    Damage profiles of ultrashallow B implants in Si and the Kinchin-Pease relationship

    Damage distributions resulting from 0.1-2 keV B+ implantation at room temperature into Si(100) to doses ranging from 1×1014 to 2×1016 cm-2 have been determined using high-depth-resolution medium-energy-ion scattering in the double alignment mode. For all B+ doses and energies investigated a 3-4 nm deep, near-surface damage peak was observed while for energies at and above 1 keV, a second damage peak developed beyond the mean projected B+ ion range of 5.3 nm. This dual damage peak structure is due to dynamic annealing processes. For the near-surface peak it is observed that, at the lowest implant energies and doses used, for which recombination processes are suppressed due to the proximity of the surface capturing interstitials, the value of the damage production yield for low-mass B+ ions is equal or greater than the modified Kinchin-Pease model predictions [G.     Noble-gas ion bombardment on clean silicon surfaces

    Under UHV conditions clean c-Si(111) surfaces have been bombarded at room temperature by noble gases (He,Ne,Ar,Kr). Using spectroscopic ellipsometry, the implantation processes were continuously recorded. A low-dose behavior (amorphization) and a high-dose behavior (dilution) are observed. After termination of the bombardment, a self-anneal behavior appears and some experiments are discussed in order to explain the observed phenomena. After applying a monotonous temperature increase up to 1100 K, the noble gas desorbs and the surface layer returns to the original state, as can be seen from a closed trajectory in the (δψ,δΔ) plane. The low-dose behavior is analyzed in the scope of a simple ellipsometric first-order approximation, and the results obtained are compared with theory. The dilution arising during the high-dose behavior can be explained ellipsometrically by means of microscopic surface roughness, and some complementary measurements are reported to verify this explanation

    Team Learning: the Missing Construct from a Cross-Cultural Examination of Higher Education?

    Team learning should be an important construct in organizational management research because team learning can enhance organizational learning and overall performance. However, there is limited understanding of how team learning works in different cultural contexts. Using an international comparative research approach, we developed a framework of antecedents and outcomes in the higher education context and tested it with samples from the UK and Vietnam. The results show that a common framework is applicable in the two different contexts, subject to slight modifications. However, this study does not find that team learning (measured via the proxy of “attitude towards team learning”) exhibits any statistically significant relationship as a predictor of the proposed outcomes. Other findings from this study on educational contexts are important not only to scholars in this field, but also for practicing managers, particularly those who study and operate in the extensive global market

    The Public Playground Paradox: "Child’s Joy" or Heterotopia of Fear?

    Literature depicts children of the Global North withdrawing from public space to“acceptable islands”. Driven by fears both of and for children, the publicplayground – one such island – provides clear-cut distinctions between childhoodand adulthood. Extending this argument, this paper takes the original approach oftheoretically framing the playground as a heterotopia of deviance, examining –for the first time – three Greek public playground sites in relation to adjacentpublic space. Drawing on an ethnographic study in Athens, findings show fear tounderpin surveillance, control and playground boundary porosity. Normativeclassification as “children’s space” discourages adult engagement. However, in anovel and significant finding, a paradoxical phenomenon sees the playground’spresence simultaneously legitimizing playful behaviour in adjacent public spacefor children and adults. Extended playground play creates alternate orderings andnegotiates norms and hierarchies, suggesting significant wider potential toreconceptualise playground-urban design for an intergenerational public realm
