from all but SO. There are marked differences in morphology for the different molecules. A principal component analysis is performed to quantify similarities and differences among the images. This analysis reveals that while all molecules are to zeroth order correlated, that is, they are all found in dense molecular clouds, there are three distinct groups of molecules distinguished by the location of their emission within the nuclear region. N2H+, C18O, HNC and HCN are widespread and bright, good overall tracers of dense molecular gas. C2H and C34S, tracers of PDR chemistry, originate exclusively from the central 50-100 pc region, where radiation fields are high. The third group of molecules, CH3OH and HNCO, correlates well with the expected locations of bar-induced orbital shocks. The good correlation of HNCO with the established shock tracer molecule CH3OH is evidence that this molecule, whose chemistry has been uncertain, is indeed produced by processing of grains. HC3N is observed to correlate tightly with 3mm continuum emission, demonstrating that the young starbursts are the sites of the warmest and densest molecular gas. We compare our HNC images with the HCN images of Downes et al. (1992) to produce the first high resolution, extragalactic HCN/HNC map: the HNC/HCN ratio is near unity across the nucleus and the correlation of both of these gas tracers with the star formation is excellent.
