ERGODIC INVARIANT MEASURES ON THE SPACE OF GEODESIC CURRENTS

    Get PDF
Let S be a compact, connected, oriented surface, possibly with boundary, of negative Euler characteristic. In this article we extend Lindenstrauss–Mirzakhani’s and Hamenstädt’s classification of locally finite mapping class group invariant ergodic measures on the space of measured laminations ML(S) to the space of geodesic currents C(S), and we discuss the homogeneous case. Moreover, we extend Lindenstrauss–Mirzakhani’s classification of orbit closures to C(S). Our argument relies on their results and on the decomposition of a current into a sum of three currents with isotopically disjoint supports: a measured lamination without closed leaves, a simple multi-curve and a current that binds its hull

AbstractThe changing age structure of the population could potentially have significant implications for economic development, labor markets and welfare in countries with different levels of development. In this regard, there are questions related to possible labor shortages and skilled workers, productivity and innovation, as well as the provision of adequate social protection and other services for an aging population. The article analyzes the possibility of using mentoring, engaging experience pensioners considering the high level of education and professional qualifications. There is France experience on the labor force forming and efficient using

Velocity Distribution of Topological Defects in Phase-Ordering Systems

The distribution of interface (domain-wall) velocities v{\bf v} in a phase-ordering system is considered. Heuristic scaling arguments based on the disappearance of small domains lead to a power-law tail, Pv(v)vpP_v(v) \sim v^{-p} for large v, in the distribution of vvv \equiv |{\bf v}|. The exponent p is given by p=2+d/(z1)p = 2+d/(z-1), where d is the space dimension and 1/z is the growth exponent, i.e. z=2 for nonconserved (model A) dynamics and z=3 for the conserved case (model B). The nonconserved result is exemplified by an approximate calculation of the full distribution using a gaussian closure scheme. The heuristic arguments are readily generalized to conserved case (model B). The nonconserved result is exemplified by an approximate calculation of the full distribution using a gaussian closure scheme. The heuristic arguments are readily generalized to systems described by a vector order parameter.Comment: 5 pages, Revtex, no figures, minor revisions and updates, to appear in Physical Review E (May 1, 1997

In queste ultime, infatti, A. byssoides, dopo aver prodotto metaboliti secondari tossici per P. viticola, ne invade e degrada micelio, rami sporangiofori e spore gamiche. Tale attivit\ue0 antagonistica, determinando il contenimento sia della diffusione che della sopravvivenza del patogeno, pu\uf2 assumere, quindi, un ruolo rilevante nella definizione di strategie di difesa biologica contro la peronospora della vite

Post-Mortem Immunohistochemical Evidence of β2-Adrenergic Receptor Expression in the Adrenal Gland

    Get PDF
The evidence from post-mortem biochemical studies conducted on cortisol and catecholamines suggest that analysis of the adrenal gland could provide useful information about its role in human pathophysiology and the stress response. Authors designed an immunohistochemical study on the expression of the adrenal β2-adrenergic receptor (β2-AR), a receptor with high-affinity for catecholamines, with the aim to show which zones it is expressed in and how its expression differs in relation to the cause of death. The immunohistochemical study was performed on adrenal glands obtained from 48 forensic autopsies of subjects that died as a result of different pathogenic mechanisms using a mouse monoclonal β2-AR antibody. The results show that immunoreactivity for β2-AR was observed in all adrenal zones. Furthermore, immunoreactivity for β2-AR has shown variation in the localization and intensity of different patterns in relation to the original cause of death. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that demonstrates β2-AR expression in the human cortex and provides suggestions on the possible involvement of β2-AR in human cortex hormonal stimulation. In conclusion, the authors provide a possible explanation for the observed differences in expression in relation to the cause of death

Phase Ordering Dynamics of the O(n) Model - Exact Predictions and Numerical Results

We consider the pair correlation functions of both the order parameter field and its square for phase ordering in the O(n)O(n) model with nonconserved order parameter, in spatial dimension 2d32\le d\le 3 and spin dimension 1nd1\le n\le d. We calculate, in the scaling limit, the exact short-distance singularities of these correlation functions and compare these predictions to numerical simulations. Our results suggest that the scaling hypothesis does not hold for the d=2d=2 O(2)O(2) model. Figures (23) are available on request - email [email protected]: 23 pages, Plain LaTeX, M/C.TH.93/2

During the pre-industrial period the variation of Global Surface Air Temperature on 1 °C change Global Mean Sea Level on 24,79 m (SL 0). For the Global Warming period the rising rate of the Global Mean Sea Level will slowing down in 3,3 times simultaneously increases the Global Surface Air Temperature rate in 3,3 times. In the present time the Global Surface Air Temperature is 0,8 °C higher then pre-industrial level that will lead to the sea-level rise on 6 m. The EU Strategy on adaptation to climate change assume that the global warming must be limited to below 2 °C above pre-industrial level, that within some ages will lead to the sea-level rise on 15 m (15 times grater than for the A1B scenario, with the Sea-level rise up to 1 m). So in the future conditions the EU Strategy on adaptation to climate change do not assume rapid climate changes that will significantly increase the economic losses from Sea Level Rise.

Deliveries by caesarean sections on request of women: legal-medical evidence

Introduction: In Italy the use of caesarean delivery has a rising trend moving away from European standards appeared on Euro-Peristat on maternal and child health, presenting the highest percentage of use of this procedure with significant regional differences. This study have analyzed the most recent data of a Sicilian reality about normal delivery and caesarean sections carried out in a hospital situated in Messina (Italy). Materials and methods: A total number of 1,573 medical records from 1st January 2011 to 31st December 2013 were analyzed and data gathered were statistically examined to describe general and specific parameters of the sample making use of Epi Info 7.1.4 software (CDC Atlanta – USA). Chi-square test was used to show any statistic differences among studied population. Results: Overall data showed that were carried out 38.27% of spontaneous deliveries, 7.06% of induced labor, and 54.67% of caesarean deliveries. There were no significant statistical differences between recourse to caesarean section and vaginal delivery in relation to nationality, age, level of education and/or work. The enrolled group, based on the parameters examined, was divided into appropriate caesarean section, in 79.49% of cases, inappropriate in 7.20% (mother’s request) and unjustified in 13.31% (with no indication, incomplete medical record). An examination of the anesthetic medical records showed that the caesarean section was considered to be urgent in 31.74% of the cases; however in 17.92% of these cases there is no information in the medical records justifying the use of emergency procedures. Conclusion: The reported data from the study that we conducted, lead to medical-legal and juridical considerations, especially as regards the use of caesarean delivery on the woman request. The complexity of the phenomenon requires the development of a variety of intervention strategies, not only for issues related to the reduction of health care costs, but also with regard to the clinical risk management and medical legal aspects related to the several profiles of professional responsibility

Fluctuations and defect-defect correlations in the ordering kinetics of the O(2) model

The theory of phase ordering kinetics for the O(2) model using the gaussian auxiliary field approach is reexamined from two points of view. The effects of fluctuations about the ordering field are included and we organize the theory such that the auxiliary field correlation function is analytic in the short-scaled distance (x) expansion. These two points are connected and we find in the refined theory that the divergence at the origin in the defect-defect correlation function g~(x)\tilde{g}(x) obtained in the original theory is removed. Modifications to the order-parameter autocorrelation exponent λ\lambda are computed.Comment: 29 pages, REVTeX, to be published in Phys. Rev. E. Minor grammatical/syntax changes from the origina
