    Weak Decays of Heavy-Light Mesons on the Lattice: Semi-Leptonic Formfactors

    We present lattice estimates of the mass of the heavy-light baryons Λb\Lambda_b and Ξb\Xi_b obtained using propagating heavy quarks. Particular attention is paid to uncertainties in the q2q^2 and the heavy quark mass dependence of formfactors.     We present intermediate results on our ongoing investigation concerning semileptonic decays of heavy pseudoscalar mesons into pseudoscalar and vector mesons. The corresponding formfactors are evaluated at several momenta and appropriate combinations of four light and four heavy quarks, which are chosen to allow for an extrapolation into the B Meson region. In order to obtain clear groundstate signals we apply gauge invariant ``Wuppertal'' smearing to the quarks. The analysis is based on 32 quenched gauge configurations of size 243×6424^3 \times 64 at β=6.3\beta=6.3, with Wilson fermions.Comment: 3 pages, uuencoded, contribution to Lat 9

    Beautiful Baryons from Lattice QCD

    We perform a lattice study of heavy baryons, containing one (Λb\Lambda_b) or two bb-quarks (Ξb\Xi_b). Using the quenched approximation we obtain for the mass of Λb\Lambda_b MΛb=5.728±0.144±0.018GeV. M_{\Lambda_b}= 5.728 \pm 0.144 \pm 0.018 {\rm GeV}. The mass splitting between the Λb\Lambda_b and the B-meson is found to increase by about 20\% if the light quark mass is varied from the chiral limit to the strange quark mass.Comment: 11 pages, Figures obtained upon request from [email protected]

    Light Quark Masses with Dynamical Wilson Fermions

    We determine the masses of the light and the strange quarks in the MSˉ\bar{MS}-scheme using our high-statistics lattice simulation of QCD with dynamical Wilson fermions. For the light quark mass we find mMSˉlight(2GeV)=2.7(2)MeVm^{light}_{\bar{MS}}(2 GeV) = 2.7(2) MeV, which is lower than in quenched simulations. For the strange quark, in a sea of two dynamical light quarks, we obtain mMSˉstrange(2GeV)=140(20)MeVm^{strange}_{\bar{MS}}(2 GeV) = 140(20) MeV.Comment: 10 pages (latex file, uses epsf-style

    Phenomenology with Wilson fermions using smeared sources

    We investigate the use of two types of non-local (``smeared'') sources for quark propagators in quenched lattice QCD at β=6.0\beta=6.0 using Wilson fermions at κ=0.154\kappa=0.154 and 0.1550.155. We present results for the hadron mass spectrum, meson decay constants, quark masses, the chiral condensate and the quark distribution amplitude of the pion. The use of smeared sources leads to a considerable improvement over previous results. We find a disturbing discrepancy between the baryon spectra obtained using Wuppertal and wall sources. We find good signals in the ratio of correlators used to calculate the quark mass and the chiral condensate and show that the extrapolation to the chiral limit is smooth.Comment: (revised), 57 pages (29 pages of PostScript in landscape mode, 765924 bytes

    The Leptonic Decay Constants of Qˉq\bar{Q}q Mesons and the Lattice Resolution

    We present a high statistics study of the leptonic decay constant fPf_P of heavy pseudoscalar mesons using propagating heavy Wilson quarks within the quenched approximation, on lattices covering sizes from about 0.7~fm to 2~fm. Varying β\beta between 5.74 and 6.26 we observe a sizeable aa dependence of fPf_P when one uses the quark field normalization that was suggested by Kronfeld and Mackenzie, compared with the weaker dependence observed for the standard relativistic norm. The two schemes come into agreement when one extrapolates to a→0a \rightarrow 0. The extrapolations needed to reach the continuum quantity fBf_B introduce large errors and lead to the value fB=0.18(5)f_B=0.18(5)~GeV in the quenched approximation. This suggests that much more effort will be needed to obtain an accurate lattice prediction for fBf_B.Comment: 11 pages Latex + 5 tables + 8 postscript figures, unix shell archive, DESY preprint DESY 93-17

    Towards the glueball spectrum of full QCD

    We present first results on masses of the scalar and tensor glueballs as well as of the torelon from simulations of QCD with two light flavours of Wilson fermions. The gauge configurations of extent 16^3*32 at beta = 5.6 and kappa = 0.156, 0.157 and 0.1575 have been generated as part of the SESAM collaboration programme. The present lattice resolutions correspond to 1/a = 2.0-2.3 GeV and ratios m(pi)/m(rho) = 0.83, 0.76 and 0.71, respectively.     Scaling Study of the Leptonic Decay Constants of Heavy-Light Mesons: A Consumers Report on Improvement Factors

    A high statistics calculation, performed at β=5.74,  6.00\beta =5.74,\;6.00 and 6.266.26, enables us to study the variation of the leptonic decay constants fPf_P of heavy pseudoscalar mesons with the lattice spacing aa. We observe only a weak aa dependence when the standard 2κ\sqrt{2\kappa} normalization is used for the quark fields, whereas application of the Kronfeld-Mackenzie normalization induces a stronger variation with aa.
